Ford Presidential Library White House Communications Agency (WHCA): Videotapes of Public Affairs, News, and Other Television Broadcasts, 1973-77 WHCA selectively created, or acquired, videorecordings of news and public affairs broadcasts from the national networks CBS, NBC, and ABC; the public broadcast station WETA in Washington, DC; and various local station affiliates. Program examples include: news special reports, national presidential addresses and press conferences, local presidential events, guest interviews of administration officials, appearances of Ford family members, and the 1976 Republican Convention and Ford-Carter debates. In addition, WHCA created weekly compilation tapes of selected stories from network evening news programs. Click here for more details about the contents of the "Weekly News Summary" tapes All WHCA videorecordings are listed in the table below according to approximate original broadcast date. The last entries, however, are for compilation tapes of selected television appearances by Mrs. Ford, 1974-76. The tables are based on WHCA’s daily logs. “Tape Length” refers to the total recording time available, not actual broadcast duration.     Destination of the Month: Tangier, Morocco A mere eight miles across the Strait of Gibraltar from Spain, Richard Allemanfinds an exotic new world in a legendary North African city that has everything from cool cafés and new boutique hotels to glorious beaches, a fascinating history, and the world’s most famous kasbah. The Best Beaches Boasting a stellar location on the Strait of Gibraltar, with the Mediterranean to the east and the Atlantic to the west, Tangier is one of the world’s great beach towns. The city itself sits on a sweeping expanse of sand that’s edged with beach clubs, cafés, and discos. The town beach, favored by local youths for swimming and soccer, and with its crowds and sometimes polluted water, is not recommended for tourists, but there are glorious alternatives. This season, the plage du jour isPlage de Sidi Kacem, about 20 kilometers west of town, beyond the Cap Spartel lighthouse and the Mirage resort. Here, in a garden by the sea, local restaurateurs Rémi Tulloue and Philippe Morin have created the chic French bistrot L’Océan ( 05.3933.8137), an idyllic spot for a long leisurely lunch. For the serious surf set, on the same beach Philippe and Rémi have recently opened Club de Plage,with chaise longues and thatched umbrellas right on the sand. For the ultimate beach experience, however, drive down to Asilah, an enchanting little coastal town about an hour south of Tangier, where a few kilometers away, a rough, sandy road leads to Paradise Beach—a cliff-backed beauty, reminiscent of the Greek islands, with shack cafés that rent umbrellas and chaises and serve fresh grilled fish and simple tagines (stews) made with chicken and bright local veggies.

The organization’s mission is to present an unequaled array of programs of lasting value to Iowans regardless of where they live or what they can afford. Iowa PBS changed its name from Iowa Public Television (IPTV) in 2020. Iowa Public Television began in 1967 when the State Educational Radio and Television Facility Board was created and charged with developing a State network to broadcast educational programs. The Board was composed of nine members selected in the following manner: three members appointed by the State Board of Regents, three members appointed by the State Board of Education, and three members appointed by the Governor, with at least one member from a private four-year college or university. The Board’s name was changed in 1983 to the Iowa Public Broadcasting Board. The membership now includes: • Four citizen representatives appointed by the Governor, including representation from the business community, the television industry, and the Friends of Iowa PBS/Iowa PBS Foundation (see below). • Five members representing the private colleges and universities, the community colleges, the area education agencies, the Board of Regents, and the Board of Education. In 1982, the IPTV Foundation Board was established to solicit and manage gifts of money and property and to make grants and gifts to Iowa PBS. Also established around this time was Friends of IPTV, an organization established to solicit smaller donations from the general public to benefit Iowa PBS.
