For the kids at Paradise, a summer camp is organized for children. We received an overwhelming response from the parents. There were camps for swimming, sports, Art and Craft, Music (Instrumental), Music (vocal), Elocution, Theatre and Culinary arts.

DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL NACHARAM/ MAHENDRA HILLS/NADERGUL Secunderabad REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL 2018 CLASS I & II ACADEMICS: As planned for the month EVENTS:

ACADEMIC PROFICIENCY AWARDS: 134 students from Class-I and 135 from Class-II were awarded the “Academic Proficiency”certificates.All Rounder badges were also given to selected students. The Chief Guests for the occasion were Mr.Subrat Kumar Sahoo a senior Scientist in DRDO and Dr.C.B.Tripuraa senior scientist in Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology. Both the Chief Guests are our parents.

Selection of Student Council Members was done in 3 stages. At the outset notification was sent to all the students of Class-2 to come prepared to speak on topics that were given to them 7 days earlier. The second stage consisted of a Quiz round and the final stage was a panel interview. Students were shortlisted after every stage. The process was totally transparent and marks of every stage have been filed. In all 22 students have been selected for the various posts.

TRINITY(Graded Exam in Spoken English)-GESE A total of 62 students, from Class I & II appeared for the exam and all of them achieved DISTINCTION status.

SUMMER SPLASH: To beat the summer heat, a special activity was organized near the swimming pool. Students danced to foot tapping music and later splashed in the water.

It was Excitement Galore!!

To keep healthy and cool during summer, children were asked to get ingredients for fruit salad which they enjoyed preparing under the supervision of their class teacher. They were also shown

9 videos regarding the importance of eating fruits and vegetables. Children enjoyed making and sharing lemonade in the classroom with their friends and teachers. It was astonishing to watch these 5 and 6 year old children being able to make their own drink!

CCE ACTIVITIES:Activities to Enhance Academic Learning EVS Activity: Germination of Seed:

Students were taught to show the different stages of a plant, from a seed to a flower using clay by the respective class teachers.

It was a fun filled learning activity.

Math Activity: What’s In My Bucket?

Children made paper buckets and wrote down a list of items with their price that they would like to buy from a Super Market. They then added to find out the total amount of money that would be needed.

Language Activity:

In English students made colourful circles on which they wrote words with a particular vowel. Afterwards the circles were joined to look like a caterpillar which they pasted in their note books.

In Hindi and Telugu children wrote the alphabets and ‘Barakhadi’ on colourful cut outs of fruit designs, which they later pasted in their note books.

WORKSHOP:

1. Various generic and subject related workshops were conducted in the month of Aprilby both external resource members as well as in house teachers. 2. Two teachers who were sent to VIHE conducted a workshop to speak about their learning. 3. Microteaching was taken up by staff members of the Department. 4. A special feature of Class I & II is the yoga session that is done after assembly on every Saturday and other closed days for students.

Class: (III-V) Curricular and Co-curricular report for the month of April 2018 Level :Primary (III-V) Events Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R Time) – The Reading Programme A very unique Reading Programme exclusive to DPS, Nacharam was held for classes III, IV and V. All the staff and students went through a reading material at the designated hour and answered the questions for understanding that followed.

Academic Proficiency Awards Students of classes III-V were awarded academic proficiency certificates for their excellent performance for the academic year 2017-18.

Scholar Badge Ceremony

54 students were the proud recipients of the Blue Scholar Badge signifying consistent academic excellence for the past three ‘Summer is Fun’-Music, Art andconsecutive Dance years.Special

Summer special activities were planned and conducted for all the students to bring in the cheer of the summer season. Creative art activities like Watermelon Pouch, Ice Cream Cones, Umbrella etc. were held. Students enjoyed making these colourful and creative pieces of art work. For the first time in DPS, a Flash Mob Dance Show was conducted in the class rooms which had the students’ foot tapping to the summer music.

