It was intended to be a quick cram course to read while waiting on line at ARRI’s NAB 2014 Booth to try out the new AMIRA and make it seem like I knew which end of the camera to look through. These are not official ARRI instructions. Information came from prototypes, working models, and long-distance dialogs with the designers who generously contributed to this pre-flight checkout. Three AMIRA sisters made their debut: Plain AMIRA, AMIRA Advanced, and AMIRA Premium. Same body, different licenses. Please note that AMIRA will now have the ability to record all ProRes codecs in Ultra High Definition (UHD) 3840 x 2160 directly onto the in-camera CFast 2.0 cards, at up to 60 fps. UHD will be available for purchase at the online ARRI License Shop through an affordable software upgrade (and a sensor calibration for existing AMIRAs). • Designing a Cinema Auditorium
ROLV GJESTLAND HOW TO DESIGN A CINEMA AUDITORIUM Practical guidelines for architects, cinema owners and others involved in planning and building cinemas HOW TO USE THIS BOOK This book can be read from beginning to end, to learn more about the elements that need to be taken into consideration when designing a cinema auditorium. But it may also be used as a reference in the design process, as the different parts of the auditorium are planned. Just be aware that making a change in one element might affect others. Designing a cinema auditorium is quite easy if you follow the rules. Although, if everyone follows all the rules, all auditoriums would look the same. Go beyond the rules, but always keep in mind that the main purpose of a cinema auditorium is to give the audience the best film experience. In addition, there are many other rooms in a cinema complex where you can use your creativity to create great experiences for patrons and make them want to come back. FEEDBACK This is the first edition of the book, and I am sure someone will miss something, someone will disagree with something and something will be incomplete or difficult to understand. Please do not hesitate to share your opinions, so the next edition can be better and the next one after that… Please use the contact info below. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Rolv Gjestland has a master's degree in metallurgy from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. He is now advisor in cinema concepts, design, logistics and technology for Film&Kino, the nonprofit trade organisation for Norwegian cinemas.

While 2K resolution is widely accepted for digital post production, there are situations when even a higher re- solution is required, such as for digital effects. As the cost of storage continues to fall and ultra-high resolu- tion display devices are introduced, 4K postproduction workflows are becoming viable and affordable. The combination of the Spirit 4K high-performance film scanner and Bones system is ahead of its time, offe- ring you the choice of 2K scanning in real time (up to 30 frames per second) and 4K scanning at up to 7.5 fps depending on the selected packing format and the receiving system’s capability. • Independence Day: Resurgence
INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE (2016) ● Rated PG 13 for sequences of sci fi action and destruction, and for some language ● $165,000,000 budget ● 2 hrs ● Directed by Roland Emmerich ● Produced by Lynn Harris, Matti Leshem, Douglas C. Merrifield ● The film was produced by Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures QUICK THOUGHTS ● Phil Svitek ● Marisa Serafini ● Demetri Panos ● Sara Stretton DEVELOPMENT ● The possibility of a sequel to Independence Day had long been discussed, and the film's producer and writer, Dean Devlin, once stated that the world's reaction to the September 11 attacks influenced him to strongly consider making a sequel to the film ● Soon after the success of the first film, 20th Century Fox paid Dean Devlin a large sum of money to write a script for a sequel. However, after completing the script, Devlin didn't turn in the script and instead gave the money back to the studio, as he felt the story didn't live up to the first film. It was only approximately 15 years later, that Devlin met up with Roland Emmerich to try again, having felt that they had "cracked" a story for a sequel ● Devlin began writing an outline for a script with Emmerich, but in May 2004, Emmerich said he and Devlin had attempted to "figure out a way how to continue the story", but that this ultimately did not work, and the pair abandoned the idea ● In October 2009, Emmerich said he once again had plans for a sequel, and had since considered the idea of making two sequels to form a trilogy ● On June 24, 2011, Devlin confirmed that he and Emmerich had found an idea for the sequels and had written a treatment for it ● In October 2011, however, discussions for Will Smith returning were halted, due to Fox's refusal to provide the $50 million salary demanded by Smith for the two sequels ● Emmerich, however, made assurances that the films would be shot backtoback, regardless of Smith's involvement ○ Resurgence filmmakers were reported to be preparing versions of the film both with and without Will Smith.
