As the clouds and cold diminish by the day and the sun begins its slow journey to the welcome warmth of summer, let us enjoy the moment of right now. Spring time, to me, doesn’t get much appreciation from the general public. We relish in the summer sun and then look forward to the snow and holiday season, while spring is known as that sometimes rainy, sometimes sunny time in-between. No longer I say.

It is during the Spring season when the grapes growing on vines around the world do their most amazing work. Slowly concentrating their sugars, tannins and flavors to one day ripen into a matured grape, worthy of the grandest wine. Spring is a critical time frame when winemakers can take stock of the health of their forthcoming harvest, and we can start to salivate at what may very well become a vintage.

In a world far removed from soil and vines, the fashion elite see Spring as a time to show off all the hard work they’ve scrutinized during the cold days of winter. It is an odd thing, to think of and design clothing for a much nicer climate, when you’re packed in the bitter cold. And therein lies the magic of the fashion designer -- to take an incongruous situation and form some of the most chic styles to wear.

Lucky for us all, our team at The Snob has managed to curate two different worlds and bring to you only the best of both. Surely, drinking a big Cabernet in a bold design never looked and tasted so good.

Santé!

LEFT: Renowned for its engraving and enamel painting workshops as well as its Damascene timepieces, Blancpain is presenting Shakudō Bonzai. Japanese in origin, Shakudō is an alloy principally composed of copper and gold, which acquires a dark patina between blue and black, according to variations in its composition and texture. The black patina is obtained following a process called passivation, which calls for the application of a solution. This solution, which is composed of copper acetate (green gray), has been traditionally fabricated in Japan where it is known as rokushō. Fully respecting the aesthetics of the Villeret col- lection, these models are housed in a red gold stepped bezel case of 45 mm, the diameter of which gives free reign to the creativity of Blancpain’s craftsmen. Through the sapphire case back, one can gaze upon the hand wound caliber 15B decorated with hand applied Côtes de Genève (Geneva stripes). 24 The $nob Mar/Apr The $nob Mar/Apr 25 The Octa Divine is now available in a case size of 42 mm. Completely re- designed, F.P.Journe’s Octa Divine model now features a new look: elegant, uncluttered, and perfectly legible. The instantaneous date is displayed in enlarged windows that stand out against the Gold dial where the seconds disk display and the power reserve indicator are subtly delineated. The elegant sapphire moon phase disk, the delicate blued steel hands, and the streamlined polished steel circle screwed to the dial are all exclusive characteristics of F.P.Journe. A spark of whimsy is added by the different sized numerals of the hours ring, while red dots enliven the resolutely contemporary aesthet- ics of the dial. The automatic movement manufactured in 18K rose Gold has a power reserve of over 5 days. The Octa Divine, available only from F.P. Journe boutiques, also exists with a 40 mm case, in Platinum or in 18K red Gold.

With a diameter of 42 mm, the Longines Conquest Classic Moonphase houses the self-winding mechanical chronograph movement L678. The case is available in steel, in steel and rose gold cap or in 18 carats rose gold. The black or silvered dial is set with 9 applied indices coated with Super-Lumi- Nova® and makes an elegantly contrasting background to the moonphase display. It features the 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, the 24-hour indicator and the subdial for the seconds at 9 o’clock, as well as the 30-minute counter and the day-and-month display at 12 o’clock. The date is indicated by a half- moon central hand. Water-resistant to 5 bar, this model displays a transparent case back through which its scintillating movement can be observed. These chronographs are fitted on a black alligator strap or a steel or steel and rose gold cap bracelet, all having a triple folding safety clasp.

The epitome of Bell & Ross’s watch-making expertise, the WW1 Chronog- raphe Monopoussoir is a complication that is as practical as it is functional. This particular chronograph facilitates the measurement of short periods of time by the pressing of a single button. Perfectly incorporated into the crown, the single button operates all the chronograph’s commands: start, stop and reset, for safer and faster use. Its dial, brown with a distressed look, its sand- colored numerals, index and hands are reminiscent of the dials of old watches down to the last detail, giving an inimitable retro-chic appeal to the model as a whole. The watch’s legibility lies in the contrast of the numerals and index against the brown dial. With its military finishes inspired by history and its natural leather strap, the Chronographe Monopoussoir Heritage has the authentic appeal of a measuring instrument of the era. Featuring the La Joux- Perret movement, housed in a 45mm case, this watch is a fantastic timepiece.