Student Council Elections Student Council Elections were held in III to V level to elect the new student leaders for the year 2018-19. The totally transparent and structured process consisted of filing the nominations through a nomination form, manifesto and speeches, on the spot essay writing, and finally the panel discussion round. The House Captains were chosen through a Ballot Box Elections, wherein the House children cast their vote to elect their House Captains. The day of declaration of results was filled with excitement and thrill when the newly elected members were announced by the Principal. The newly elected Student Council members will be formally inducted in the Investiture Ceremony to be held in June.

Workshops & Seminars Subject specific workshop were conducted for teachers as part of the DPS Training and Resource Centre.

Any Other The new academic year 2018-19 closed for the summer break on 13th April. Very creatively drafted thematic summer holiday home work was designed for the students to continue their academic pursuits in the holidays.

Trinity-GESE Exam It was proud moment for all of us when 136 students of classes III to V received their Trinity – GESE Exam certifications. 130 students were awarded Distinction Certificates, whereas the other 6 got the Merit Certificate.

Pre-Primary: With the approaching summer, the Pre Primary is already on vacation. The summer camp organized for the Pre Primary was well attended with a lot of activities for the little ones. Below are some insights into some of the activities. Summer Camp Swimming – The tiny tots loved swimming/splashing in the cool swimming pool

PP Summer Camp Show Case for the parents was on 12th April, where not only did the students talk of what they had learnt during the summer camp but also showcased dances and songs.

Primary: Academics The school worked till 13.4.18. Since it was a half day school, special home work of basic concepts of different subjects, reading and writing was given as extended learning at home. Thematic Holiday home work for each class was planned and posted to the students. On 7.4.18, students who had performed well in the last academic year, were felicitated on the Academic Proficiency Awards Ceremony day. Girl child all-rounder, meritorious awards, all-rounder students and 100 % attendance awards were given to deserving students. Co-Curricular: Selection of new prefect council took place. All interested students had to register online for the post and write a paragraph as to why they wanted the post. This was followed by extempore for which the students had to pick up slips with the topics written on them and speak on it. They were given about an hour to prepare. The students then had to face an interview panel. The selected students had to appear for a debate on the topic, “Tabs or Text Books “.The students were given dates for canvassing and putting up posters, as their election campaign, for getting votes. Finally the students (from classes IV upwards) had to vote online. Parents of the prefect select were also invited for casting their votes. The investiture ceremony will occur on reopening of the school in the month of June. Interview and Extempore for Prefect Council Selection

The results were declared on the 12.4.18 and the new prefect council conducted a special assembly on the last day of the school. They requested a ‘No Bags Day’ for 13.4.18. And plans were made for different activities for the classes. Class I& II enjoyed the summer splash whereas Class III upwards participated in different activities such as PET, Aerobics, Dance, Music, Yoga. Professional Development: To keep abreast with the latest in the subjects and teaching methodologies, many workshops were organized using both Internal and External resource members. The publishers provided resource persons to bring in the new teaching methodologies in all subjects. Subject enrichment workshops were done as a refresher course. Senior teachers from DPS, Nacharam came to hand hold the middle school teachers of DPS, Mahendra Hills. An exhibition on English teaching aids was held at EFLU and our teachers went for the same and got back a lot of ideas which they are planning to implement in the new session.

5 of the faculty members went to Rama Krishna Mission to the Vivekananda Institute of Human Excellence (VIHE) for Awakened Citizen workshop to help the students develop life skills.

Sports: Students of class VII took part in the 5k run held by Pallavi International School at Gandipet. Students of classes V to VII took part in the 5KWALK on world Healthy Day - 7th April 2018 - Pallavi Aware International School Saroornagar

Swimming Bhavya Agarwal got gold medal in butterfly stroke under 12 age group. Aryan Chabbra, Lahari and Jhanavi participated in freestyle.

