The Manhattan Transfer Ore 20.45 con la collaborazione del Comune di Treviso hanno il piacere di presentare un evento unico in una data unica The Manhattan Transfer Ore 20.45 Teatro Comunale di Treviso 30 APRILE 2015 BASILICO TREDICI, in occasione del suo quinto anno di attività, celebrando l’apertura di una nuova fase del suo percorso gastronomico-culturale, ha deciso di organizzare, in collaborazione con il Comune di Treviso e grazie al gentile supporto di Teatri Spa, un evento unico in una data straordinaria : il 30 Aprile prossimo, ovvero la giornata internazionale del Jazz dell’UNESCO. L’UNESCO ha proclamato questa giornata tre anni fa con l’intento di celebrare la forza di della musica jazz come simbolo di unione, pace e dialogo tra i popoli. Da quando la data è stata istituita, ogni 30 Aprile, tutte le grandi città del mondo celebrano la musica Jazz con vari concerti e, per il secondo anno, Treviso potrà annoverarsi tra le città parte del circuito mondiale dell’ International Jazz Day. Dopo il grande successo del 2014 , ottenuto grazie all’indimenticabile concerto di Kenny Barron & Dave Holland, quest’anno dal palco del Teatro Comunale di Treviso si esibirà in esclusiva un gruppo che dal 1998 fa parte della Vocal Group Hall of Fame nonché vincitore di vari grammy’s : Manhanattan Transfer per le prima volta a Treviso UN EVENTO IMMANCABILE THE MANHATTAN TRANSFER – BIO Il nome del gruppo deriva dal titolo del romanzo Manhattan Transfer pubblicato nel 1925 dallo scrittore americano John Dos Passos e dedicato alla New York degli anni venti, durante la cosiddetta era del jazz. Il primo album del gruppo, del 1971, si intitolò Jukin' e fu un discreto successo. Qualche settimana dopo, Hauser incontrò ad un party Janis Siegel (Brooklyn, New York 1952) e, sebbene lei facesse parte di un altro gruppo musicale, la convinse ad entrare a far parte del suo. Dopo qualche tempo, Hauser conobbe il talento artistico di Alan Paul (Newark, New Jersey 23 novembre 1949), in quel periodo tra i protagonisti a Broadway del celebre musical Grease. Quando Alan Paul accettò di far parte del gruppo di Hauser, I Manhattan Transfer erano finalmente una band vera. La band inizialmente si occupò prevalentemente di riproporre classici del jazz degli anni 40. La loro cover del 1977 di Chanson d'amour, arrivò al primo posto nel Regno Unito. La scalata al successo iniziò con l'album del 1975 The Manhattan Transfer, anche se fu un successo soprattutto europeo. I successivi album Coming Out (1976), Pastiche (1978) e The Manhattan Transfer Live (1978) ottennero ancora un buon successo. Nel 1978 Laurel Massè ebbe un gravissimo incidente stradale e decise di lasciare il gruppo (successivamente avrebbe ricominciato a cantare, ottenendo un buon successo da solista). La Massè fu sostituita dalla voce di Cheryl Bentyne (1954), di Seattle. Nel 1979, con l'album Extension, il gruppo raggiunse il definitivo successo, ribadito dal successivo Mecca for Moderns del 1981. Un approccio più jazzistico si rivelò in Bodies and Souls del 1983 e fu ancora più marcato nei due lavori successivi, Vocalese e Bop Doo Wopp del 1985. Vocalese fu candidato ai Grammy Awards in ben 12 categorie, primato superato solo da Thriller di Michael Jackson. Del 1987 fu l'album Brasil che ebbe un successo mondiale di grande rilevanza. Nel 1992, il gruppo tentò una revisione del proprio stile con l'album The Offbeat Of Avenues. Sono seguiti, poi, numerosi album live, raccolte ed alcuni successi come Tonin' del 1995, Swing del 1997 e, soprattutto, Vibrate del 2004. Perché International Jazz Day? Jazz abbatte le barriere e crea opportunità per la comprensione reciproca e la tolleranza; Jazz è un mezzo della libertà di espressione; Jazz è un simbolo di unità e di pace; Jazz riduce le tensioni tra individui, gruppi e comunità; Jazz promuove la parità di genere; Jazz rafforza il ruolo dei giovani per il cambiamento sociale; Jazz incoraggia l'innovazione artistica, l'improvvisazione, nuove forme di espressione, e l'inclusione di forme di musica tradizionale in quelli nuove; Jazz stimola il dialogo interculturale e consente ai giovani di società emarginate di emergere. BASILICO TREDICI oltre ad essere diventato un punto di riferimento gastronomico per la città di Treviso vuole essere molto di più e precisamente intende cercare la fusioni di espressioni culturali solo apparentemente diverse : dalla pittura alla fotografia, dal ciBo alla musica ed in particolare al jazz.     Strengthening the importance of music in our life and culture since 1940 N E W S L E T T E R Fall 2018 National Music Council NMC Director Dr. David Sanders hosted Honors Jazz Legends the event, and praised the honorees for setting an extraordinary standard for Chick Corea and The ongoing contribution to American Manhattan Transfer at musical culture and heritage, and for serving as mentors and role models to 35th Annual American aspiring jazz artists. The evening Eagle Awards opened with a performance by the Nashville School of the Arts jazz ensemble Swing Thing under the direction of James Satterwhite, who reminded the audience of why access to music education for all students is so vital. Nashville Singer/Songwriter Dianne Davidson performed an emotional musical tribute to The Manhattan Transfer before presenting TMT members Janis Siegel, Alan Paul, and Cheryl Bentyne with the first award. A finales de los años cuarenta y principios de los cincuenta, Roy Haynes tuvo la clase de aprendizaje que constituiría el sueño de cualquier músico actual: sentarse en el puesto de baterista y acompañar al gran Charlie Parker. Ahora, cincuenta años después, y tras haber tocado con todos los grandes del jazz: Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, o Bud Powell, todavía coloca sus grabaciones en la cima de las listas de las revistas especializadas en jazz. Este veterano baterista, comenzó su andadura profesional en las bigbands de Frankie Newton y Louis Russell (1945-1947) y el siguiente paso fue tocar entre 1947 y 1949 con el maestro el saxo tenor, Lester Young. Entre 1949 y 1952, formo parte del quinteto de Charlie Parker y desde ese privilegiado taburete vio pasar a las grandes figuras del bebop y aprender de ellas. Participó en la dirección de la Banda Sonora Original de la película "Bird" dirigida por Clint Eastwood en 1988 y todavía hoy en activo, Roy Haynes, es una autentica bomba dentro de un escenario como pudimos personalmente comprobar en uno de sus últimos conciertos celebrados en España y mas concretamente en Sevilla en el año 2000. En 1994, Roy Haynes recibió el premio Danish Jazzpar, que se concede en Dinamarca.

COMING OF AGE AT JAZZFEAST A Former Prodigy Jonathan Russell at Returns To Princeton JazzFeast in 2006 onathan Russell began to play the violin at age three and was the slain Wall Street Journal reporter and violinist Daniel Pearl. Jalready performing with trad jazz ensembles in New York City Now 22 and a newly minted college grad, Jonathan returned to clubs by age seven. At nine he played the New Orleans Jazz & Princeton JazzFeast on Sepember 19, this time a leader in his own Heritage Festival and two years later made his first appearance at right, and performed an impressive 10-song set with guitarist Vinny JazzFeast, sitting in with Ed Polcer’s group (inset photo).
