Cabe ao exportador colocar a mercadoria livre junto ao costado do navio. Esta modalidade é também conhecida pela sigla FFA (Free From Alongside – Livre Junto ao Costado do Navio); Container FIO (Free In and Out –Livre de Entrada e Saída de Bordo): cabe ao armador apenas o transporte da mercadoria. As despesas com embarque, estiva e desembarque correm por conta do exportador. A sigla FIOS (Free In Out and Stowed – Livre de Entrada, Saída e Arrumação) designa variante da modalidade FIO; FIOST (Free In Out Stowed and Trimmed – Livre de Entrada, Saída, Arrumação e Distribuição da Carga): trata-se de outra variante da modalidade FIO, utilizada sobretudo para o transporte de granéis; FI (Free In – Livre de Entrada a Bordo): o exportador encarrega-se do pagamento das despesas referentes a embarque e estiva. Cabe ao armador a responsabilidade pelo pagamento das despesas com o desembarque. As modalidades FIS (Free In and Stowed – Livre de Entrada e Arrumação), FILO (Free In Liner Out – Livre de Entrada e Responsável pela Saída) e FISLO (Free In Stowed Liner Out – Livre de Entrada e Arrumação, e Responsável pela Saída) são variantes da modalidade FI. FO (Free Out- Livre de Saída de Bordo): ao exportador cabe apenas o pagamento das despesas relativas ao desembarque. Os gastos de embarque e estiva correm por conta do armador. A modalidade LIFO (Liner In Free Out) é idêntica à FO (Free Out). The grounding of the Kathleen G in May and the Physalie in June both resulted from skippers falling asleep due to fatigue. “Fortunately no-one was injured in these accidents but our research shows fifty percent of seafarers were fatigued on at least one of their last five trips and already this year there have been five accidents where fatigue has been a major contributing factor,” says MSA Manager Strategic Analysis and Planning Sharyn Forsyth. “The fishing industry by nature has a highly demanding physical workload but not managing fatigue properly is clearly too great a risk to take.
