At a special event attended by 300 people, the community formally took possession of the Centre, built at a cost of $15 million. Borough Mayor Michael Applebaum welcomed Gérald Tremblay, Mayor of Montréal, along with Raymond Bachand, Québec Minister of Finance, Minister of Revenue and Minister Responsible for the Montréal Region, and Kathleen Weil, Québec Minister of Immigration and Cultural Communities and MNA for Notre-Dame-de-Grâce.