onchos have been around for a very long time, so it is hardly ground-breaking when a fashion brand comes up with their own new take on the classic garment. Little more than a piece of cloth with a place to put your head through, one would dismiss a poncho as a mere afterthought in the larger luxury fashion scene. This however, is the farthest thing from the truth and indeed many brands are finding inventive ways at making the poncho a must-have item for the Spring. Established in 1959, Artigiani Milanesi was founded in Milan, Italy by the Bizzarri family. For over 55 years, they have been crafting fine Italian style and cashmere knitwear with meticulous care and personal pride in their stylish, hand-finished designs. Every one of their extraordi- narily high-quality garments is critically inspected for styling and quality to ensure a perfect, visually-striking fit. They use only the purest of natural yarns sourced from Mon- golia. The yarns are then carefully milled in Italy and England to create unmatched softness and a fine lightweight texture, superior to other cashmeres on the market. The quality of the cashmere is of utmost importance, but style does not take a backseat, as demonstrated in their latest collection. “We are very proud to introduce our 2015 Winter Collection inspired by the singular natural beauty and artistic sensibility of our new home,” said Partner and Creative Director Rebecca Biz- Pzarri. “As the only Italian Cashmere Knitwear Artisans in Canada, Artigiani Milanesi takes pride in creating exceptional garments of unparalleled quality that reflect our discerning clientele.” Their bespoke collection includes twenty-four women’s coats, ponchos, jackets, sweaters, car- digans and dresses, that are available in sixteen custom colors. A lightweight design and a looser fit is the main focus, making for a chic yet comfortable look. Every curve of a client’s body is measured for the specified clothing piece, and then artisans create a perfect fit in just a few weeks. The workshop in their headquarters in Bowen Island, Vancouver produces an average of six high-quality sweaters a day. From private individual clients to high-end boutiques in New York and Vancouver, the bespoke line has a great following, but don’t overlook their signature pieces. Their signature pieces include the classic poncho, which feels like a big hug from the softest Persian kitten, the classic Aspen coat, and the hunting jacket. If your current weather situation is not cold enough for a poncho, the collection’s circular scarf will keep you the right amount of warm while upping your accessory game. Another must-have item is the Anouk Cardigan, which takes the wrap sweater to another level. If you don’t know Artigiani Milanesi yet, you should get to know them now because you deserve the style and luxury of their cashmere pieces.

38 The $nob Mar/Apr The $nob Mar/Apr 39 Icono clasts Visiting Paso Robles and Regions Beyond By Jeffrey Gomez

Living in a state where the best wines from around the country are born and bred, it is hard to find gems that I do not already know. And so it was my enviable task to root out and high- light some of the best wines that hail from the wine region of Paso Robles. Having a very real sense of the region, its people, wineries and happenings, I thought my trip would be rather bland. What I found after three days of speaking and tasting with a myriad of folks was another great facet as to why Paso Robles is the hottest wine region in all of the United States right now. Situated half way between San Francisco and Los Angeles, Paso Robles (Paso for short) is a destina- tion that is easily accessible and a nice diversion from city life. With the Santa Lucia Mountains cutting a swath through Paso, the region is ideal for grape growing. With elevations ranging from 600 to 1,200 ft. above sea level, the wines that grow best and thus mostly planted, are of the southern Rhône varietals, ie Grenache, Syrah and Mouvèdre, though there is a smattering of other varietals such as Zinfandel and Viogner. And if that wasn’t enough, if you look hard enough, you can find people planting Grenache Blanc and ! >> 40 The $nob Mar/Apr The $nob Mar/Apr 41 But the thing that makes Paso Robles stand out from other regions (*cough* Napa Valley) is the fact that there are so many wine makers trying new things and are perfectly fine with being iconoclasts of Cali- fornia winemaking. Grape varietals such as Albariño, Sangiovese, Verdelho and Tannat are all being planted and grown to make fantastic wines, albeit in small quantities. Nevertheless, the strict rules and stodgy ways of making wine simply do not hold up in Paso. Instead intrepid wine makers are experimenting and finding new and exciting wines that can stand up against the very best the world has to offer. It is little wonder then that we highly recommend you take a few days out of your schedule to visit Paso Robles, meet its people and drink more than your fair share of wines. Now where my adventure to Paso Robles differed from my previous jaunts is in the fact that I was in- troduced to its surrounding wine neighbors. With the diminutive Edna Valley to the south and Pismo Beach to the South West, the greater San Luis Obispo region has wine makers that lurk in the shadows of the Paso Robles AVA (American Viticultural Area). This is of course not say that wines from this region are inferior, quite the opposite in fact. I toured wineries and did private tastings with a few wines and was pleasantly surprised by the complexity and finish these wines possess. Another tiny area that was introduced to me while in Paso was the area known locally as Tin City. Set into a small corner of an industrial complex on the fringes of Paso Robles, Tin City is a collection of micro wine makers that instead of following a traditional process, they threw the entire wine making book away, burned it and started over. New ideas, new wines and exciting times are happening in Tin City. With wine makers having literally one barrel of a select varietal, Tin City is an experiment in renegade wines. Having spent an evening with a few people, it is a very exciting place to be and experience. So the next time you visit Paso Robles, don’t forget that there is more to the region than can be found on Highway 46.

It is perfect as a daily drinking wine.

Tempranillo in Paso, how delightful. Joe Barton of Barton Family wines has cultivated the Spanish grape into submission with his E Street wine. Certainly a unique taste that you will want to share with other wine drinkers of a more sophisticated palate.

here comes a time in one’s life when you want to branch out. Sure the staid and daily routine of normalcy is comforting. Following in the footsteps of his dad (James Sinegal, the co-founder and one time CEO of Costco), David learned business on a dynamic and large scale. He, over his lengthy tenure at the shopping giant, oversaw the purchasing and the need for structure and discipline to maintain not only a competitive advantage, but a sane life as well. However, like most people in the midst of their success, he yearned for something more, something different. Based in the cool and oft showery climate of Seattle, Costco is not ideally located for

Started in 1999, the Gumball 3000 Rally is an annual luxury automotive road trip taking place every year and travelling a different 3000 mile route each time. This year the rally starts in Dubin, then continues to Ed- inburgh, London, Europa Park, Prague, Budapest, and finally ending in Burcharest. Driving through capital cities in front of hundreds of thousands of fans and photogra- phers as Gumball shuts down famous landmarks in each city where spectacular static car displays are hosted and documented by the world’s press, it is hard not to feel like a celebrity. Checking into the most exclusive hotels before you’re whisked off to one of the infamous Gumball parties, also helps further the luxury agenda of the rally. The rally begins this year on April 30 and goes to May 7th.
