Brian became a NABI member about 3 months ago. NABI is his first experience at tournament bowling, and he would like to thank Jack Cornelson for his coaching. Brian is now among that elite number who have won an entry into the Tournament of Champions at the NABI 2009 Naitonals. Congratulations, Brian! Second, it helps if you keep your back foot touching the floor (heel “collapsed” outward and downward) so that the back foot sort of rides on the outer edge of the sole of your shoe. By the way, don’t let that back foot swing past 7 o’clock be- hind you as you finish your approach (left handers, not past 5 o’clock). That will keep your back leg from forcing your body to turn out of position during the release. Many a gutter ball can be eliminated by this procedure. Third, keep all your weight over the middle (arch) of the front foot! That will improve your overall balance enough so that con- sistency (and scores) should definitely improve! Killing The Chicken “The Lever, the Stump and the Fan” was the title of another past article. There we covered a technique for eliminating the all too common destructive habit of chicken winging. Part of this technique involves a kind of gimmicky way of keeping the arm straight longer through the release, by imagining a bowler with no forearm. Oh and remember: the word “adjustment” means more than Well with no forearm, the hand would now be attached to just changing your line. Headline – NLAC Board Votes to Pay YOUR Lineage in the 2009 Association Championships

We understand that these times are tough financially for many of our members. With this in mind, entry fees remain the SAME as 2008 ($75 per person, for adult entries & $45 per person, for youth entries). In addition, the NLAC Board recently voted to match the same amount of lineage fees for each entry ($30 per entry) BACK INTO THE PRIZE/SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS! What does this mean to you? Larger & MORE prize checks & scholarship awards back to YOU, the NLAC members!

Entry forms for the 2009 North Los Angeles County Association Tournament are now available for the Open, Women’s & Youth divisions (Youth bowlers should contact your program directors regarding entering the tournament) at ALL NLAC Centers and on the association website, NLACBOWLING.COM. Entry deadline is Feb. 10th.

This year’s tournament will be held at Santa Clarita Lanes (Team Event) and AMF Rocket Lanes (Singles/Doubles) on the weekends of Feb 21-22, Feb 28/Mar 1, Mar 7-8, & Mar 14-15. NLAC Board Members will be visiting all the leagues during the next three weeks to pass out entry forms, answer any questions regarding the tournament, and collect completed entry forms. Squads will fill up quickly, so get your entry in early!

The tournament format has also undergone a change to meet the feedback we have received over the past couple of years. Each of the divisions (Open, Women, Youth) are now broken into scratch & handicap divisions, based on average ranges. The handicap ratio for the handicap divisions is based on the top average in each division to create as level a playing field, as possible. There will still be separate Open, Women & Youth squads, but we will also offer a couple of combined squads where youth & adults would be bowling at the same time. This would give families the opportunity to bowl the tournament at the same time and avoid scheduling multiple trips to each center.

Optional sidepots, brackets (scr & hcp), senior singles & clean 30 pots will be collected during each squad for the adult participants. We will also have an optional opportunity for you to qualify for the California State BVL Tournament. Sign up during tournament check-in by donating $5 to our BVL Fund & use the scores from that particular event to qualify for the State BVL tournament. You have three opportunities to support this great cause & possibly qualify to represent us at the State level.
