Following the announcement of the Autonomous Aerial Taxi initiative in 2017, RTA announced last month the initial test run of the self-driving pods in collaboration with the American Next Future Transportation Inc., that was demonstrated for the first time worldwide. The Self-driving Pods were designed to travel short and medium distances over dedicated lanes. They can be coupled in 15 to 20 seconds or detached, depending on the destination of riders, in 5 seconds. The Self-driving Pods are fitted with cameras and electromechanical technologies to carry out the H.E. Mattar Al Tayer coupling and detaching processes, and this feature can be activated in-motion. Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors RTA has also unveiled the initial design of the Hyperloop, which is exhibited for the first time in the world in conjunction with Virgin Hyperloop One Inc.
