Supernatural insight and special input from Above. “If the answer doesn’t come from above what I can say?” Padre Carmelo, superior of the convent, asked Padre Pio for advice about a situation he was going through. Padre Pio answered that he would pray. Days later he asked again and got the same answer. Padre Carmelo was surprised that he had to wait so long for an answer. Padre Pio: “My son, if the answer doesn’t come from above what I can say?”1 “If nobody up there says something, what answer can I give?” Padre Eusebio Notte asked Padre Pio why he couldn’t say to him something about a future event he had asked for. Padre Pio: “If nobody up there says something, what answer can I give?”2 “I know that I know but still you have to tell me your sins” In confession a person was so nervous that couldn’t say a word. Finally he said: “Padre, you know all.” Padre Pio: “I know that I know but you have to tell me your sins.”3 New babies “The baby was born yesterday.” Padre John Saint John, chaplain in the Fifteenth Army Force, wrote that one day Padre Pio asked him if he knew a certain sergeant. He said he didn’t know him. Padre Pio: “Well, he is in the Second Bomb Group. Tell him that the baby was born yesterday and the wife and baby are doing fine.” Padre John drove to the squadron indicated and found the sergeant. He asked him if he knew Padre Pio. The sergeant said that he had never heard of him. Padre John: “Padre Pio told me to tell you that your baby was born yesterday.” The sergeant turned pale. Two days later he was notified by the Red Cross that his baby has been born.4 “He is the doctor who delivered my baby.” Vincenzo Martini was called from the hospital to go there immediately. His wife was about to give birth to their second child. A decision needed to be made: either to save the life of the child or that of the mother. Vincenzo opted in favor of the wife. While in the act of signing the papers a doctor came out saying: “Congratulations, you are the father of an eight pound boy!” 1 Iase06, 78 2 Iase06, 78 3 Iase06, 48 4 Ruf91, 263 2 Vincenzo run to his wife. She said that a doctor in a brown habit had delivered her baby. No such a doctor was found in the hospital. Finally Vincenzo remembered Padre Pio and showed his picture to his wife. The wife said: “He is the doctor who delivered my baby.”5 “Call him Pio” Kneeling while Padre Pio was passing in the hallway, a man told him: "Father, My wife is expecting. What name should we give to the boy?" "Call him Pio". The man replied: "And if it is a girl?" "Call him Pio", insisted Padre Pio. It was a boy.6 7 8 Two years later the same man made a similar request, and Padre Pio said: “Call him Francesco.” It was also a boy. 9 “Neither the mother nor the child will die.” Filippo De Capua’s wife pregnancy was not going well, and the specialists in Napoli and Foggia had said that either the mother or the child will die at delivery. Filippo asked Padre Pio for prayers. Padre Pio said: “Neither the mother nor the child will die.” The days passed and Filippo started doubting. He asked Padre Costantino to remind Padre Pio about his wife. Padre Pio: “Tell him that if something happens, it will be as a result of his lack of faith. It is not yet written in the decrees of God. But if something happens, it will be for his lack of faith.” Things went well just as Padre Pio had said.10 Food All that bread Padre Raffaele testified that during WWII in 1941at lunch time there was no bread for the ten religious and the fifteen poor at the table. “We started eating the soup. Padre Pio was still praying in the choir. All of a sudden Padre Pio entered the refectory holding fresh bread, enough for everybody. When we asked him where he got all that bread, he answered: “A woman from Bologna came to the front door and gave it to me.” Padre Raffaele concluded: “Nobody said a word. Everybody understood.” 11 “Dig five meters from here, and you will find all the water you need.” During the building of the convent and church of the Holy Family in Pietrelcina, the builders had shortage of water. They decided to ask Padre Pio for help. At that time Padre Pio was in San Giovanni Rotondo. He was shown the blueprint of the construction site. He placed his finger on a spot and said: “Dig five meters from here, and you will find all the water you 5 Gau74, 196-7 6 Win88, 128 7 Cat91, 55 8 Del50, 44-5 9 Pas68, 89 10 Cap06, 184-5 11 Positio 1, 1, 882 3 need.” They did, and the abundant water was used for building, but also for the needs of the town.12 “This is my first miracle for the day!” Fra Modestino, showed Padre Pio a bottle of local wine that he had just bought