On February 18, 2014, The University of Louisville Cultural Center presented me with the Black Image Award for the Best Cultural Program at the University of Louisville in 2013 for the UofL 50th Anniversary Commemoration of the March on Washington program that I proposed to CODRE and chaired the committee that planned the event.

Kentuckiana Metroversity Award for Instructional Development (Fall 2001). My submission titled “Political Discourse: Rhetoric of the Civil Rights Movement” was selected as one of four winning proposals for instructional design in Fall 2001. The award included a plaque and a cash award of $1000.00. The proposal outlines a methodology for integrating the practice and study of political

discourse with the study of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States from 1954-1965.

Served on a panel discussion for a Diversity Workshop on Creating an Inclusive Teaching Environment on Wednesday, February 9, 2011.

Serve on the Advisory Committee in the College of Human Development and Education Minority Teacher Recruitment Project 2014-2015.

Serve as a collaborator with the Jefferson County Public Schools (Suzanne Wright and Rick Daniel) on the introduction to their curricula of materials, events, resources commemorating the Civil Rights Movement in the United States in 2014 and 2015.

A feature article I wrote for the Louisville Courier-Journal on the Civil Rights Movement in Louisville, KY, tiled “The Struggle for Human Equality” is being used by the Social Studies classes throughout the Jefferson County Public Schools in 2014-2015.

58. I solicited funding in the amount of $4,600 from various units at UofL including Political Science to pay for the honorarium and expenses for Attorney Julius Chambers to come to UofL to give a public lecture titled “Reflections on Brown v. Board of Education.” (Spring 2004).

59. I created a collage of events surrounding the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education for the department at the request of the department chairperson. I also set up a viewing of videos showcasing the Brown display for viewing in the lobby of Ford Hall. The display included a large banner with the heading, “Department of Political Science Commemorates the 50th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education.”(Spring 2004).

60. The Black Faculty Affairs Committee of the University of Louisville Black Faculty/Staff Association (BFSA) asked me to be a participant in an exhibition they were creating featuring the triumphs, achievements, and lessons learned by faculty of color, who integrated or attended newly integrated schools during and after the Brown decision as part of the university’s year-long celebration of the Brown landmark decision. I was asked to do several things: write an essay titled “Brown, Person County, and Me,” I was asked to provide pictures from grade school and other memorabilia, and lastly to be photographed for a current picture to be included as part of the exhibit. (Spring and Summer 2004).

On September 8, 2006, I served as a panel discussant at the annual convention of the Louisville chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. A visual exhibit titled “Reflections on Brown v. Board of Education” which showcased several faculty from UofL including myself was on display at the meeting. I delivered a presentation on redistricting and how it has furthered segregation the American landscape by race.
