For Diploma Institutes GUJARAT TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY AHMEDABAD 1st YOUTH FESTIVAL ( DIPLOMA – INTER ZONAL ) “XITIJ – 2012” ( CELEBRATING AS GREEN YOUTH FESTIVAL) On 22nd – 24th SEPTEMBER, 2012 ORGANISED AT TOLANI F. G. POLYTECHNIC ADIPUR (KACHCHH) Report of GTU 1st Youth Festival (Diploma – Inter Zonal) “XITIJ – 2012” Gujarat Technological University’s first interzonal youth festival “XITIJ-2012” was hosted by Tolani Foundation Gandhidham Polytechnic, Adipur-Kachchh during 22-24 September 2012. It was a privilege for the host institute – a pioneer of technical education in Kachchh that celebrated its golden jubilee last year and has been the recipient of ISTE Best Student Chapter Award a number of times - to be the first host for the interzonal state-level event. The three-day event had participation from 16 colleges and around 300 participants. There were 23 competitions in 5 categories -Theatre, Music, Dance, Literature and Fine Arts. However, owing to limited participation in 6 of these competitions, winners were declared for 17 competitions. (Results in Annexure 1). To create awareness about this event, a pre-event press conference was held by host institute Tolani FG Polytechnic (Adipur) in its premises on 17th Sep. 2012. Divya Bhaskar – 19 Sep. 2012. Katchmitra – 19 September 2012. Organizing Chairman and Principal N. G. Hiranandani briefed the press about the event and expressed that it is a matter of pride for the institute to host such a grand event and that he looks forward to setting a precedent since it is the first youth festival for diploma students. Prof. K. Venkateshwarlu (Organizing Secretary and Head of Applied Mechanics at the host institute ) informed the press representatives that Green Revolution theme will be launched during the festival. He also informed that there will be 23 competitions in 5 categories and the participation has been encouraging. The conference was attended by the representatives of as many as 9 media organizations: Aaj Tak Mr. Girish Joshi TV-9 Mr. Hiren Soni V-TV Mr. Naran Maheshwari The Gujarat Samachar Mr. Harshil Mehta The Sandesh Mr. Jaydeep Purohit The Divya Bhaskar Mr. Jayesh Shah The Jansatta Ms. Jayshree Mehta The Kutchmitra Mr. Adwait Anjariya Mr. Uday Antani The Aaj Kaal Mr. Nidhiresh Raval Mr. Rajnikant Kotadiya While planning the schedule of competitions, the organizing team was cautious to avoid time-clashes. (Schedule in Annexure 2). It was fortunate to have expert and renowned judges for all the events. (List of Judges in Annexure 3). Confidentiality of the results was strictly maintained. No competition results were declared before the valedictory session. The competitions were held at three different venues. Day–1 : 22nd September 2012 Registration : The festival started with registration and breakfast on 22nd September. All the participants were required to register. Late registrations were allowed on the second day too. The participants were charged Rs. 150/- for registration. Registered participants were given coupons for meals. Inaugural Function: The inaugural functions welcome the participants and declared the three-day event open in the august presence of Mr. Sushant Gaikwad (Head-HR, Adani Group) and Mr. Rajnikant Ghodasara (Adani Group). The function was held on the day-1, 22nd September at 10:00AM. The office- bearers from Gandhidham Collegiate Board (managing the host institute) were present during the function. The function was followed by skit, mime and mimicry. After the lunch, participants contested in classical, folk/tribal dance, elocution, debate and collage. Day-2 : 23 September 2012 The second day of the festival was the day of music and quiz. At one of the venues, music competitions – Classical vocal solo, Light vocal, Group song Indian, folk orchestra, Classical instrumental solo percussion and non- percussion, western vocal solo and western group song - ran from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. On the other venue one-act plays were staged while the third venue managed fine arts competitions – on the spot painting, clay modeling and poster making. Quiz competition was held in two phases. A written test was held to screen the participants and select six teams for the final quiz. The test was held at 9:00 am. The final quiz in four rounds – with one audio visual round – was held from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Day-3 : 24th September 2012 The third day marked the conclusion of XITIJ 2012-13. The competitions on the third day were Rangoli and Cartooning. After these competitions, the valedictory function began at 12:15 pm and concluded at 2:00 pm. Member Secretary of GTU Board of Cultural and Sports Activities Dr. C. S. Sanghvi was the Chief Guest for the valedictory function. He presented his views on the event and commended the arrangements by the host institute. He felicitated the winners and awarded prizes. Based on the overall participation and total winning entries, a category winner was announced in each category. Additionally, the event winner and the event runner-up prizes were announced too. These were institutional prizes. Certificates and shields were distributed in the valedictory function. -: WINNERS :- Campion : 653-Tolani F. G. Polytechnic Runners Up : 644-B. S. In addition, the winning participants received a certificate of achievement. Three winners in each contest received a shield. As was reflected in the feedback from participants, the event was a success. Accommodation was arranged by the host institute on payment basis. All the participants were asked to show their willingness for accommodation. Most of the participants were offered accommodation on the campus. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were served on the venue during the days of the festival. Divya Bhaskar – 25 Sep. 2012. On show was an eight-colour Rapida 145 complete with perfecting unit for 4-over-4 production and LED- UV dryers to enable immediate further processing. Pictures (from top, left) show Dirk Winkler, head of printing process technology at Koenig & Bauer in Radebeul describing the print jobs in detail before the practical demonstration began, the print samples being subjected to close scrutiny during the demonstrations, and the reel sheeter in action at the maximum press speed of 15000 sheets per hour. The Rapida 145 perfector is perhaps an ideal means of production for both long runs and jobs requiring only 250 sheets.
