We have a co-op. This is where farmers can store their corn and beans during harvest season. Farmers come from all around the area. (Yes, you’re absolutely correct in assuming traffic is horrible. I usually only find myself stuck behind two or three tractors on days when I’m running late for work.) With my husband being a farmer, I have learned to value having such close access to a co-op. Speaking of my husband, he is also a volunteer fire-fighter for the Thornton Fire Department. Next to our fire department we have our main city office. In here you can do all sorts of fun things, like pay your electric bill! Also on Main Street we have our post office, our bank, a basketball court, and an insurance company. My favourite part of the day always include checking the mail. We have a golf course with a restaurant inside that has the best fries ever. We have a salon, two churches, and three other nature parks. We have one gas station. I don’t love this place because they carry my favourite flavour of Sobe Lifewater (score) but because the people who work there are there because they love people. Now that I come to think of it, everyone in Thornton you come across loves to have a good chat. My husband grew up in a neighbouring town, well known in this area, long before I was here. Therefore, arriving to Thornton everyone already knew me. “Oh yes there goes Kelli Lage, the farmer’s wife.” Right away I found myself wanting to get to know these people. Now, I am happy to say I have. Thornton is a tightly knit community where people care about each other. If you’re ever in America feel free to look me up. Queensbury Celtic Junior Football Club have partnered up with the Rotary Club of West Bradford and Lloyds Bank to fund the defibrillator. It is installed on the side of the training hall, facing the playing fields at Queensbury Celtic Football Club at the top of Pit Lane in Queensbury (BD13 3ST). Sue Parnaby, Welfare Officer at the football club said, “The defibrillator was purchased through Yorkshire Ambulance Service. Anyone in the locality can access and use it: all they have to do is call 999 and the emergency service will provide details of the location, an access code and full instructions. No training is necessary. ‘ “We are a very popular junior football club. With players, coaches, parents, grandparents and other supporters we have hundreds of people, of all ages, on site at the football club every week. Hopefully we will never have to use the defibrillator. But if we need to use it, it could be a lifesaver, literally!” Richard Greenwood, President of the Rotary Club of Bradford West said: “We are really happy to have helped the football club purchase the public access defibrillator. It’s wonderful to see a local sport club supporting and serving their community. Rotary is all about giving something back to local communities so we are delighted to be able to invest in this life-saving resource for local people.” The Rotary Club of Bradford West is running a programme to help people learn basic lifesaving CPR.
