While walking, Cake hears what sounds like a boy's scream and stumbles across Flamboet, who is being attacked by Iron Owls. After saving her, Cake asks Flamboet if she knows any princes Fionna's age. Flamboer then tells Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake about a "hot" Prince in the Fire Kingdom. When they get there, Flamboet casts a "Flame Shield" on Cake so it will be safe for her to go in. Cake then checks on Fionna, who's desperately trying not to cry. Cake goes into the castle and introduces himself as the "Baroness of the Grasslands" to the Flame Queen, and then attempts to win over the Flame Princes for "Princess" Fionna. First, she offers a water bottle which he accidentally kills the Flame Jester with. Flame Queen states that she hated her jester. Cake's second attempt is to sing "All Warmed Up Inside" as a serenade. Flame Queen is not impressed with the song and demands that Cake leave. Fionna is now bawling and tells BMO to go away. The Flame Queen demands to know why Fionna isn't here, so Cake stretches her stomach to look like Fionna, who greets the Flame Queen and offers her a koala bear made with Cake's stretchy powers. Though koalas are the Flame Queen's favorite animal, she Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake the gift, saying she no longer likes koala bears. Fake Fionna begins to cry and Cake tries to cheer her up, but she loses control of fake Fionna who begins to attack her and seemingly kill her. This impresses the Flame Queen who states that a princess who is willing to kill her own buffoon is welcome to date her evil, destructive son, much to Cake's horror. Flame Prince walks over to the Fionna-shaped-Cake and embraces her. Some fire elementals and Cake remark that she actually seems normal and Flame Prince responds by shooting fire at them and turning them into flambits. Upon observing this, Cake concludes that she is an evil prince. Cake makes his Fionna say that she does not like him anymore. Flame Prince is enraged, causing mass chaos with his destructive fire powers. Cake attempts to flee to the tree house, but he follows her in his flaming, monstrous form and sets the tree house aflame. Cake tries to warn Fionna, but Fionna does not notice or care because of her depression over Prince Gumball. The fire soon spreads inside the tree fort, destroying Fionna's pictures of Prince Gumball before her eyes. Fionna becomes enraged by this, vowing to kill whoever started the destructive fire. She looks out the window to see Flame Prince's monster form scaling the tree fort. Flame Prince accidentally ignites Prince Gumball's remaining liquid fireworks. This makes Fionna even more furious, and she shouts at his to not touch Prince Gumball's stuff. The rain resulting from the Liquid Pyrotechnics hits Flame Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake, dousing out his flames. He briefly passes out and, using Prince Gumball's lock of hair as a support, Fionna catches Flame Prince in her arms. He wakes up soon after and asks Fionna why she doesn't like him. Fionna immediately replies that she does like him, causing him to blush. As it stops raining outside, Flame Prince slaps Fionna, leaving a pink mark on her face. Gumball who is apparently unharmed arranges a date with Fionna. Cake decides to come along to help Fionna out. The group then flies through the air while Gumball serenades Fionna with the song "Oh, Fionna" and eventually asks her to be his girlfriend. When Fionna and Cake get to the ball, Prince Gumball takes Fionna to his room decorated with candles and rose petals and locks the door. She becomes flustered Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake backs away when he begins to take his shirt off. A drop of water lands on her shoulder, she looks Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake to see the real Prince Gumball trapped inside a giant icicle on the ceiling. The fake prince is revealed to be Ice Queen. Fionna is soon incapacitated; Cake senses trouble and rushes to her rescue. Enraged by the deception, Fionna takes out the crystal sword to fight. Cake hears noises from downstairs and senses Fionna is in trouble. Undaunted, Fionna uses the ice Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake beat Ice Queen over the head. Ice Queen pushes her off with a burst of snow which allows Fionna to get close to enough to break Prince Gumball free and knock out the Ice Queen with a broken icicle. Cake bursts in and sees Gumball standing next to Fionna in her torn dress; she jumps to the wrong conclusion and lunges at him but Fionna stops Cake and tells her it was the Ice Queen all along. Just then Ice Queen recovers and blasts Cake away from Fionna only to have Fionna knock her magic tiara off which negates her powers. The real Gumball asks Fionna on a date and is turned down; Fionna notes that she does not need a boyfriend at the moment. The episode reveals that the Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake story was a fanfiction created by the Ice King that he is reading to Finn and Jake who are incapacitated in ice. The Ice King asks how they enjoyed his story; Finn hesitates at first but hurriedly placates him when Ice King threatens them with his ice powers. Allegri even re-rerecorded the show's theme—which had originally been sung by series creator Pendleton Ward —for the episode.
