RON RIGGLE, JR. Head Baseball Coach Ron Riggle is currently in his 26th season coaching the LLCC Loggers, with this being his 14th season as head coach. In addition to his coaching duties, Ron has served as the college’s athletic director since 1997. In this role, he takes a keen interest in the success of each athletic program at the college, working diligently to attract and retain gifted, hard-working student athletes to LLCC. While coaching at Lincoln Land, Coach Riggle has been a driving force in the continued success of the program, including the NJCAA Championship teams in 1994 and 2000 and the 1993, 1995, 2014 and 2015 NJCAA national tournament teams. During Riggle’s LLCC coaching career, the Loggers have won more than 700 games. Coach Riggle’s expertise and enthusiasm are built on the foundation of his own successes as a student athlete in both high school and college. The former Springfield high school All-City pitcher still holds a number of city records including a perfect 0.00 ERA record for All-City performances. Riggle won a record 13 games as a senior at Springfield High School. He won 14 games as a starter for the Loggers during the 1987- 1988 seasons at LLCC. After Lincoln Land, Riggle went on to pitch for Coastal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach, S.C. He pitched on the team that won back-to- back Big South Conference championships in 1989 and 1990. Ron and his wife, Angie, currently reside in Springfield and are the proud parents of Seth (21), Noah (19), Connor (18) and Becca (9). JUSTIN KNOEDLER Assistant Baseball Coach Justin Knoedler is entering his sixth year as a coach for the Loggers. He has been affiliated with the baseball program for the past 17 years in multiple capacities. Knoedler is a local native and a graduate of Springfield High School. He attended Lincoln Land from 1999-2000 along with his twin brother Jason. They helped lead the Loggers to their second national championship in 2000 and Justin was named the NJCAA Player of the Year. After LLCC, he attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, for one year and was then drafted in the fifth round of the MLB draft by the San Francisco Giants. Knoedler caught 10 seasons in professional baseball for six different MLB organizations, including the A’s, Cardinals, Marlins, White Sox and Dodgers. He made his Major League debut in September of 2004 with the Giants. Knoedler currently holds the LLCC career home run record of 34 and was inducted into the LLCC Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. Coach Knoedler brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program. He began his coaching with the Loggers in his off seasons, as he prepared for his own playing season. Knoedler primarily works every day with the hitters and catchers and also plays a vital role in the development of the in-season and off-season strength and conditioning programs. He is currently the LLCC Fitness Center Coordinator and a private instructor at Body Symmetry. Knoedler resides in Springfield with his wife, Ann, and two dogs Kramer and Cooper. www.lincolnlandloggers.com 3 DANNY MCGEE Assistant Baseball Coach Danny McGee is in his 14th season as a coach for the Loggers. Repeal of Baseball's Longstanding Antitrust Exemption: Did Congress Strike out Again? INTRODUCrION "Baseball is everybody's business."' We have just witnessed the conclusion of perhaps the greatest baseball season in the history of the game. Not one, but two men broke the "unbreakable" record of sixty-one home-runs set by New York Yankee great Roger Maris in 1961;2 four men hit over fifty home-runs, a number that had only been surpassed fifteen times in the past fifty-six years,3 while thirty-three players hit over thirty home runs;4 Barry Bonds became the only player to record 400 home-runs and 400 stolen bases in a career;5 and Alex Rodriguez, a twenty-three-year-old shortstop, joined Bonds and Jose Canseco as one of only three men to have recorded forty home-runs and forty stolen bases in a 6 single season. This was not only an offensive explosion either. A twenty- year-old struck out twenty batters in a game, the record for a nine inning 7 game; a perfect game was pitched;' and Roger Clemens of the Toronto Blue Jays won his unprecedented fifth Cy Young award.9 Also, the Yankees won 1. Flood v. Kuhn, 309 F. Supp. 793, 797 (S.D.N.Y. 1970). 2. Mark McGwire hit 70 home runs and Sammy Sosa hit 66. Frederick C. Klein, There Was More to the Baseball Season Than McGwire, WALL ST.
