Y mae’n dilyn dyffryn rhewlifol, dwfn sy’n canlyn ffawt daearegol, ac y mae ganddi orlifdiroedd sylweddol ac aber helaeth. Ceir yn ei blaenau ymdeimlad cryf o gyfyngu gan dir uwch, yn enwedig llethrau coediog, serth Eryri yn y gorllewin, o ble mae sawl nant yn byrlymu i lawr ceunentydd. Erbyn ei rhan ganol, fodd bynnag, mae’n ymddolennu’n dawel heibio i ddolydd gleision, gan gynnwys ystâd enwog Bodnant, sydd a’i gerddi’n denu ymwelwyr lawer. Mae ei haber yn wahanol eto, yn brysur â chychod, gyda thref hanesyddol Conwy a’i chastell trawiadol Eingl-normanaidd (Safle treftadaeth y Byd) yn y gorllewin, a thref fwy cyfoes Deganwy yn y dwyrain. Er yn cynnwys trefi Conwy a Llanrwst, a sawl pentref mawr a mân, cymeriad gwledig iawn sydd i’r fro hon. Mae’r gwrychoedd trwchus y dolydd gleision a chefndir trawiadol y mynyddoedd yn cyfuno yn ddelwedd gymharol ddiddos, ddarluniadwy. © Crown copyright and database rights 2013 Ordnance Survey 100019741 www.naturalresources .wales NLCA07 Conwy Valley - Page 1 of 9 Summary description This is the valley of Wales’ longest tidal river, whose valley effectively forms the border between the north-east and the north-west of Wales. It follows a deep, fault-guided, glacial valley and contains significant flood plain and estuary areas. The upper (southern-most) section has a strong sense of containment by rising land, especially from the steep wooded slopes of Snowdonia to the west, from which a number of small rivers issue down tumbling gorges.

ISLE OF ANGLESEY COUNTY COUNCIL Report to Executive Committee Date 14.1.2013 Subject Consultation draft Preferred Strategy Document Portfolio Holder(s) Cllr. Robert Ll. Hughes Lead Officer(s) Jim Woodcock Contact Officer Nia H Davies 01286 679890 Nature and reason for reporting To request that the Committee endorses the draft Preferred Strategy document prior to its release for consideration and approval by the Council on the 24th January 2013. A - Introduction / Background / Issues The Preferred Strategy is a vital stage in the long journey to prepare the Local Development Plan (LDP) with Gwynedd. The Strategy has been drawn-up following a number of opportunities for full participation by Ynys Mon Councillors At this stage the Council is being asked to adopt the Strategy for the purposes of public consultation. Views expressed during the public consultation period will help inform the preparation of a more detailed plan called the Deposit Plan which will set out the strategy, including strategic policies, as well as detailed planning policies. The Deposit Plan is due to be considered by Council later on in 2013. Introduction The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 requires the Council to prepare a Local Development Plan (LDP) for the development and use of land over the plan period and its policies to implement them. This Council has decided to work with Gwynedd Council to prepare a Joint LDP. Regulation 15 of the Local Development Plan Regulations requires that, before finally determining the content of its Local Development Plan (LDP) for deposit, a Council must publish its pre-deposit proposals for public inspection and comment.

  • 4.0 the Llŷn Peninsula – a Special Place!
4.0 THE LLŶN PENINSULA – A SPECIAL PLACE! 4.1 Introduction 4.1.1 The Llŷn Peninsula was one of the first areas in Britain to be designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty back in 1956. To the present day, there are only five AONBs in Wales - the others are Anglesey, Clwydian Range, Gower Peninsula and Wye Valley. 4.1.2 The main basis for designating part of the area as an AONB in 1956 was the natural beauty of the landscape and coast, wide-ranging views and the undeveloped nature of the area. These features continue to make the area special, but for the purposes of the Management Plan, it is important to attempt to make a more detailed analysis of the area’s special features and define all of its qualities. 4.1.3 When we refer to “qualities”, this is a reference to the feature or element of the area’s character that is special, unique or “valued”. After identifying and defining the special qualities, we can proceed to measure the size and condition of these features (and the resources that are part of them), including measuring what changes have occurred over time and continue to happen. 4.1.4 Some of the area’s qualities will continue to be relatively unchanged, such as the beautiful landscape and varying coastline as they are based on the area's geology and vegetation. However, in the case of some qualities there has been some deterioration over time, such as a reduction in the size and quality of habitats, wildlife and historical buildings.

MEETING Llŷn AONB Joint Advisory Committee DATE 17th July 2018 TITLE Projects PURPOSE Update Members AUTHOR Llŷn AONB Projects Officer RECOMENDATION Accept the Information 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 This report provides information to the members for the AONB Service’s recent projects. 2.0 REVIEW INTO COMMON LANDS 2.1 This research project was recognised in the last Management Plan. Numerous Common Lands are located within the AONB and they are a characteristic of the area. However, there was not much up to date information about them and it seemed that there were many misconceptions in terms of their ownership and the entitlements relating to them. 2.2 The AONB Service commissioned a local company, Madryn Cyf to research into the background and history of these Common Lands, establish the regulations, asses their condition and their contribution to biodiversity. The research also assesses the current use of these areas and looks at various options for their future. 3.0 INVASIVE SPECIES 3.1 An action to recognise and treat invasive species has been recognised in the reviewed Management Plan. In this financial year, the AONB Service are working with NRW to eradicate Giant Hogweed which grows on the banks of Afon Soch in the Llandegwning area. 3.2 The Giant Hogweed originates from South Russia and Georgia and can grow up to 10 feet in height. It was imported to Britain during the 19th Century to be grown in the gardens of country houses etc. The plant is invasive and its sap can be very harmful to people as it burns the skin.