in town, and asked him to bless it. Padre Pio did the blessing, and then with a broad smile said: “Well, this is my first miracle for the day!” Fra Modestino did not understand why Padre Pio had said that. He shared the wine with others. It was excellent. Not long after, Fra Modestino learned that the wine maker had been jailed for making fake wine from powders, not grapes.13 “That apple comes from Rodi” Maria Rosa Valente from Rodi Garganico gave a very nice apple to Padre Vincenzo da Montemarano, asking him to give it to Padre Pio. Padre Vincenzo went to Padre Pio, but before he could say a word, Padre Pio said: “That apple comes from Rodi.”14 “How did the ones that you ate on the train taste?” Silvio Scocca was on a train with a bag of candies that he intended to give to Padre Pio. He became hungry and opened the bag, and ate some of the candies. When he gave the bag to Padre Pio, he said: “How did the ones that you ate on the train taste?” “Go and prepare the food for my sick.” On February 1958 Laurino Costa sent a telegram to Padre Pio: "Pray for me to find a job." He received a telegram back: “Come to San Giovanni Rotondo at once.” On the 4th he met Padre Pio for the first time: “Laurino, I see you have arrived. You will feed my sick.” “But Padre, Laurino protested, I’ve never cooked an egg in my life.” Padre Pio insisted: “Go and prepare the food for my sick. I’ll always be near you.” Laurino went to Casa Sollievo and was told at the door: “You must be the experienced cook we’ve been waiting for.” Laurino reported years later: “It was a frightening sight.

LXIV NO. 23 Colorado’s Largest Weekly 28 PAGES 25 CENTS Individual Confession Bishops asked to avoid abuses of generai absolution By Agostino Bono VATICAN CITY (NC) - Pope John Paul II has told U.S. bishops to promote greater individual Confession and to avoid abuses of general absolution. The sacrament of Penance is in crisis in many parts of the world because of “unwarranted interpretations’’ of the requirements for general absolution, he told a group of U.S. bishops May 31. The renewal process envisioned by the Second Vati can Council requires “the practice of integral and individual Confession of sins,’’ he added. The Pope said national bishops’ conferences must continuously promote better understanding of the re quirements for general absolution contained in canon law, the church’s legal code. “Sporadic efforts are not enough to overcome the crisis,’’ he said. Not criticizing U.S. One U.S. bishop who attended the papal meeting said the Pope was not criticizing U.S. practices but reiterating general principles. “I welcomed it," said Archbishop Thomas C. Kelly of Louisville, Ky. “It was encouragement to foster the sacrament of Penance.” The Pope spoke to 20 bishops from Louisiana, Ken tucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama and the Archdiocese for the Military Services. They were at the Vatican for their “ad limina ” Photo by Mark Beede visits, required of diocesan heads every five years to Charity Chase report on the status of their dioceses. • A Treasury of Atonement
A Treasury of Atonement A Collection of Quotations from Approved Sources The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure. -- Deuteronomy 28:12 Who has known the mind of the Lord? – Rom. 11:34 Introduction 1. St. Gertrude 2. Louis of Blois 3. St. Therese of Lisieux 4. Peter d'Airelle, Jacinta Marto and Rose Ferron 5. Sister Josefa Menendez 6. St. Faustina Kowalska 7. Anselmo del Alamo 8. Padre Pio 9. Sister Maria Concepcion Zuniga 10. Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Introduction HRIST Our Lord said: “Therefore every scribe who is instructed unto Cthe kingdom of heaven, is like unto a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.” This is a short collec- tion of quotations from the vast treasure house of the church, about suffering, reparation, atonement, and the cross. No matter how much you have read, you can always find something new. Christ said that he would make all things new, (Apoc. 21:5) that he would establish a new covenant, and put new wine into new bottles. We have now arrived at the newest, the most recent, the last, and perhaps the best, period of human history. “Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.” 1. St. Gertrude ERTRUDE, a holy virgin most dear to God, was once divinely taught Gthat one who is considering in his heart the image of the Crucified, ought to think he hears Jesus Christ Himself saying to him, with a gentle voice, “Behold, thou seest how for love of thee I hung upon the cross, naked, despised, My whole Body wounded, and every limb stretched.

