was spent in ireland bebetweenon the years 1961 and 196319630 in jan- uary 1962 v the first presidency of the church announced that ireland rouldwould be organized as a separate mission and I1 had the opportunity of being present july 1313p 1962 when the irish mission vabwabvaswas officially or- ganized in belfast ireland after leaving ireland into 196319630 I1 returned to brigham young uni- versity to continue layinymy studies and also becbeebecame curious about the history of MormormonianmormoniammormonismMormomonianniam in ireland prior to 196219620 A few days of searching brought forforthforthatha only four pages of history contained in the bookbookpbookap century of mor- monism in great britain 9.9 and the ffotrfourew pages contained only scant infinfor-or mationmationlonfor the years 184018411840 1841 somewhat disappointed I1 began looking in several early editions of the millennial star the church publication for the british isles and washappywas happy to find reprints of several letters and reports written by the firtfirst normnmo n missionaries in ireland fur- ther research in the early volumes of the millennial star yielded nearly one hundred articles each of whiwhichch was zeroxedxeroxed fforor aymy personal use and reference after graduating from Brigbrightabrighaabrighanzhanz young university the opportunity arose to teach seminary fforroror the church and to begin graduate work in the field of history of religion since a masters degree required a thesis iv I1 requested and obtained fernnpermissionpernnssionassion to do fartherfurther research and write a thesis on the history of the church of jesus christ of latterlatterdayday saints in ireland since 181018401840. tt additional data provided sufficient material to write at least the general history of the church in that country what began as a personal hobby has resulted in this thesis and has satisfied much of nymy cariosity of mormon activitieactivitiess in the emerald isleisleaisleo mormonismmotmonismMotmonism in ireland since 1837 when joseph smith directed that missionaries go to britain the british isles harehave been of major importanceortance in the progress and development of the church of jesus christ of latterlatterdayday saints many converts have been gathered from glandenglandErgiand scotland and wales and much has been written about missionary chievemeftsachievemeiltsa in the three countries lttielittleI1 however is publicly known about mormon acti- vities in ireianIrelanirelanddp a country also includedinc ed in the british elesmissionMissiono furt- therhermoremore few people realize that the irish have also made some signifi- cant contributions to the growth and development of the churchchurchy popular opinion shared by many mormons and nonnonmormonsmormons alike has been that few irish men and women joined the mormon church and that the missionaries have experienced little success among the irish it was not until the irish mission was organized in 1962 that much atten- tion was given to the church in ireland and because of the recent pro- gress there the question consequently may arise what have the mor mons accomplished in ireland or it may be asked have the irish heretofore accepted mormonism while this thesis may not provide all the answers it is the first v attempt knornknown bytoy the author to answer some of them and the results may prove to be interesting to mormons and their nonnonmormonmormon friendfriendsso to findfindsind the answers 127 arcualannualarmual volumes of the millennial star have been examined page by page credit is also given to andrew Jenjensosjendosjensontsbontssonts collec- tion of articles entitled the irish mission located in the church his- torian a officeofficeleeeven though jenson wrote very little about ireland he did gather a valuable collection of articles pertaining to mormon activity thewtherethem other sources of great aid in the church historians office were the manuscript history of the british mission and journal hihistory of thefeemee church of jesus christ of latterlatterdaydayM saints but it should be pointed out that the referencereferencesa made to ireland in these two sources were often reprinted from the millennial starstarestaro there were however copies of several letters written by irish missionaries contained in the two sources whichwh ich provided infincormationformationinformationornationmationmatlonotothervilotherwisehervil se unavailable 1 the improvement era the deseret newsmews and a few private journals also con- tained valuable infoiationinfomatiome it iiss hoped that the thesis may prove to be interesting to others who may desire to know the hihistorystory of MormonMormonimormoniaamormonianmonianaa in ireland and that perhaps through a stadystudy of the past some suggestions mwmay be pro- vided for possible future growth of the church among the irish for     A Genealogical Report on the Descendants of Michael Horan and Mary Minnock by A.L. McDevitt Introduction The purpose of this report is to identify the descendants of Michael Horan and Mary Minnock While few Horans live in the original settlement locations, there are still many people from the surrounding areas of Caledon, and Simcoe County, Ontario who have Horan blood. Though heavily weigh toward information on the Albion Township Horans, (the descendants of William Horan and Honorah Shore), I'm including more on the other branches as information comes in. That is the descendants of the Horans that moved to Grey County, Ontario and from there to Michigan and Wisconsin and Montana. I also have some information on the Horans that moved to Western Canada. This report was done using Family Tree Maker 2012. The Genealogical sites I used the most were Ancestry.ca, Family Search.com and Automatic Genealogy. While gathering information for this report I became aware of the importance of getting this family's story written down while there were still people around who had a connection with the past. In the course of researching, I became aware of some differences in the original settlement stories. I am including these alternate versions of events in this report, though I may be personally skeptical of the validity of some of the facts presented. All families have myths. I feel the dates presented in the Land Petitions of Mary Minnock and the baptisms in the County Offaly, Ireland, Rahan Parish registers speak for themselves. Though not a professional Genealogist, I have the obligation to not mislead other researchers.

To Robert was given as good an education as his prospects demanded and the times permitted; and he also received a thoroughly good agricultural training on the family homestead, until he was of age to begin farming on his own account. This he did, at the same time marrying Mary Bell, the daughter of a neighbouring farmer, and of the same age as himself.
