Wendy Allerton (visiting Tuesday October 11-Thursday October 13)

Wendy Allerton is currently the Dean of Upper School, Middle School and Dean of Faculty at The in Simsbury, CT. Wendy joined Ethel Walker’s in 2006 as Dean of Middle School, taking on her additional roles in 2009. Currently, Wendy oversees all aspects of the academic program grades 6-12 and directs all aspects of faculty life, including hiring and professional development. Wendy has led the organization and implementation of new systems for faculty evaluation, professional development and mentoring programs; additionally, she developed a set of Principles of Good Practice for Department Chairs (currently under review by NAIS for inclusion in their published Principles of Good Practice) and reorganized the committee of department chairs and curriculum committee. Prior to her tenure at The Ethel Walker School, Wendy was a member of the Miss Porter’s School community as the Director of Summer Programs and as a Spanish teacher. During her time at Miss. Porter’s, Wendy chaired the Faculty Committee, served as an advisor to Student Council and coached . Wendy began her teaching career at the Allendale Columbia School in Rochester, NY after graduating Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Spanish and Art History from Tufts. Wendy is a product of an , attending . She received her MA in Spanish from Middlebury College, participated in the NAIS Fellowship for Aspiring Heads and is Chair of the Board of Trustees of Grace Academy in Hartford, CT. Wendy and her husband Timothy, a science teacher at , have enjoyed campus life but currently live off campus with their two daughters Kennelly and Kendall.
