Thank you for being a part of the eighth Regulators Reckoning and 2014 Tennessee State SASS Championship at Wartrace. We hope you will find this a fun shoot and place us on your calendar for next year. The only thing more important than a “Fun Shoot” is a “ Shoot”. Please read the enclosed information so there is no misunderstanding of the rules for safety. Remember, THE SPIRIT OF THE GAME PREVAILS!

This match is sanctioned and sponsored by SASS, the Single Action Shooting Society. SASS guidelines will be strictly enforced.

Each competitor is responsible for his or her competence with firearms, as this match is not designed to be a beginner’s match. You are a safety officer, responsible for your conduct, your guest’s conduct and others within your influence. You must always follow range rules.

Spectators, please be aware of these range rules: Alcoholic beverages allowed only at the Friday night dinner. Ear and Eye protection is mandatory within line of sight of the shooting areas. ONLY REGISTERED SHOOTERS AND VENDORS WITH BADGES MAY WEAR FIREARMS.

The Friday night dinner is held on the range at 5:00 pm. We will have door prizes and Side Match awards on Friday night. We do allow adult beverages at the Friday night dinner. It is BYOB. No guns, please. If we experience bad weather the Friday night dinner will be held at Arrowhead Ranch.

The Saturday night banquet and awards dinner will be held at the Blue Ribbon Circle. Directions are in your shooters packet. Social hour begins at 6:30 pm. It is BYOB. Dinner begins at 7:00 pm. No guns, please.

The information presented in this handbook is subject to change. So please listen to the announcements and verbal instructions from the Match Director, Safety Officers, and Stage Drivers.

GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

 No alcoholic beverages are allowed on the property. (Allowed only during Friday night dinner.)  No one will be allowed to shoot if, in the judgment of the range officer, they are impaired.  All shooters must be SASS members in good standing.  Pistols must be holstered and actions open on long guns at all times off the firing line.  Firearms may only be loaded when at the loading table and on the firing line.  All shooters and spectators must wear ear and eye protection.  All shooters are expected to be familiar with all SASS RULES.  All shooters must abide by the decision of the range officer.  Unsafe firearm handling will not be tolerated.  Please don’t throw your cigarette butts on the ground. Cowboys and Cowgirls don’t litter.

OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS WE THINK YOU OUGHTA KNOW!

 The stage drivers are a hand-picked crew assigned to monitor the individual events and ensure consistency from posse to posse. They will not run the stages, but will observe. The stage drivers’ instructions as to the rules and procedures for each stage are binding even if they seem in conflict with the written description.  The schedule assumes there are three minutes “Beep to Beep” for each shooter, including all the overhead of understanding the stage; checking the targets for correct alignment; getting folks loaded; etc.  Our shooting schedule on Friday and Saturday will allow time between individual shooters for brass pickup as long as shooting is not delayed. Brass or shot shells beyond the firing line CANNOT be retrieved.  This notice is to inform all participants and spectators that your picture may be published in the newspaper or other publications. If you have objections to this, please inform us at the check-in station. Photos remain the property of the Wartrace Regulators with all publication rights. So remember to smile, you may be on camera.

2014 RANGE RULES AND SCORING

Wartrace Regulator Range Rules  This is a muzzle up action open range as soon as weapons are removed from the case and until replaced back in the case. If you want to show someone your guns please do so at an unloading/loading table keeping the muzzle pointed down range.  Eye and ear protection must be worn by shooters and spectators while standing behind the firing line.  When you have your guns loaded at the loading table we ask that you do not leave the table until you are called to the firing line.  Gun malfunctions on the firing line are the shooters responsibility to clear or hand off the gun.  Pistol or rifle round over the berm is a MATCH DQ at the Wartrace Regulator Range.  No alcoholic beverages allowed on the range. (Allowed only during Friday night dinner.)  This is a SASS match all SASS rules apply.

Wash, ’s engineer, reminisces about Earth’s history as he guides the team toward their next destination. All is calm until an alarm goes off on the train, warning of trouble ahead, Wash exclaims, “Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal.”