Curricular andCo-curricular Report for the Month of April 2018 Level: Middle School Academic:The academic year 2018-19 closed for summer break for students on the 13th of April 2018. Syllabus for the next academic year continued till the 13th of April. Syllabus for CRA to be held in the month of June was included in the holiday homework worksheet. Holiday homework worksheet was designed thematically. The teachers came up with innovative ideas to test them in the theme which was finalised.

Elections:Elections for middle school at DPS was a very colourful and an exciting event. It was Democracy in action. Students were made to undergo a stringent process for nominations and elections for student council and house captain posts. Screening was done

23 for student council through an essay writing, panel interview and speeches given by students. For house captains and deputies, nominated students campaigned using symbols and manifestos for their house. Students voted in ballot boxes. The results were declared to a roaring and excited audience.

Academic Proficiency Award Ceremony: It is customary at DPS to honour academic achievers for their round the year performance in academics. Students who had score d A1 for three consecutive years and who had scored A1 for that academic year were honoured at a glittering function on 7th April 2018.

GESE Exam at DPS Nacharam:DPS Nacharam conducted the GESE (Graded Exam of Spoken English) by Trinity College of London in the month of February 2018. Students aced the exam and many of them distinctions. The international certificates were distributed to students at an official function.

In-service and External Training for Teachers: Since the school was closed for students for their summer break, quality time was used to conduct in-house and external resource workshops as part of professional development of teachers. External resource members including textbook authors and from different publishing houses conducted subject based workshops. It was an enriching experience for all teachers.

New Staff Induction: A unique initiative by DPS Nacharam is the new staff induction program. Teachers are inducted into the school policies, processes and expectations of a DPS teacher in a 15 days induction program. All the heads of the school including the Principal, Vice Principals, Headmistresses, IT department, HODs and manager administration conduct workshops as part of induction of teachers into the school.

CURRICULAR AND CO-CURRICULAR REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL 2018 - LEVEL: Sr. SECONDARY 5TH APRIL – ADDRESSING CLASS XI (2018-19)

Delhi Public School, Nacharam held an Orientation session for new admissions on the 5th of April, 2018 for the new students for Science, Commerce and Humanities streams Principal, Mrs.Sunitha Rao and Vice-Principal, Mrs.NanditaSunkara oriented the parents with the functionality of the school, the streams offered, infrastructure, faculty, optional subjects etc. The parental queries were handled in a very organized manner. The school counsellors and the career counsellor guided the parents and students with their subject and optional choices.

7TH APRIL – NEW PARENTS/ STUDENTS ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR NEW CLASS XI Delhi Public School, Nacharam had organized a Mega Orientation Programme for the new Class XI (2018-19) batch of parents in the school Auditorium on 7th April, 2018. The parents were given a warm welcome by Principal, Mrs. Sunitha Rao & Vice-Principal, Mrs. Nandita Sunkara in their address speech.

The event started differently with a panel discussion for 25 minutes by the current Class XII batch of students who have journeyed for more than 13 years, right from Class I upwards in Mahendra Hills and later in Nacharam. These students represented the school as Ambassadors. Students who joined just a year back confidently spoke about how easily they were able to adapt themselves into the system of DPS and perform to the best of their abilities with constant support from their teachers and mentors in the school. The event also witnessed the introduction of highly qualified and well experienced PGTs from Science, Commerce & Humanities Streams. Parents were able to clarify their doubts and interact closely with all the subject teachers. The parents were aptly guided by the Career Counselors. The school offers streams such as MPC, BiPC, MBiPC, MEC, CEC& Humanities.

9TH APRIL- NEW ACADEMIC SESSION COMMENCED FOR CLASS XI

New Academic Session commenced for Class XI on the 9th of April, 2018 with all the streams – MPC, MEC, MBiPC, BiPC, CEC& Humanities. Both Principal and the Vice Principal addressed the students on the onset followed by a yoga session for the students. Close to 300 students were addressed by the Coordinator of Science Stream and other PGTs. The sequence of events as well as the forthcoming programmes were apprised.

