Olympia Fields C.C. is home to several premier events including the 2015 U.S. Amateur. The club has hosted two U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, five Western Opens and a U.S. Senior Open among other high-level tournaments. The 2014 OFCC/Fighting Illini Invite welcomed a field of a very strong field, including co-No. 1s Alabama and Oklahoma State, No. 4 Texas, No. 7 Stanford, No. 11 Oklahoma, No. 17 Florida State, No. 19 Texas A&M, No. 21 Arkansas and No. 23 Virginia Tech. Also in the tournament are Baylor and Colorado, both of which received votes in the GCAA preseason poll, Connecticut, Indiana and Michigan. No. 6-ranked Illinois ran away with an 11-stroke victory over the loaded field last season, and freshman Dylan Meyer shared medalist honors in his first collegiate event, firing a 1-over-par 71 to finish the tournament +3 overall, tied with Stanford’s Maverick McNealy. It marks the second time that the Orange and Blue have won the OFCC/ Illini Invitational, also taking the title in 2008, and only the second time an Illini has won medalist honors, as assistant coach Zach Barlow earned the title in 2008. Illinois head coach Mike Small was invited to be an honorary member of the Olympia Fields Country Club in 2007, becoming the first to receive such a membership since 2003, when was honored with the invitation. “The tournament is run as a first-class event by the members here,” Small said. “It means a lot to the University of Illinois to be associated with Olympia Fields, and I know it means a lot to Olympia Fields to put on such a great event.
