The Next Step OVERVIEW CTC at a Glance Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC (CTC/Company) is Sri Lanka’s only licensed manufacturer of cigarettes and one of the Country’s most valuable corporate entities. Given its position as the largest individual tax contributor to government tax revenue and significant value injector to the rural economy, the Company’s socio-economic impacts are indisputable, and over the last century, CTC has played an important role in supporting the Country’s economic progress. As a subsidiary of British American Tobacco plc (BAT), the Company adopts global best practices, thereby developing Sri Lanka’s talent pool and propagating best-in-class practices in the Sri Lankan corporate and manufacturing sector. We will also examine the feasibility of requiring plain packaging of cigarettes and will also ask the House of Commons Standing Committee on Health to make recommendations in this area. That statute prohibits retirement systems from making any new investments in stocks, securities, or other obligations of any company which derives more than 15% of its revenue from the sale of tobacco products. On December 18, 1997 PERAC sent Memo #48 regarding the implementation of Chapter 119 and the first Tobacco Company List. Enclosed please find a Tobacco Company List dated July 2012. This list replaces any other Tobacco Company List previously sent to your board and is effective upon receipt by the retirement boards. Most of these companies appeared on previous lists and such investments were prohibited from the time the companies first appeared on the list. Please forward a copy to your investment advisors or inform them that this list is available on the PERAC Home Page under the Investment Unit’s 2012 Memo Index.
