LIST OF OFFICERS, ROYAL ARMY MEDICAL CORPS, TO PROCEED ABROAD DURING THE COMING TROOPING SEASON. IT is notified for general information that the officers named in the following list will be required to proceed to the Oommands specified during the coming tr~lOping season. Definite orders will be issued through the usual channels, and probable dates of emLarkatiol1 will be notified as soon as possible. Officers of the same rank ordered http://militaryhealth.bmj.com/ to different foreign stations may, by mutual arrangement, have their stations altered; but it must be clearly understood that, while the Director-General is anxious to meet officers' wishes, it is not always possible to give effect to them. Applications for alteration of station or for exchanges of position on the roster for service abroad should be submitted as early as possible; they cannot be considered if received after the formal orders have been issued for officers to be held in readiness for service abroad, owing to the serious inconvenience caused. Officers proceeding to India who may be desirous of being posted to any particular Division may name any three Divisions in the Army to which they are detailed, in order of priority of choice, and every effort will be made in India to meet their wishes. Owing to unforeseen reductions in the numbe) of officers to be relieved, a smaller number than that published in the OORPS NEWS of April, 1908, will be needed, and officers whose names do not appear in this list will not be required, except in the case of further vacancies occurring.

NOTES FROM I.LDERSHOT.-Captain J. D. G. Macpherson, R.A.11:.C., writes: "Football Season, 1907 .~.-As the Royal Army Medical Corps Football Team in Alder shot has been so successful during the past season, an account of its doings will, no doubt, be of interest to all ranks of the Corps. The club entered for the Army Cup, . Senior Military League, Senior Hampshire Cup, and were selected as one of the best teams in Aldershot to compete for the Charity Cup. In the Army Cup Competition we were extremely unfortunate in not being able to put anything like our full strength in the field, owing to five of our players being ruled ineligible by the Army Football Asso. ciation. As the res~lt, w~ had to put practi.cally a: reserve team in the field, and got beaten by ·the ScottIsh RIfles-after extra tIme .bem~ played-by 2 goals (one penalty) to 1 goal. As our full team had beaten the ScottIsh RIfles by 3 goals to nil a short time previously in .the Senior Military League Competition, and later on in the season in Protected by copyright. the same competition, beat them again by 3 goals to 1, it can be imagined that the result of the Army Cup tie created a feeling of disappointment throughout the entire Corps. Next season we hope to have a good chance of winning this much.coveted trophy, as the team was considered by good judges to be one of the best, if not the best team in the Army during last season. It was with very mixed feelings that members of the Corps watched the final for the Army Cup, knowing full well that we had a team quite capable of more than extending either of the finalists. In the Senior Military League Competition we beat all comers, including the Royal Irish Rifles, who in the Army Cup Competition only succumbed to the ultimate winners, the 4th Battalion The King's Royal >Rifle Corps, by 1 goal to nil. In this Competition all the football regiments stationed in Aldershot are met twice, and during the competition not a single reverse was recorded by our team. We reached the semi·final of the Senior Hampshire Cup, being beaten by Southampton, in a gale of wind and torrents of rain, by 1 goal to nil. In the Charity Cup we reached the final, and after two games were unable to come
to a definite result with the Farnborough Football Club, so with them we are joint http://militaryhealth.bmj.com/ holders of the Cup for the season. The Boys at the Depot have a splendid team, and won the Cup presented by the Boys' Realm. This Cup was competed for by all the regiments in Aldershot, and was won with the greatest ease by the Royal Army Medical Corps Boys, who scored in all 105 goals to 16 during the season, and were never defeated. A Reserve team was run for the first time, and proved a. great success, giving exercise and amusement >to many, and being an excellent training ground for players likely to be of use to the Corps team. Corps football in Aldershot is in a very flourishing condition thanks to the interest taken in it by everyone, but more specially to Lieutenant and Quartermaster Painton, Serjeant.Major Deans, Staff.Serjeant Coggon, Serjeant S. T. Smith, and the Committee, who have all worked in an untiring and disinterested 'manner for the good of the Club. The following are the results of the various matches" ;-

" The South African Medical Congress assembled at Pretoria during the second week'in October, 1907. Papers were read by Majors J. M. Buist and J. C. B. Statham. We entered for the Junior Pretoria League and were successful till we were seriously handicapped by losing our two best bowlers through illness, which kept them out of the field for the latter part of the season. Major J. M. Buist captained the side and Lieutenants Thompson, Potts and Littlejohns played throughout the season. The members of the Royal Army Medical Corps team were the backbone of the Staff and Departments team. Privates R. Brown and G. Crosby bowled consistently on September 27, 2021 by guest. well, backed up by Privates F. H. Cook and W. O. Warner; the latter should develop into a good all-round cricketer. Fielding was a weak point with the exception of Private Mars, who set an example which, it is hoped, mOle will follow. Lieutenant Thompson represented the Garrison on several occasions and finished the season with a batting average of 48'2. "Football.-The eleven was not up to the average strength of recent years, owing to the return to England of most of the old players, but there is every reason to hope that next year there will be a marked improvement. REGISTER FOR INDIAN SERVANTS. http://militaryhealth.bmj.com/ FEW officers on going to India have not experienced the' difficulty of getting good servants. The discomforts on arrival and of a long journey up 'country, unprovided with a bearer, or, what is worse, provided with a hastily selected man, taken haphazard from the crowd of indifferent or bad characters who congregate in Bombay, have fallen to the lot of most of us, whilst the period of trial and vexation until a proper staff of servan ts is secured is familiar to us all. In our Corps, with regular annual reliefs, it should not be difficult to arrange for an interchange. Officers leaving India would then be able to provide places for the good and tried retainers they are relinquishing, and new arrivals would, by taking on these men, be spared many of the worries and troubles which now befall them. Further, good servants would not be lost to the Corps, and the prospects of continuous employ ment could not fail to have attraction for the better class of men. With these ends in view, officers due home from India are requested to communicate to the Journal particulars of servants whom they can recommend, so that officers on September 27, 2021 by guest. going out in relief may have an opportunity of securing these men. The particulars required are ;- - (1) Class of servant. (2) Whether for bachelor or married officer. (3) District or station to which he belongs. (4) Any special recommendations. NOTE.-Tbe date the officer leaves India should also be stated, and when and where the servant will be available. J R Army Med Corps: first published as 10.1136/jramc-10-06-22 on 1 June 1908.
