Misanello subsequently won two of three races and was honored as top claimer at the Hollywood Park fall meeting. • Nearly won the 1994 Yellow Ribbon Stakes at Oak Tree when Fondly Remembered came within a half-length of defeating Aube Indienne. • Assistant to Roger Stein when Southern Truce won the 1993 Santa Margarita Handicap over two-time champion Paseana and Forty Niner Days took the $400,000 Golden Gate Handicap in 1991. Personal • Spent the early part of 2005 undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments after learning that he had contracted throat cancer. • Began career in 1972 as stable hand for a family friend’s standardbred barn at Hollywood Park while attending business and accounting classes at Cal State University, Los Angeles. • Served as assistant to then-leading trainer Don Ratchford in 1974 and 1975. • Went on his own training standardbreds in 1978 at the Meadowlands.
