Born in 1885, he was employed as a farm labourer and later as a clerk at the Parc and Croesor Slate Quarry. He became a lecturer with the Workers Educational Association and was also a popular radio broadcaster. His interests lay in local history and Welsh genealogy. He collected manuscripts as well as books, and transcribed parish records. Although an advocate of the study of local history, his own topics of research were far reaching. He was an authority on the history of the Welsh in America in particular. The obituary of Bob Owen Croesor in The Times reads : It is a mistake to look upon Bob Owen as a mere Welsh book-lover, and an obsessed collector of Welsh books; a perusal of his shelves proved him a true cosmopolitan with its ancient catalogues, bygone price lists, and the basic apparatus of classification schemes. Far from being a clannish Celt, he opened his windows wide to the world. He wielded many, and very variegated weapons of research. He was the most scientific genealogist of our generation in Wales. He was a contributor to various periodicals, journals and newspapers. He had a popular series of articles in Y Cymro on the subject of the homes of the Welsh, Cartrefi Cymru. Amongst his publications are Cymru ac addysg America (1957-1958) and Diwydiannau coll : ardal y ddwy afon, Dwyryd a Glaslyn (1943). Natur a chynnwys | Scope and content The collection consists of manuscript material created by Bob Owen, Croesor as well as manuscript material collected by him. -- The work of Bob Owen Croesor consists of essays composed for entry in Eisteddfod competitions. These cover a variety of subjects which touch upon local history, Welsh history and Welsh literature e.g. the history of the harp in Wales; emigration from Wales to London; the famous people of Llanfrothen, Merionethshire; the history of the Presaddfed estate, Anglesey; to list but a few. There are also essay notes and lecture notes for Workers Educational Association (WEA) classes, notes made of sermons and notes for radio talks for BBC Radio Cymru. -- The numerous letters written by Bob Owen to various correspondents reveal the extent of his knowledge of books and periodicals and Welsh literature - they are full of unique phrases and colloquialisms. A great majority of letters are addressed to Thomas Richards, Librarian of the University College of North Wales. Bob Owen writes of his work in collecting his library, and also of such matters as the war, politics, local history and historical research, Eisteddfodau, BBC radio talks, WEA lectures and Welsh emigration to America. -- The collection consists of numerous transcripts made by Bob Owen of parish records and Bishops Transcripts. The records which have been copied cover the following parishes : Betws Gwerful Goch, Dolgellau, Ffestiniog, Llanbedr, Llandanwg, Llandecwyn, Llandrillo-yn-Edeirnion, Llandderfel, Llanddwywe, Llanelltud, Llanenddwyn, Llanfihangel-y-traethau, Tal-y-llyn, Trawsfynydd, Tywyn all in Merionethshire and Aberdaron, Bodfean, Botwnnog, Bryncroes, Cricieth, Dolwyddelan, Llandygwnning, Llangwnnadl, Llaniestyn, Mellteyrn, Penmachno, Treflys in Caernarfonshire and Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr in Denbighshire. -- There are miscellaneous items such as note books and photographs. Items supplied by Bob Owen to the Countryside Exhibits at the Royal Show, Wolverhampton, 1937 as Organiser under the Caernarfonshire Rural Community Council. Also, papers regarding the case between Bob Owen and Crowe's of Wrexham in 1924 regarding the sale of An elegy wrote in a country church yard by Thomas Gray at Sotheby's.-- The manuscript material collected by Bob Owen for his library covers a wide range of topics. The poetical manuscripts date as far back as the late 17th century and were composed by many bards e.g. Robin Ddu, Wiliam Phylip, Rhys Goch Eryri, Dafydd Ddu Eryri, Sion Cawrdaf to name but a few. The other literary manuscripts take the form of note books and letters e.g. a scrap book compiled by Myrddin Fardd. -- Material of a religious nature includes the accounts of the C.M. Chapel in Bala, Merionethshire, 1855-1862 and of Dwyran C.M. Chapel, Anglesey, 1815-1821. -- There are diaries and biographies such as the diaries of Evan Evans of Plas Llandecwyn, Merionethshire, 1846-1847, and a tour of north Wales, 1830 and a guide to Snowdon from Beddgelert in 1845 by Thomas Jones. -- The letters collected by Bob Owen have been divided under the following headings : letters of musicians, letters of famous people, Anglesey matters (from the papers of R.H. Thomas, Pentraeth), letters to Rev. D.D. Williams. -- The miscellaneous material includes the accounts of a boatman, the note book of an excise officer, the vestry book, 1830 and other records of Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr parish, litigation papers regarding the Hendwr estate, Merionethshire and records relating to enclosures and land drainage, roads and transport.     A WELSH CLASSICAL DICTIONARY DACHUN, saint of Bodmin. See s.n. Credan. He has been wrongly identified with an Irish saint Dagan in LBS II.281, 285. G.H.Doble seems to have been misled in the same way (The Saints of Cornwall, IV. 156). DAGAN or DANOG, abbot of Llancarfan. He appears as Danoc in one of the ‘Llancarfan Charters’ appended to the Life of St.Cadog (§62 in VSB p.130). Here he is a clerical witness with Sulien (presumably abbot) and king Morgan [ab Athrwys]. He appears as abbot of Llancarfan in five charters in the Book of Llandaf, where he is called Danoc abbas Carbani Uallis (BLD 179c), and Dagan(us) abbas Carbani Uallis (BLD 158, 175, 186b, 195). In these five charters he is contemporary with bishop Berthwyn and Ithel ap Morgan, king of Glywysing. He succeeded Sulien as abbot and was succeeded by Paul. See Trans.Cym., 1948 pp.291-2, (but ignore the dates), and compare Wendy Davies, LlCh p.55 where Danog and Dagan are distinguished. Wendy Davies dates the BLD charters c.A.D.722 to 740 (ibid., pp.102 - 114). DALLDAF ail CUNIN COF. (Legendary). He is included in the tale of ‘Culhwch and Olwen’ as one of the warriors of Arthur's Court: Dalldaf eil Kimin Cof (WM 460, RM 106). In a triad (TYP no.73) he is called Dalldaf eil Cunyn Cof, one of the ‘Three Peers’ of Arthur's Court. In another triad (TYP no.41) we are told that Fferlas (Grey Fetlock), the horse of Dalldaf eil Cunin Cof, was one of the ‘Three Lovers' Horses’ (or perhaps ‘Beloved Horses’).

