Further, apoptotic osteocytes accumulate in old mice and humans. We have previously shown that mice lacking osteocytic connexin (Cx) 43 (Cx43ΔOt) exhibit a phenotype similar to that of the aging skeleton, With elevated osteocyte apoptosis and an associated increase in osteoclastogenesis. These finDings suggest that osteocyte apoptosis results in the release of Factors that recruit osteoclasts to bone surFaces close to areas that contain apoptotic osteocytes. However, the speciFic chemotactic signals, the events meDiating their release, and the mechanisms of their action remain unknown. Consistent with this notion, We also founD that HMGB1 releaseD by Cx43-deficient (Cx43def) MLO-Y4 osteocytic cells enhances osteoclastogenesis in part by increasing osteocytic RANKL, which promotes osteoclastogenesis, and, at the same time, directly stimulating osteoclastogenesis. Further, expression of the pro-survival microRNA (miR), miR21, is loW in Cx43def cells and bones From old Female mice, and low miR21 levels increase osteocyte apoptosis. However, surprisingly, mice lacking miR21 (miR21ΔOt) have decreased osteoclast number and activity even under conditions of elevated osteocyte apoptosis; suggesting that osteocytic miR21 may meDiate osteoclast precursor recruitment/survival inDuceD by apoptotic osteocytes. However, Whether HMGB1/miR21 are released by osteocytes, anD if the HMGB1 receptors, receptor for aDvanceD glycation enD proDucts (RAGE) and/or toll- like receptor (TLR4) are involved in osteoclast recruitment in Cx43ΔOt and old mice is unknown. The overall objectives of this series of studies were to eluciDate the mechanisms vi underlying osteocyte apoptosis in Cx43-deficiency and aging and identiFy the signaling molecules that link osteocyte apoptosis and osteoclast recruitment. We hypothesize that enhanced extracellular release of the signaling factors HMGB1 anD miR21 recruits osteoclasts to areas containing apoptotic osteocytes and promotes osteoclast activity, leaDing to targeteD bone resorption. Overall, these stuDies Will proviDe insights into the mechanisms governing osteocyte apoptosis anD the associateD targeteD osteoclast resorption, alloWing for the Development of novel therapeutics for preserving the structure and strength of the aging skeleton. This article provides an overview of methods for dening and analyzing the aging of the body. This is a review article of a novel hardware and software complex for health monitoring developed by a scientic group, which analyzes human bio parameters using articial intelligence algorithms. The relevance of the proposed system is undeniable due to the used algorithms of articial intelligence, with the help of which it is possible to quickly and accurately analyze a large amount of data related to human aging. The article will be of interest to developers of articial intelligence, biostatisticians and scientists working on the denition of aging in the human body.     Athens Journal of Health - Volume 2, Issue 3 – Pages 191-206 The Folk-Healing Recipes of the Thasian Monk Gymnasios Lavriotis By Steven M. Oberhelman In the spring of 1930, a healing monk on the Greek island of Thasos became the center of international attention. The monk, named Gymnasios Lavriotis, had been trained from childhood as an herbalist and practical folk healer. While serving as a priest in the mountain village of Theologos, Gymnasios offered healing recipes to hundreds of sick people who had travelled from other island villages and even the Greek mainland. His medical recipes (293 in number) have survived through accounts in newspapers of Kavala, Thessaloniki, Epirus, and Athens. Since no study of this fascinating healer exists other than several brief Greek entries, this article serves as an introduction to the life and career of this monk, as well as his healing recipes, materia medica, and therapeutic practices. In the spring of 1930, all of Greece was, as a newspaper reporter phrased it, "shaken like an earthquake" by reports of miraculous healings performed by a monk on the island of Thasos, about 125 miles northeast of Thessaloniki. Writers for newspapers throughout Greece flocked to the mountaintop village of Theologos to see for themselves the activities of this monk, named Gimansios Lavriotis. Some reports branded him a charlatan or quack, while others praised him as a miracle worker and an herbalist of the highest order. But who and what was he? In what follows I offer a brief introduction to his life, a discussion of his materia medica, a review of his medical recipes and recorded therapies, and then conclude with an assessment of his place in traditional Greek medicine.

Despite promising advances on the study of miRNomes of these diseases, no validated molecular diagnostic biomarker yet exists. Since FM and ME/CFS patient treatments commonly include polypharmacy, it is of concern that biomarker miRNAs are masked by drug interactions. Aiming at discriminating between drug-effects and true disease-associated differential miRNA expression, we evaluated the potential impact of commonly prescribed drugs on disease miRNomes, as reported by the literature. By using the web search tools SM2miR, Pharmaco-miR, and repoDB, we found a list of commonly prescribed drugs that impact FM and ME/CFS miRNomes and therefore could be interfering in the process of biomarker discovery.
