Heritage Open Days in Huddersfield 2015 FREE Heritage Open Days in Huddersfield 2015 Thursday 10 – Sunday 13 September About Heritage Open Days Heritage Open Days celebrate England’s fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to places that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission. Every year on four days in September, buildings of every age, style and function throw open their doors. It is a once-a-year chance to discover architectural treasures and enjoy a wide range of tours, events and activities that bring local history and culture to life. Once again this year, Huddersfield Local History Society and Huddersfield Civic Society have taken the initiative to coordinate a vibrant programme of activities for Huddersfield Town centre, supported by Kirklees Council. The two societies are members of Discover Huddersfield, a community-led partnership offering new ways to experience the town’s buildings, businesses and social history. The result is a programme that brings exciting opportunities to visit important local buildings – some of which are opening their doors to the public for the very first time. There are also walks and talks, exhibitions and events to enjoy. Events organised by other local groups are also included in this brochure. The steering group would like to thank all of the property owners who are taking part this year and the groups and individuals who have contributed to the programme. On a national level, the programme is managed by Heritage Open Days which is supported by the National Trust, with funding from Players of People’s Postcode Lottery. Some events are also part of the Huddersfield High Street Heritage Action Zone cultural programme centred on St George’s Square. All events are organised independently with support from the Kirklees HOD Committee, which has prepared this brochure. Many events are open access but some have to be booked. Bookable events are identified in the brochure with details of how to book (there is no centralised booking system this year).