In a ghost town on the outer frontier, the crew tries to figure out what happened to all the inhabitants as well as find a way out of town without being killed themselves. Jayne, hired gun of the Serenity, tires of River’s cries over the lost civilization and shouts, “She’s damaging my calm.”

Mal and Jayne have hitched up a wagon and loaded it with goods to make a deal. Mal, dressed as Jayne’s wife, surprises a group of bandits and gets the upper hand when the deal goes bad. “If your hand touches metal,” Mal warns the bandits, “I swear by my pretty floral bonnet I will end you.”

Kaylee, Serenity’s machinist, struggles in social settings but happily joins the crew as they saddle up to pull off a big, dangerous job. “Be careful,” Mal scolds Kaylee. Not quite paying attention to the Captain or the danger they have just entered, she replies, “Yes sir, Captain Tightpants.”

Shepherd Book, a preacher with a clouded past, plans to join Serenity’s crew on a mission to rescue a tortured Mal from a guarded mine shaft. Zoe questions Book on whether the Bible has some specific things to say about killin’. “Quite specific,” he replies. “It’s somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.”

Ammo: 10 Pistol, 10 Rifle, 6+ Shotgun.

The said they were going to waltz through Serenity Valley, but the Browncoats were making them choke on those words. Holding the line, Malcolm Reynolds tries to rally the troops as the Alliance mounts another attack. “We’re not going to die,” Mal shouts. “We are just too pretty for God to let us die.” Ammo: 10 Pistol, 10+1 Rifle, 4+ Shotgun.

River Tam is a brilliant young lady engineered by the Alliance to be the perfect assassin. Her mind, still clouded by enduring years of experimentation, finds it difficult to adjust to life on Serenity. River’s learned instincts finally kick in as she attacks Jayne with a knife and smirkingly replies, “You look better in red.”

The crew of the Serenity have been tipped that a great amount of money is being stored at the bank. Executing their plan, the crew takes the bank without incident. As Mal opens the safe, everyone is shocked to see that it is mostly empty. “At last,” Zoe sarcastically replies. “We can retire from this life of crime.”

Stage #9 GRAFTON’S

Inara Serra is a companion who chooses her own clients, but has started to have feelings for the ship’s Captain, Malcolm Reynolds. As Mal spreads out all his firearms on the galley table, checking each one prior to the big confrontation, Inara reminds him that, “Concealable weapons always go to the left of the place setting.”

Ammo: 10 Pistol, 10 Rifle, 4+ Shotgun.

BEGIN standing outside with both hands on double doors. Doors are closed. Pistols are holstered. Shotgun is staged on either window shelf. Rifle is staged on opposite window shelf from shotgun.

Line: “Concealed weapons on the left!”

At the Buzzer:  Gun order is shooters choice but rifle can’t be shot last.  Pistols, shot from either window, triple tap each pistol target then engage any rifle target with 10th round.  Rifle, shot from staged location, triple tap each rifle target then engage small red target with 10th round. Make rifle safe.  Shotgun, engage knockdowns in any order. Make shotgun safe.

Load on Right. Unload on Left.

Stage #10 OUTLAW CABIN

On the run from the Alliance, Simon Tam gave everything up to break his sister out of a government research facility in order to protect her. Now, he adjusts to life on the run with the crew of the Serenity. Shepherd, still unconvinced that Simon realizes what he has gotten himself into, asks Simon if he has his next heist planned. “No,” Simon replies. “But I'm thinking about growing a big black mustache. I'm a traditionalist.”

Ammo: 10 Pistol, 10 Rifle, 4+ Shotgun.

BEGIN standing in Line Shack door, both feet on floor and hands on door frame. Pistols are holstered. Shotgun is staged on center shelf. Rifle is staged on center gun shelf.

Line: “I’m a traditionalist!”

At the Buzzer:  Gun order is shooters choice but rifle can’t be shot last.  Rifle, starting on either end target engage the 4 rifle targets in a continuous 10 round single tap Nevada sweep. Make rifle safe.  Pistols, starting on either end pistol target engage the 4 pistol targets in a continuous 10 round single tap Nevada sweep.  Shotgun, engage knockdowns in any order. Make shotgun safe.
