Yasser Qashlaq, the Lebanese Flotilla Organizer, Claims the Ships Will Soon Set Sail for the Gaza Strip Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center July 25, 2010 Yasser Qashlaq, the Lebanese flotilla organizer, claims the ships will soon set sail for the Gaza Strip. Syria and Hezbollah are involved. Considering Qashlaq's anti-Semitic stance and links to terrorism, he apparently wants a violent confrontation (possibly contrary to the wishes of many of the passengers). The Nagi al-Ali (Julia) anchored in the port of Tripoli (LBC, June 29, 2010). 1. Yasser Qashlaq, chairman of the Free Palestine Movement and organizer of the Lebanese flotilla to the Gaza Strip, said the ships would leave within a few days. Qashlaq asked Lebanese politicians not to make difficulties, but rather to cooperate so the flotilla might succeed (DayPress news website, July 20, 2010). His previous declarations about its sailing were not realized, but nevertheless it is possible that this time the ships will set sail, despite a large number of international objections. 202-10 2 2. The current situation of the flotilla is as follows: A. The ship called Maryam reached Tripoli and is currently participating in the routine processes required by law before a ship set sail. Rima Farah, ship spokesperson, said that contacts had been made with a number of countries to acquire authorization for the ship to be received at their harbors, because it cannot sail directly from Lebanon to the port of Gaza. Samar al-Hajj, coordinator for the organizing committee, is the director of the ship's logistic activities. Note: The ship will carry only women passengers (Al-Diyar website, July 21, 2010). B. The ship called Nagi al-Ali (formerly Julia) is ready to set sail, and according to the organizers all that remains to be done is to load the cargo. Most of the passengers will apparently be correspondents. C. The organizers may have another ship, but they are not divulging any information about it. 3. Yasser Qashlaq said he did not rule out the possibility that Israel would try to halt the flotilla because "there is no limit to the crimes of the entity of the occupation." He also said that there would be peace activists aboard the ships and that the cargos would include humanitarian equipment, and that any attempt to stop them would be "a terrorist action" (DayPress news website, July 20, 2010). 4. In our assessment, the ships were purchased and the flotilla organized with the involvement and support of Syria and Hezbollah, although both do not want to expose their roles and use organizations like the Free Palestine Movement as fronts for their activities. 5. Qashlaq revealed his position in an interview with Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV on June 19, 2010. He said that "the day will come when the ships [which arrive at the Gaza Strip] will take the remainder of the European garbage which came to my country [i.e., Israel] back to their homelands, Gilad Shalit will return to Paris and they [the leaders of Israel will return to Poland. Let the murderers go home. After they return we will pursue them everywhere all over the world and try them in court for the slaughters they have carried out from Dir Yassin to this day." 6. Considering the stated positions of Qashlaq and some of those involved in the flotilla, and especially their close ties with Syria and Hezbollah, he apparently wants a violent confrontation between the passengers and the Israeli Air Force and Navy with a lot of media coverage. His intention is to defame Israel, even if his agenda is not necessarily that of the other passengers aboard the ships. 3 7. More proof that this flotilla, like that of the Mavi Marmara, is meant mainly to create a media circus and incite anti-Israeli propaganda, and not to bring humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip was made public by an Al-Jazeera TV investigative report. 8. The Al-Jazeera TV's Gaza Strip correspondent, revealed that the Gazans responsible for the ministry of health of the de facto Hamas administration were resentful because 70% of the medicines which arrived in the Gaza Strip from the aid convoys from various countries, especially Arab countries, could not be used. They were either unfit for use or their expiry dates had passed by months and sometimes years. They said that one of the convoys had brought dialysis machines which could not be used. The report was also quoted by a daily paper affiliated with the de facto Hamas administration (Al-Jazeera TV, July 20, 2010). Left: Useless dialysis machines. Right: Drugs whose expiry dates have passed (Al-Jazeera TV, July 20, 2010). .

