Takeshobo has released three volumes in Japan. The manga is licensed in North America by Vertical. The manga chronicles the misadventures of two 14-year-old girls named Popuko and Pipimi, who face different both mundane and strange situations and react to them in an equally strange and exaggerated way. The manga is marked by its frequent parodies of pop culture and a combination of surrealism, absurdity and neo-culture that contributed to its development of the cult among both Japanese and Western audiences. An anime adaptation of the television series, animated by Kamikaze Dowga and produced by King Records, aired between January and March 2018; two more episodes aired in April 2019. Episode 12 used classic music by Night on Bald Mountain and Dies Irae in its storyline. The opening theme of the first half special is Wesak's last brilliance, while the second half uses the opening theme, Pretty Candle Star Drop Stars (Ogura, Minase and Wesaka) in the first part and Shunsuke Itakura and Toru Adachi of the AC team in the second part. The song's insertion and ending themes for the first half are Popuko ni Sauce (ポプ⼦にソ, Lit. Sauce for Popuko) and Fusen Hiko (⾵船⾶⾏, lit. Balloon Flight), respectively; both sing Popuko (Yuka Ozaki/Kent Ito) and Pipimi (Aya Uchida/Ryuichi Kijima). Inserting the song for the second half of Bansaku neender, performed by Ozaki /Uchida and Ito/Kijima duets, with Shouta Aoi singing their version of the ending theme of Fesen Hiko (⾵船⾶⾏, lit. The festival begins in Cardiff at Chapter Arts on the evening of Friday, September 29th with a screening of Masaaki Yuasa’s film The Night is Short, Walk on Girl (2017), a charming romantic romp featuring a love-sick student chasing a girl through the streets of Kyoto, encountering magic and weird situations as he does so. Festival head, Eiko Ishii Meredith will be on hand to host the opening ceremony and a party to celebrate the start of the festival which will last until October 01st and include a diverse array of films from near-future tales Napping Princess (2017) to the internationally famous mega-hit Your Name (2016).