11THto13TH APRIL- APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME FOR CLASS XII STUDENTS DPS,Nacharam organizes “Apprenticeship Program” annually for the students of class XII. Apprenticeship Program is an innovation seeking to link industry experience with school instruction. The objectives of Apprenticeship are to: (i) Give the first level exposure to choice of career. (ii) Enable students to acquire learning by applying the knowledge and skills they possess, in unfamiliar, open-ended real life situations (iii) Create the required setting for experiential and cooperative learning. (iv) Acquire skills and first hand exposure to profession.

Apprenticeship at NIMH A group of 25 students from DPS, Nacharam visited National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) on the 11th of April, 2018 for a three day apprenticeship. Dr.G.SriKrishna, lecturer in Rehabilitation Psychology & In charge Head and Dr. Naveen,Lecturer in Speech Pathology and Audiology & In-Charge Academics at NIHMS guided the studentsabout life in general and tips about how to make the next few days productive. They then divided the students into three groups and sent them to different rooms with a purpose of understanding and observing a few cases and tests.

Dr. Srikrishna also lectured the students on the human mind and about the various types of thoughts- real, imaginary, positive, negative and past, present, future. Students also visited the school for the intellectually disabled children that were a part of NIMH.

Apprenticeship – Fashion Designing

Fashion designing students of DPS, Nacharam along with their mentor Ms. MeghnaYalamanchali visited Jubilee Hills on the 11th of April, 2018 for the apprenticeship. Students were really excited to know about the trends in fashion industry. They learnt about how to sketch a dress and to make stencil for illustrations and came up with different forms of dresses like Indian, Indo-western,etc Their apprenticeship ended with a motto that they will enhance their knowledge and interest in the field.

Apprenticeship for CA (learning about GST) The apprenticeship for Chartered Accountancy (CA) was based at the Adukia& Associates, Banjara Hills.

It was a three day program conducted by C.A Pankaj Adukia. The main highlights of the programme were GST and its effects, and how to become a Chartered accountant and its significance. The first day included topics like Pre GST and GST regime. On the second day, topics like thesis for GST justification, advantages of GST, and taxes subsumed under GST were covered. On the concluding day, students passed journal entries on GST, prepared ledgers on Bank A/c and GST A/c , prepared trial balance , trading and P&L A/c and balance sheet.

Apprenticeship at CCMB A group of 27 students from DPS, Nacharam visited Centre for Cell and Molecular Biology(CCMB) on the 11th of April, 2018 for a three day apprenticeship. Dr. M. V. Jagannadham, Senior Principal Scientist and Dr. K. Lakshmi Rao were the mentors for the students.

On the first day of their apprenticeship, students learnt about CCMB and itsresearch in various fields. They were shown the different equipment used in the sterilization process and the culturing of bacteria. The second day witnessed the students performing an experiment on DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) isolation from cheek cells. On the closing day, the students visited the Clinical Research Facility (CRF) and viewed the video clip on chromosomal abnormalities and had an interaction regarding the same with Dr. Lakshmi. Apprenticeship for Interior Designing Interior Designing students of DPS, Nacharam visited Sketch Design Studios on the 11th of April, 2018 for their apprenticeship which lasted for three days.

Day one, students learnt from Mr. Sharath about designs and plans and their importance in every field of work. Day two, students were segregated into groups and were asked to work on a given model and put it up for display as part of their activity. Day three, students were asked to complete the sketches of the designs and plans which they had drawn on the first day in a professional way after being guided group by group by the mentors. The programme concluded with the announcement of the winner of day 2 activity. Students learnt how professional Interior Designers make use best use of the space they are given and how differently they work. Apprenticeship for Human Resource (HR): On the first day of apprenticeship, students were briefed up about the basics of business. They were also apprised that the main motive of business is not only profits but serving the society. Further, students were divided into groups for assignment related to Human Resource. On the second day, discussions were held on different departments of Human Resource, skills, competencies, job requirements and experience for recruitment manager and also on performance management. On the concluding day, the students were asked to complete their assignment. The session witnessed more discussions and clarifications on conflict management, ways to handle conflict, different cases in conflict management. Practical activities were also conducted on conflict management. 13th April –Last Day of Apprenticeship-Thanksgiving On the last day, the apprenticeship students showed their gratitude with a token of appreciation, a memento from school, a bouquet and a thank you card made by them to their mentors, and thanked them for giving their precious time and effort sharing their experience and knowledge.