Overview This past week events focused on the relaunching of the direct talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority in Washington. According to media reports, both sides agreed their objective was to formulate a "framework agreement" within a year which would define the principles of a resolution for the conflict and the establishment of a Palestinian state. George Mitchell, the American envoy to the Middle East, said that Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas had also agreed to meet in the Middle East on September 14 and 15, and that they would continue meeting every two weeks. The opening session was accompanied by shootin g attacks carried out by Hamas and targeting Israeli vehicles in Judea and Samaria: An attack southeast of Hebron killed four Israeli civilians. In another shooting attack in eastern Samaria two Israeli civilians were wounded. A shooting attack northeast of Ramallah did not result in casualties. Responsibility for the attacks, which were intended to disrupt 248-10 the relaunching of the talks, was claimed by Hamas, which also threatened to maintain a dialogue with Israel "with guns." 2 Important Terrorist Events Shooting Attacks in Judea and Samaria On the evening of August 31 an Israeli vehicle was shot at near the Bani Naim junction southeast of Kiryat Arba in Judea. The four Israeli civilians in the car were killed.

  • Behind the Boycott
Promoters of BDS—the movement to boycott, divest from, and bring sanctions against the Jewish state of Israel—are open about their aim of pressuring Israel to relinquish land for a Palestinian state. What they less often share is that a two- state solution—Israel and Palestine living side-by-side in peace—is not their goal. THE ORIGINS OF THE ISRAEL BOYCOTT ven before the State of Israel was officially declared in 1948, with the endorsement of the EUN and backed by the immediate recognition of U.S. President Harry Truman, Arabs in British Mandatory Palestine and throughout the region declared war against the Jews. They sought to kill as many as possible, drive the rest out of the country, and end the Jewish state. That era of belligerency lasted over 30 years before Israel and its chief antagonist, Egypt, signed a peace accord in 1979. When it became clear that war could not defeat Israel, those seeking to bring Israel to its knees shifted tactics, and the Palestinian Intifada was born. It came in two waves of terror, running from 1987 to 1993 and then from 2000 to 2005. These surges were premised on the idea that Jews were foreign colonizers who, like European imperialists in the Third World, could be driven out by making the cost of staying higher than the colonizers could bear. But the Palestinians learned during their terror campaigns that the threat of physical harm would not end the Jewish state, because the Jews knew that they belonged in Israel. Next came the current stage in the long-running campaign against Israel—the movement to boycott, divest from, and bring sanctions against Israel, or “BDS” for short.

  • Free Palestine Movement (FPM)
The Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center April 11, 2011 A UN committee grants accreditation to the anti-Israeli pro-Hamas Free Palestine Movement (FPM). The FPM is headed by Paul Larudee, an active participant in organizing flotillas to the Gaza Strip, including the upgraded one scheduled for May 2011. The letterhead from the UN committee accrediting the FPM. The FPM's new logo, boasting that is it is now an NGO accredited by the UN. קל 70-11 2 Overview 1. In August 2010 the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People granted accreditation to the Free Palestine Movement (FPM), an extreme leftist network based in California which participates in anti- Israeli projects, focusing on sending flotillas to the Gaza Strip. Its objectives are to support the de facto Hamas administration in the Gaza Strip, isolate Israel, blacken Israel's image in the eyes of the world and increase international pressure on it. 2. The FPM is headed by Dr. Paul Larudee, who in 2009 was given an award by Ismail Haniya, head of the de facto administration in the Gaza Strip, in honor of his support. Paul Larudee applied for and received accreditation from the UN committee as an NGO member of the "network of civil society organizations active on the question of Palestine." 3. Following the receipt of accreditation, the FPM added "A United Nations Accredited NGO" to its letterhead. In our assessment, the FPM regards the accreditation as a kind of UN stamp of approval for itself and its anti-Israeli projects, particularly the flotillas (Wolfgang Grieger, the committee secretary, ended the letter by wishing the FPM "every success in [its] endeavours in support of a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the question of Palestine.") Profile of the FPM and its leader, Paul Larudee 4.

