To boil it down, West Sealand is the perfect choice for travelers with a taste for countryside authenticity, intriguing history and local charm – with the city right around the corner. The region comprises protected nature, a national park and NATURE green highlights such as The Gardens of Birkegården and GEM Geopark Odsherred, which again supports the regions position as a beautiful and natural counter piece to Copenhagen. The destination offers opportunities to travel back in time and become a Viking for a day in the historical areas and museums around Tissø, Trelleborg and Roskilde, where the Viking memoir is well preserved. The picturesque region has been the source of inspiration to many of Hans Christian Andersen’s famous writings. He adored visiting both Sorø and Holsteinborg Mansion, where guests today can take a stroll in his footsteps. Furthermore, visitors get the chance to get an inspirering introduction into the Danish “cooporative movement”, which is unique to the Danish society and makes a corner stone in the “Scandinavian Model”. KALUNDBORG IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF CRUSADERS & VIKINGS One of the best preserved medieval towns. In Kalundborg, you will experience authenticity, hospitality, and genuine warmth. Here, you will not be a tourist, but our guest. In essence, Kalundborg offers a peek into the true Denmark; the hospitable, friendly, and warm atmosphere will charm cruise guests, after they have visited hectic and busy capitals, by providing a complete contrast that will bring the whole cruise into perspective. Here, they will have the opportunity to take a tour in the surrounding area in the morning and enjoy the beautiful medieval town with its local museum, art exhibitions, and church concerts or to shop in the flea market or in Kalundborg’s small specialist shops in the afternoon.

In recent years more and more municipalities have used ESCO-contracts to retrofit existing public buildings, and to make them more energy efficient. At the moment 30 municipalities (of the 98 municipalities in Denmark) are involved in, or preparing, ESCO contracts. Nevertheless, ESCO-contracting still faces many challenges on the Danish market, as there is a widespread skepticism towards the concept amongst many stakeholders. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the various experience gained so far by municipalities use of ESCO-contracting, the different approached to ESCO-contracting being used in practice, as well as the different viewpoints drivers and barriers behind the development.