These areas have similar characteristics and have strong community links. The work on the Zones of Influence draws on a wide range of surveys and related national, regional and local plans and strategies discussed in the Spatial Development Strategy Background Paper. The persistence of cusped windbracing in the upper hall/solar space and the cross -passage are the su rvivals of the late medieval open hall tradition. Similarly, the corbelling out of the first floor chimney is an early diagnostic feature among this type of building. Lower service and stable/byre additions of the late C17/early C18 were added to the rear and to the NE respectively. Lower service wing to rear, with squat end chimney. Mortising evidence for former post -and panel screens (section of screen stored in adjoining byre). Flat. stopped-chamfered bressummer to wide fireplace in former hall (to R) an d chamfered main beams visible in ground floor rooms. The first -floor hall/solar is still partly open to the (4 bay) roof, the remainder is visible in the attic; this is of 3 bays with fine collar -and-raking -strut trusses, two tiers of cusped windbraces a nd original purlins and rafters; original projecting oak trenails.

The National Park Authority receives about 500-600 planning applications each year, and the revised LDP will provide the foundation for determining each planning application that we receive. This LDP’s predecessor (Eryri LDP 2007-2022) had performed well against targets, and its Strategy was considered to be effective or ‘sound’. In view of this, and following consultation with relevant stakeholders, the Authority decided that a ‘short form revision’ was therefore considered appropriate. In simple terms, this basically means limited changes have been proposed to the revised LDP and the overall strategy for the revised LDP 2016-2031 remains the same as the previous LDP. There have been some important legislative changes in Wales over recent years, with the creation of the Planning (Wales) Act 2015, Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015, and the Environment (Wales) Act 2016. These legislations have helped shape the content of this revised LDP. It has helped how we use both our land and other natural resources – both of which are essential for us to achieve the well-being of a sustainable Wales.

    Background Paper 13: Community Infrastructure 13 February Gwynedd & Môn Joint Local Development Plan 2015 [Type text] Topic Paper 13: Infrastructure Background This is one of a range of topic papers prepared to offer more detailed information and explain the approach of the Plan to different topics and issues affecting the Joint Local Development Plan Area. This paper will look specifically at community infrastructure. It will explain the background which will help to identify the issues, objectives and options for the Deposit Plan. The Deposit Plan is the second statutory stage in the preparation of the Joint Local Development Plan (JLDP). The JLDP shapes the future growth of communities in the Joint Local Development Plan Area and will set out the policies and land allocations against which planning applications will be assessed. The Deposit Plan will be submitted to the Welsh Government, which will appoint an independent inspector to assess the soundness of the Plan in the Examination in Public. If the inspector considers the Plan to be sound it will be recommended for adoption. When adopted the JLDP will supersede the Gwynedd Unitary Development Plan (2009) for the Gwynedd Local Planning Authority Area and the Gwynedd Structure Plan (1993) and Ynys Môn Local Plan (1996) for the Ynys Môn Local Planning Authority. This topic paper can be read in isolation or in conjunction with the other Topic Papers and Background Papers that have been prepared to give a full picture the Joint Local Development Plan Area. You may refer to the Topic Paper as a basis for making comments about the Deposit Plan.

    4.0 THE LLŶN PENINSULA – A SPECIAL PLACE! 4.1 Introduction 4.1.1 The Llŷn Peninsula was one of the first areas in Britain to be designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty back in 1956. To the present day, there are only five AONBs in Wales - the others are Anglesey, Clwydian Range, Gower Peninsula and Wye Valley. 4.1.2 The main basis for designating part of the area as an AONB in 1956 was the natural beauty of the landscape and coast, wide-ranging views and the undeveloped nature of the area. These features continue to make the area special, but for the purposes of the Management Plan, it is important to attempt to make a more detailed analysis of the area’s special features and define all of its qualities. 4.1.3 When we refer to “qualities”, this is a reference to the feature or element of the area’s character that is special, unique or “valued”. After identifying and defining the special qualities, we can proceed to measure the size and condition of these features (and the resources that are part of them), including measuring what changes have occurred over time and continue to happen. 4.1.4 Some of the area’s qualities will continue to be relatively unchanged, such as the beautiful landscape and varying coastline as they are based on the area's geology and vegetation. However, in the case of some qualities there has been some deterioration over time, such as a reduction in the size and quality of habitats, wildlife and historical buildings.