  • An Anti-Israel Coalition, Some of Whose Members Organized the Mavi Marmara Flotilla, Were Encouraged by Its Results
The Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center September 6, 2010 An anti-Israel coalition, some of whose members organized the Mavi Marmara flotilla, were encouraged by its results. It is currently promoting a new series of projects to embarrass and isolate Israel. They include an upgraded flotilla and a plane to the Gaza Strip. עיקרי המסמך A Facebook invitation to a Free Palestine Movement fundraiser for a series of new anti-Israel projects. The organization is affiliated with the Free Gaza Movement, which played a major role in the Mavi Marmara flotilla in close collaboration with the Turkish IHH, and which is an important factor in new projects planned against Israel. 227-10 2 Overview 1. Accumulated information indicates that the anti-Israel coalition behind the Mavi Marmara flotilla to the Gaza Strip has spent the past three months promoting plans for new projects as part of a general campaign to smear Israel and erode its legitimacy. The projects include sending an upgraded flotilla (with more ships, more activists, more media personnel and more celebrities) and sending a plane to the Gaza Strip. All of the above are meant to raise the action threshold. 2. The anti-Israel coalition is ideologically heterogeneous, united by its hostility to Israel and desire to challenge and embarrass it to promote what it represents as "the rights of the Palestinians." In reality, it often promotes Hamas' political agenda in opposition to the interests of the Palestinian Authority. 3. At the coalition's ideological poles are, on the one hand, radical Islamic organizations and activists.

  • Demilitarization of Militias in Post-IS Syria Student Officer
Dhirubhai Ambani International Model United Nations 2019 Forum: GA1 – Disarmament and International Security Issue: Demilitarization of militias in post-IS Syria Student Officer: Ishaan Goel Position: Deputy Chair Introduction The Syrian Civil War is arguably the worst civil conflict of the century, having drawn on for the past eight years. Almost 400,000 people have been killed and millions more have been displaced from their homes, either into other nations or to other regions within Syria itself. The conflict has several participants, ranging from the Syrian people themselves to foreign military personnel. However, the most notable belligerents have been the independent militias, formed in large numbers during the course of the war. The oldest of these are the anti-government rebel forces and pro-government militias, which have existed as long as the War itself. Till 2014, however, their numbers were limited. The formation and brutal rise of ISIL in 2014, along with the establishment of its theocratic caliphate, led to the rise of several reactionary groups to counter it. Some of them were even formed with foreign aid from nations such as the USA, Russia, Iran and Turkey. A large number of Arab tribes in Syria too formed their own militias. These militias all had one common objective – eradicating ISIL – but otherwise, they had little to nothing in common, often fighting amongst each other. After the defeat of the last stronghold of ISIL in early 2019, the issue of demilitarization of these militias has come to the forefront. With ISIL now almost completely vanquished, the militias are pursuing their individual interests in the Syrian Civil War.

  • Free Gaza Movement: Anti-Israel Boat Campaign Challenges Israel's "Siege of Gaza"
Free Gaza Movement: Anti-Israel Boat Campaign Challenges Israel's "Siege of Gaza" INTRODUCTION The latest in a series of efforts by anti-Israel activists to "break the siege" on Gaza has resulted in failure. The Freedom Flotilla II, an international coalition of groups seeking to send several ships to Gaza, were not permitted to leave the Greek port from where they intended to sail with a few hundred activists. The second flotilla was intended to be a sequel to the May 2010 flotilla that tried to sail to Gaza but was intercepted by the Israeli Navy. The 2010 and 2011 flotillas were both organized by the Cyprus-based Free Gaza Movement (FGM), a wide variety of pro-Palestinian European organizations and Insani Yardim Vakfi (IHH), a pro-Hamas Turkish charity. Since August 2008, FGM had sent several boats to Gaza under the guise of delivering humanitarian aid. Their missions have consistently sought to provoke confrontation with the Israeli military, in turn creating widespread propaganda value for organizers, who have used the international attention they receive to present their one-sided and biased views of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. FGM's mission, as stated on its Web site, is to elicit international opposition to Israel's policies: "We want to break the siege of Gaza. We want to raise international awareness about the prison-like closure of the Gaza Strip and pressure the international community to review its sanctions policy and end its support for continued Israeli occupation." In the year leading up to the first mission and in the months that followed, organizers criticized Israel's founding, propagated messages about Israel's brutality and recommended international sanctions against Israel.
