Student Stories

I was truly blessed to have “been given such a huge opportunity to start my career right after I finished my internship in my final year of studies, which was just a few weeks after returning home from my semester in Wales in the UK. The Professional Communication programme at IUMW was impactful in that it prepared me for the real world - I am definitely practicing what I learned there, and in particular the additional skills I learned during my semester at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.

I’m now a Graphic Designer cum Business Strategist. I love my job! It allows me to unleash my creativity every day and gain new knowledge from a variety of perspectives.

I will cherish every moment at IUMW, but one of my favourite times was when my classmates and I decided to hold a thrifting event, ‘Conscious Clothing’, in an effort to reduce fast fashion pollution for our Communication Campaign subject. It was a huge success and I love how everyone worked so well with each other!” Mas Shahira Binti Aminuddin Bachelor of Professional Communication (Honours) 26

Student Stories (cont.)

I learned some important things during my time at University! First, self- “discipline; to be independent with each and every task I was given! Second, not to be afraid to be cheeky! There is no point in hesitating in asking questions about things you don’t understand. Thus, entering the lecturer’s office was more like a daily routine for me! Now that I have graduated, I will focus on working in the banking and finance industry so that I can get work experience, then I will prepare myself for the Chartered Financial Analyst programme, which my major has really prepared me for!

There were so many memorable moments from my time at IUMW. One of my favorite moments was participating in the volleyball competition for the Sportacular Week. My teammates and I had the best time playing in the rain and I hadn’t felt so good in such a long time! Apart from that, some of the best times I had were laughing with my classmates and lecturers in-between lessons. These memories will never be forgotten.” Phang Wei Le Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Finance

After completing my three year course and industrial training in this field, “it taught and prepared me to understand human behavior and cognitive psychology really well. Dealing with people can be challenging, but with the knowledge and skills I learned at IUMW, I know I am prepared for my future career. This major also allowed me to make my own decisions, giving me the space to grow and learn from my own mistakes; I have developed strong faith in my own abilities.

I could not have asked for more during classes at IUMW. I love my classmates, they were so supportive! Being with them made me truly grateful, and I cherish every moment with them. We are family! They will make amazing psychologists!” Nur Syahirah Zaini Zainal SH Zaini Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychology 27

The Biotechnology programme at IUMW has equipped me for my transition “into the real world with the integration of comprehensive scientific knowledge and hands-on exposure to a whole range of disciplines including research and development, quality control and lots more. Life at IUMW also taught me to be independent, step out of my comfort zone and the importance of complementing and supporting one another to succeed. I’m looking forward to attaining work experience in the life science industry, as well as pursuing my postgraduate education.

My favourite moments at IUMW have to be all of the small accomplishments and the recognition I received for the work I did, be it lecturers’ compliments, receiving my academic excellence award or even handing in my thesis in the final year as the final sprint towards graduation!” Nivedha A/P Vijia Kumar Bachelor of Science (Honours) Biotechnology

My foundation year was definitely one of my best years at university. I“ had the opportunity to interact with not just my classmates but all the foundation students from my entire cohort, through the various interactive and engaging assignments in the subjects provided. As a student from the Foundation in Science programme, a fun experience was also the lab sessions at the University of Malaya laboratories with my classmates. All in all, my foundation year in IUMW definitely had me well prepared for my undergraduate journey!” Raja Rajeswary Foundation in Science 28
