Situated about 4- 6 miles out from the mainland, Barnegat Light, NJ is an 18-mile long situated on the northern tip of Long Beach Island. Although Barnegat Light has more than 20 separate communities, there are only about 20,000 year- round residents. Both Beach Haven and Barnegat Light were developed as resort towns, other areas remained simply a place to relax and enjoy the ocean.

Barnegat Light remains the premier spot in for quiet relaxation by the ocean. Since it is only a quarter mile wide, visitors are close to both the sea and the bay. Only one town on the island has an amusement area, and there is no boardwalk. The State Park is a popular destination for climbing the lighthouse, picnicking and fishing. Barnegat Light features beautiful spacious beaches, excellent surf fishing, bay fishing and crabbing. There are also several recreation areas available, including tennis courts, a skate park, dog park and basketball court.

Boating and fishing is a popular activity among residents and tourists, and there are several options for fishing and boating enthisiasts. Party boats go out daily for deep sea fishing, charter boats are available for small groups to hire and daily boat liveries for daily rentals to solo fishing in the bay.

Also located in Baregat Light is a museum that was formerly a one-room schoolhouse, and it has many items on display including the original lens from the Barnegat Lighthouse. There are several restaurants and ice cream parlors, as well as antique and gift shops. Viking Village is one of the largest working commercial fishing docks in New Jersey.