16TH to 18TH APRIL - APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME PHASE II As part of the work education programme by CBSE, DPS, Nacharam provides exposure to students of classes XI and XII in various fields as per career choices of students in the form of 'Apprenticeship Program'. This include fields of Medical education, Pharmaceutical industry, IT/Software industry, banking and insurance sectors, hospitality industry and various institutes of Science, Commerce, Humanities, Mathematics and Corporate sector. The “Apprenticeship Program” will aid and abet the students to realize and comprehend the nuances of the actual job and subsequently help them identify their own goals in a realistic manner. Apprenticeship –RahejaMindspace (Science Stream)

19 students visited RahejaMindspace for a three day Apprenticeship.

BITS - APPRENTICISESHIP On the first day, the students visited the entire campus, and were elated to see the huge and unique library of BITS. They were also impressed to visit their auditorium which was Asia's largest academic auditorium with a capacity of 2500. On the second day, the students’ mentors explained them about their start up. On the final day, they visited many chemistry labs and received vital information regarding it. The students gave their presentations towards the end. Students got a wonderful opportunity to visit such a reputed institute. They were feeling highly motivated and many of them decided to opt BITS as a next step for their future study.

16TH APRIL – SESSION CONDUCTED BY EAM FROM HARVARD UNIVERSITY - USA

On 16th April,2018 a session was conducted on the application procedures for universities abroad at DPS, Nacharam campus. The objective of the session was to introduce the university application procedure to Grade 12 students. Ms. Kim – Former admissions officer (Harvard University) interacted with our students to explain them the application procedure and acceptance factors in US universities. The highlights of the session were as follows:  Scrutiny of the applications  Expected college essays by the team  How to build a profile The students found it very informative got the idea of importance of profile building & co- curricular activities

19TH APRIL – DEBATE ON MONEY MATTERS MATTER

A debate was conducted by DPS, Nacharam on the 19th of April, 2018 for Class XI Sec- H & I The topic of debate was ‘Money Matters Matter’. The objective of this event was to inspire children and young people about money matters and entrepreneurship. Through this the students understood the practical appreciation of financial planning and the ethical management of finances.

ASSEMBLIES 4TH APRIL- GROUND ASSEMBLY FOR THE ENTIRE SCHOOL

The school conducted a special assembly on the 4th of April, 2018 in school cricket ground for Classes I to XII. The thought provoking assembly began on the theme 'Moral values and its importance in life.” The purpose of this assembly was to inculcate the importance of moral values. The assembly started with the Morning Prayer and a set of Sanskrit Shlokas to elevate peace and concentration. The importance of values were highlighted.Ms. Sunitha Rao, Principal addressed the school on the importance of values in order to make the students understand the need of adopting these values in their lives. The Assembly was dispersed after the National Anthem. 7TH APRIL – CLASS XII Special Assembly for Orientation Programme A special assembly was held for the Orientation Programme. The orientation program was organized for the parents of new XI graders on 7th of April, 2018 in the auditorium. Ms. Sunitha Rao, Principal, and the first two parents of new XI grade students who came to the program, were invited to light the lamp. The students of class XII presented the prayer followed by warm welcome to the gathering by Ms.NanditaSunkara, Vice-Principal. 6 students from XII class ,initiated the panel discussion( Moderator-Ritu, Adithya, Venu, Saif, Kavyashree and Manaswini) about school, their experiences in a very innovative and interactive way. Queries were invited from the parents and were further clarified by the panel members. After the panel discussion the class teachers, subject teachers, counselors and IIT faculty were introduced to the gathering. 10TH APRIL – CLASS XII-F (NukkadNatak)

