MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE REGULAR SESSION 2005 By: Representatives Young, Bailey, To: Rules Broomfield, Burnett, Fleming, Weathersby HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 71 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE MEMBERS OF PHI THETA 2 KAPPA'S ALL-MISSISSIPPI ACADEMIC TEAM ON THE OCCASION OF 3 "MISSISSIPPI PHI THETA KAPPA DAY." 4 WHEREAS, on March 23, 2005, members of Phi Theta Kappa, an 5 esteemed honor society for community and junior colleges, which 6 has its international headquarters in Jackson, Mississippi, will 7 celebrate "Mississippi Phi Theta Kappa Day"; and 8 WHEREAS, special commendations are extended to the 9 outstanding scholars who comprise Phi Theta Kappa's 10 All-Mississippi Academic Team, a team of highly successful 11 community and junior college students assembled by the Mississippi 12 State Board for Community and Junior Colleges to participate in 13 the Phi Theta Kappa's All-Mississippi Academic Team competition; 14 and 15 WHEREAS, the following students have been recognized as 16 members of the 2004 All-Mississippi Academic Team: Jessica Dumas, 17 Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale; Brian Holden, Coahoma 18 Community College in Clarksdale; Amber Heffner, Copiah-Lincoln 19 Community College in Natchez; Teri Troxler, Copiah-Lincoln 20 Community College in Natchez; Todd Sullivan, Copiah-Lincoln 21 Community College in Wesson; Karen Wallace Freeman, Copiah-Lincoln 22 Community College in Wesson; Faith Hessenius, East Central 23 Community College in Decatur; Ashley Nicholson, East Central 24 Community College in Decatur; Betty Denney, East Mississippi 25 Community College in Scooba; Anna Hailey, East Mississippi 26 Community College in Scooba; Sunni Meadows, East Mississippi 27 Community College in Mayhew; Whitney Westbrook, East Mississippi H. No. 71 *HR40/R1965* 05/HR40/R1965 PAGE 2 (DJ\BD) 60 Parks, Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia; 61 Wendee Keller, Pearl River Community College in Hattiesburg; 62 Amber Ladner, Pearl River Community College in Hattiesburg; Traci 63 Comesana, Pearl River Community College in Poplarville; Melissa 64 Tillery, Pearl River Community College in Poplarville; Valerie 65 Hart, Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit; Heidi 66 Hart, Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit; and 67 WHEREAS, as members of Phi Theta Kappa's All-Mississippi 68 Academic Team, these students have demonstrated impressive 69 intellect, outstanding leadership and a determination to achieve 70 academic excellence; and 71 WHEREAS, the praiseworthy and devoted efforts of the members 72 of Phi Theta Kappa's All-Mississippi Academic Team have earned for 73 themselves and their academic institutions the respect and 74 admiration of this Legislature; and 75 WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize 76 and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young 77 people of our state, who are its future: 78 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 79 REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING 80 THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the members of 81 Phi Theta Kappa's All-Mississippi Academic Team on the occasion of 82 "Mississippi Phi Theta Kappa Day" and extend our heartiest wishes 83 for success in all their future endeavors. 84 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be 85 furnished to the State Board for Community and Junior Colleges to 86 be forwarded to each chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at each 87 institution named herein and to the members of the Capitol Press 88 Corps.
