Teresa of Jesus (Teresa of Avila) founds the monastery of San José in Medina del Campo on August 15th, 1567. This is the second house of Carmelo and a meeting point with Saint John of the Cross, where the universal nature of the reforming work of the Carmelite Order will emerge. For then on, the relationship between Teresa and Medina will be constant during her life. A proof of that are the 13 visits which she makes to the town dealing with several issues of the new religious community.