The anchors started the assembly by throwing light on how Rural impacts the country as a whole. This was followed by news, new word and thought for the day. The students then performed a nukkadnaathakon the importance of farmers and their contribution to the country, about handicrafts and aboutsmall scale industries that make a difference in the country. 11TH APRIL- CLASS XI

The assembly was organized by class XI students on 11-04-2018 at 08:05 am. The program started with prayer by XI choir. After the prayer, the Vice Principal apprised the students about the various activities that the school had planned in detail. The students were encouraged to participate in all the activities. Students were given 5 minutes to interact and introduce themselves. 17TH APRIL- CLASS XII-G The assembly of class 12 -G was conducted on Tuesday the 17th of April, 2018, on the topic: The role ofBanking Sector in three years. The students expressed their views on the role and importance of banksthrough speeches. The event was concluded by the Vice Principal sharing her words of wisdom on the topic with the students. 18TH APRIL – CLASS XI - The assembly was organized by class XI students on the18th of April, 2018. The program started with prayer by XI choir, the new word, the thought of the day and the News headlines. After the prayer, the Vice Principal addressed the students to be in neat uniform and not to get any electronic gadgets to the school.The Principal enquired about the adjustment of new batch in the school, took feedback about classes and details about the school activities and encouraged the students to take part in all the activities and briefed about election process. 23RD APRIL – ACADEMIC PROFIENCY AWARDS 2017-18 “The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential…These are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence”- Confucious Delhi Public School, Nacharam had recently organised Academic Proficiency Award ceremony for classes IX and XI on 23rd April, 2018 for the academic session 2017-18. The ceremony was organised to recognise the persistence, dedication and perseverance of students which led them to surpass excellence in academics. The function was led by Principal, Ms.Sunitha Rao and Vice Principal, Ms. Nandita Sunkara and was also graced by two guests: Mr Kishore Kumar, AGM, GAIL and Dr Rajesh Agarwal, ophthalmologist, both parents of class 11 students. The program began with the melodious rendition of prayer with the lighting of the lamp which filled the

35 atmosphere with celestial aura. The welcome address was given by the Vice Principal, in which she advised students to be disciplined and respectful. She emphasized the need for being determined and qualities of integrity, hard work, compassion and recognition of opportunities to achieve success. 60 students of class IX and 13 students of class XI of the academic session 2017-18 were awarded with merit certificates and badges for attaining A1 in academics. There was another category of award- Scholar certificates and badges - given to 40 students of class IX and 6 students of class XI ofthe academic session 2017-18; who have been achieving A1 for three successive years. School elections for Classes IX & X took place on the 12th of April, 2018. The whole process of taking polls and counting votes was done as fairly as possible. Planning for elections happened well in advance. The core committee comprised of Principal, Vice Principal, Mr. Kunal, Mr. Shravan, Ms. Meenu, Ms. Sangeetha and Ms. Deepa. The Election Flow Chart was uploaded on the website. Rules and eligibility criteria was very well explained in the school assembly. Nomination was filed by the students for various posts and the teachers reserved certain points to decide their eligibility of that post. Voting was done online supported by a software from Melite with support from Mr. Shravan and Mr. Kunal. The purpose of this event was to encourage electoral participation, to engage young people as fully as possible in the democratic process and to acquaint them with formal voting process. 19th APRIL - ELECTION PROCESS AND VOTING FOR CLASSES XI & XII

Student elections were held in DPS, Nacharam for classes XI & XII. The process started from 20th April ’18 and culminated with result declarations on 23rd April. School has set a unique method of conducting voting on digital platform and set standards in the process. The final eligible and shortlisted contestants were declared followed with electoral campaigns. The finalists used persuasive slogans, posters, and delivered motivating speeches. Good and fair election held on campus decided the white badges holders, captains and vice captains of different houses who would represent DPS in the session 2018-19. The badges and formal taking over of the responsibility will be held in the Investiture Ceremony in the month of June. LavnikBalyan& Shalika were declared as the Head Boy & Head Girl of the school respectively.

