Broward County Public Schools & Broward County Athletic Association Present The rd 33Annual Scholar-Athlete Banquets 2019-2020 Established 1915 BROWARD County Public Schools A Message from the Superintendent Although our physical campuses are closed due to COVID-19, learning never stops, nor does our desire to recognize and celebrate members of the Class of 2020. While the world focuses on the best way to attack the coronavirus pandemic, we’ve had to reinvent our public education system to respond to the challenges created by the society-wide disruptions and social distancing restrictions. With our dedicated personnel, coaches, principals, teachers, staff, sponsors, and some community members, we are proud to come together to recognize our student-athletes as we navigate this unprecedented crisis. On behalf of Broward County Public Schools, I’d like to virtually welcome you to tonight’s 33rd Annual Scholar-Athlete banquet. A scholar-athlete not only values their academic and athletic success, but also the success of his or her community. Tonight, we celebrate the achievements of all of our scholar-athletes and recognize that many of them were affected by this unfortunate pandemic. We acknowledge that many of their seasons were cut short or altogether halted, and we commend their patience and ongoing optimism as we maintain our nation’s social distancing requirement. We also want to recognize and thank our valued sponsors for their continued support of high school athletics as they continue to tread the unfamiliar waters with our Broward County Public Schools and the Broward County Athletic Association. Through the education received at Broward County Public Schools, all students graduating from high school are prepared to succeed in life and the business world. Participation in athletics further prepares students by teaching them important lifelong skills including self-esteem, self-discipline, motivation, leadership, character development, and sportsmanship. Every year, millions of dollars in athletic scholarships are awarded to our student athletes. This proves that participating in athletics is an educational investment. The Scholar-Athlete Program is made possible because of the generous support of public and private sponsors throughout Broward County. Over $60,000 in scholarship awards will be presented this evening to select scholar-athletes. Our scholarship sponsors include Barwis Methods, Kreul Classic, BSN Sports, Memorial Healthcare System [U18] Sports Medicine, Miami Dolphins Foundation, Dr. Al DeSimone’s Charity for Champions, Chris Hixon Athletic Scholars Fund, M-F Athletics, Broward County Basketball Officials Association, Gold Coast Junior Golf Foundation, and Junior Golf Association of Broward County. Once again, I want to thank all of our valued sponsors who assisted in making our Scholar-Athlete Programs possible, especially during these unprecedented times. Our scholar-athletes have the potential to be the leaders of tomorrow and their dreams will be reached because of your unending support. Congratulations Class of 2020! You earned this and deserve to be celebrated this evening. Enjoy. Sincerely, Robert W.
