Personal • Spent the early part of 2005 undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments after learning that he had contracted throat cancer. • Began career in 1972 as stable hand for a family friend’s standardbred barn at Hollywood Park while attending business and accounting classes at Cal State University, Los Angeles. • Served as assistant to then-leading trainer Don Ratchford in 1974 and 1975. • Went on his own training standardbreds in 1978 at the Meadowlands.