16TH APRIL – SUMMER CAMP COMMENCEMENT

Summer Camp commenced in DPS, Nacharam from 16th April.. Various sports like swimming, cricket, skating, basketball, and rifle shooting has been the attraction of the camp. Many parents enrolled themselves for yoga. A grand total of 176 participants attended the camp as on date. Kho-kho was added to the list of event of summer camp. The number of parents attending yoga rose to 27. The grand total of participants increased to 203.

18TH to 20TH APRIL – ANNUAL REVIEW & PROJECTIONS 2017-18 Annual Review Projections of DPS, Nacharam was conducted subject-wise on 18th April, 2018 as PowerPoint presentation in the presence of the Management, Principal, Vice Principals and Headmistresses. HODs both Seniors and Junior HODs of subjects English, Social Science, Mathematics, Science, Hindi, Telugu, French, Computers etc were conducted as pera schedule. The day began with a 15 minute light yoga session conducted by yoga teacher Srinivas. The session was conducted by Ms. Nandita Sunkara, Vice Principal in the Convention Hall at 9am who decked up the hall ready by placing ten tables and six chairs near each table for group activity; a note was also given to the teachers at the entrance to be used in the second activity. She effectively used PPT to effectively portray the meaning of Organizational Culture by citing Henry Mintzberg definition, that culture as organization ideology refers “the tradition and beliefs of an organization that distinguishes it from other organization and infuses a certain life into the skeleton of its structure”.

11TH to 13TH APRIL – “CONSOLIDATING MATHEMATICS” at DPS, DWARKA A grand workshop on Mathematics was conducted at the HRD Centre, DPS Dwarka. It is marked as a beginning in the series of workshops designed to enrich senior secondary teachers of mathematics.

Mathematics is the language with which God wrote the universe”- Galileo The event “Consolidating Mathematics” was held from 11th to 13 th April, 2018. Mr. Vamsi Krishna, a senior secondary maths teacher, represented DPS, Nacharam on this occasion. The focus of the workshop was to enrich various dimensions related to teaching – learning of mathematics to devise workable strategies for the improvement of our students understanding of math. The first day started with the introductory session presided by the Director, HRD Centre, Mr Harish Sachdeva. Prof. AmitabhaTripathi’s (Dept of Math, IIT Delhi) lecture on Pathways toCompetitions stressed the importance of finding the right set of students and orient them to beindependent thinkers. The inaugural session was attended by Prof AK Rajput (Head of the department of Elementary education, NCERT). On the second day, the participants had to present a topic “Sharing Math from Lived Experiences” briefly touching upon their instructional strategies/ methodology. Prof. Shukum Singh’s ,who pioneered the idea of having Math labs from CBSE and author of Math laboratory manuals, interactive session on utilizing hand-made geometrical aids to explain various mathematics topics was remarkable. The final day witnessed a session on by Mr Anil Kumar, Principal DPS Faridabad gave an insight on the importance of the math NCERT text in students preparation. The valedictory session on the last day was presided over by Prof AK Wazalwar (NCERT) who

40 consolidated the essence of teaching-learning process of math at senior secondary level which was a fitting finish to an enriching workshop. 14TH APRIL – CFBT TEACHERS’ – AWARD CEREMONY CFBT training was held in March 2017 at DPS Nacharam to train the teachers for reviewing the teaching learning process. Principal, Ms.Sunitha Rao apprised the teachers of the significance of the training and its outcomes. This was conducted by Ms. Varadalakshmi and team. The training session was for 5 days. The training was attended by all the Heads of the departments and class coordinators. Practical observation in the classroom was done by Mr. Phanindra CFBT member and awarded the qualified teachers with certificates.