“you must be thirsty for your brothers’ health” CATECHESIS FOR PADRE PIO’S PRAYER GROUPS by Father Luciano Lotti November IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE TO ANNOUNCE THE KINGDOM OF GOD Deuteuronomy (5,22-32) These are the commandments the Lord proclaimed in a loud voice to your whole assembly there on the mountain from out of the fire, the cloud and the deep darkness; and he added nothing more. Then he wrote them on two stone tablets and gave them to me. When you heard the voice out of the darkness, while the mountain was ablaze with fire, all the leaders of your tribes and your elders came to me. And you said, “The Lord our God has shown us his glory and his majesty, and we have heard his voice from the fire. Today we have seen that a person can live even if God speaks with them. But now, why should we die? This great fire will consume us, and we will die if we hear the voice of the Lord our God any longer. For what mortal has ever heard the voice of the living God speaking out of fire, as we have, and survived? Go near and listen to all that the Lord our God says. Then tell us whatever the Lord our God tells you. We will listen and obey.” The Lord heard you when you spoke to me, and the Lord said to me, “I have heard what this people said to you. Everything they said was good. Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever! “Go, tell them to return to their tents.

  • Novena to Padre Pio
NOVENA TO PADRE PIO 1st DAY LOVE FOR JESUS From the Letter to the Romans (8: 35-39) What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword? ... In all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, not life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. From the Writings of Padre Pio May the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete, enlighten us ever more about the immensity of the eternal inheritance to which we have been destined by the goodness of our Heavenly Father. As our spirit enters this mystery, our soul distances itself from earthly things, and we become desirous of entering our heavenly homeland. (Letters II) Reflection Prayer Loving Saint Pio, you loved Jesus with an ardent and burning love. You manifested this love by your detachment from worldly pleasures, your great love for “sister poverty” which was your true treasure. Through the humiliations you endured silently, grant that we may walk in the light of Divine Grace, that we may come to eternal salvation, and help make us worthy of the name “Christian” we bear. Glory be to the Father ... 2nd DAY ABANDONMENT AND CONFIDENCE IN GOD From the Gospel according to Matthew (8: 5-10) When he entered Capernaum, a centurion approached Jesus and appealed to him, saying, „Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully‟.

  • Bishops in Medjugorje and About Medjugorje in 2001
Bishops in Medjugorje and About Medjugorje in 2001 MAY 2001 Msgr. José Antúnez de Mayolo, Bishop from the Archdiocese of Ayacucho (Peru) From May 13 to 16, 2001, Msgr. José Antúnez de Mayolo, a Salesian Bishop from the Archdiocese of Ayacucho in Peru, came for a private visit to Medjugorje. “This is a beautiful shrine where I find much faith, where I find faithful who live their faith, faithful who come for confession. I was hearing the confessions of Spanish pilgrims. I participated in Eucharistic celebrations and I liked everything very, very much. It is really very beautiful here. It is right that Medjugorje is called a place of prayer for the whole world and ‘the confessional of the world’. I have been to Lourdes, but it is a very different reality. They cannot be compared. They are two different realities. In Lourdes, the event is closed, but here everything is still developing. Here, faith can be felt in a much stronger way than in Lourdes. Medjugorje is still quite unknown in Peru, but I promise to become an apostle of Medjugorje in my country. The faith is strong and alive here, and this is what attracts so many pilgrims from the whole world. I should like to tell them to have a strong love for the Blessed Virgin Mary. Let them love her mightily, because she is our Mother and she is always with us. This is why those who live and work here have to love her, but also priests who come from abroad. Pilgrims who come here have already started their spiritual journey towards the Blessed Virgin Mary, and they already have faith.