The session gave an insight into overall understanding of the Audit programme and need of the Audit for more effective teaching process, to help develop good classroom and behavior management. It would also provide high quality learning experiences for the students. 16TH APRIL- VALUE EDUCATION PROGRAMME

A two–day workshop “AwakenedCitizen Programme’’ wasorganized by Ramakrishna Matt on 16th and 17th April,2018. The Workshop was attended by Ms.Radhika&Ms.Mounica from the Health& Wellness Dept of DPS, Nacharam. The objective of the session was to instill Value Education in children, to help students to transform and become better citizens and to train teachers to teach value education more innovatively. On day one, the session started by lighting the lamp by Swami Bodhamayananda and all the resource persons followed by Swamiji’s addressing the Teachers on importance of value education to the students. Resource persons IndraniDhi, VrindhaDhi, Avinash sir, provided a very good platform to share transformational information and ideas in a very interactive way using presentations and videos on all the Universal Possibilities and on Unique Possibilities both Physical and Knowledge Possibilities. The session helped teachers to know about how everyone can choose to become an Awakened Citizen by instilling all the Universal Possibilities within us. The session was concluded by distribution of ACP kits and Participation Certificates.

Agenda- The greater fulfillment of computer skills, by strengthening the capacity of staff to effectively toachieve a greater awareness, understanding of programming languages. The Audit Officer – Mr. Seshadri with a team of 4 senior members audited all the compartments of the school. They found all our procedures to be satisfactory in terms of quality standards implemented in detail in the school. The Audit officer was pleased to award the ISO 9001:2015 to the school of course with few recommendation to improvise the existing procedures of the school. The management had organized a grand and lavish programme on 21st April,2018 for its Annual Dinner where all the three branches of DPS- Nacharam, Mahendra Hills and Nadergul had assembled for a time of recreation and entertainment towards the session end. ISO certifications were also presented to the Principals of all the three schools. The CCA incharge, Mrs.Meenu conducted the session wherein different groups from each of the 3 branches, Nacharam, Nadergul and Mahendra Hills put up an entertainment show. Cadet Geethika,a class X student of DPS, Nacharam, participated in annual audit conducted by 4 Telangana Battalion NCC, as she had participated in Republic Day Parade 2018. Col. Ns Pal, Group Commander visited the Annual Audit on 19th April, 2018. The Group commander spoke to the cadets and appreciated them for the same.

22ND APRIL – K. V. ABHIRAM OF CLASS 9 BAGS “INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIP” AWARD AT HYDERABAD SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP On 22nd April, 2018 Master K.V. Abhiram, a class IX student of DPS, Nacharam had participated in Hyderabad Youth Swimming Championship which was held at Gachibowli. He bagged 2 gold medals and a bronze medal in various swimming categories. This also enabled him to succeed in claiming the Individual Championship Medal . 12TH APRIL – PVA FOR CLASS XI

The PVA department of DPS, Nacharam conducted a two day workshop Varnam 2017 - 2018 on the 12th of April for the new Class XI batch. New School Hip Hop was the theme and it was an exciting two day workshop, where children were overwhelmingly impressed with the dance and expressed that it was fun-filled learning.

A proud moment for DPS, Nacharam as ShrivalliRashmikaa, an outgoing classXII student, wins the finale of the prestigious Roland Garros Series Juniors Wild Card tennis tournament held at Delhi Lawn Tennis Association. In order to offer more young tennis players an opportunity to experience the charm of Grand Slam on the red-clay court in Roland Garros, the French Tennis Federation has been launching a series of activities. This year, organized junior wild card competitions in China, India and Brazil to identify the best clay-court tennis players. Shrivalli defeated Tanisha Kashyap of Assam 6- 4, 6-4 in the final on the 28th of April,2018. She will be travelling to Paris on May 18 for a wild card of Junior French Open. She is pitted against two other players for the main draw wild card.
