However there are many other aspects of our work. Of course there isn’t anything to do in the winter? Don’t you believe it! Our aim is an all year round team for an all year round town. Friday Jun 24th Maya Plass – “200 years on the seashore” As a highly successful marine ecologist, Maya is well-known here in Devon for her educational courses for children “Learn to Sea” and workshops for adults around our coastal waters. She has worked on international projects including in Argentina and is a regular guest presenter on “Spring Watch” as well as BBC “Coast”, while also appearing on ITV’s “Hungry Sailors”. Her talk relates to our changing relationships with the seashore over the centuries focusing on the importance of conservation. Friday Jul 22nd Roger Barrett – “The Salcombe Lifeboat Disaster” 2016 is the centenary of this tragic Lifeboat disaster. To mark the occasion, Roger Barrett (Curator of Salcombe Lifeboat Museum and Chairman of Salcombe Museum Society) has researched and just published his book on the subject. He will be telling us the story of that fateful day in October 1916 when thirteen lifeboat men lost their lives. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Speaker Secretary Jane Gray is stepping down as Speaker Secretary at the AGM after five years in the role. She has done a fantastic job always finding such excellent and interesting speakers. We are delighted that someone has come forward to take over from her and they will be introduced at the AGM Your ideas and suggestions for future speakers are always welcome, please let the speaker secretary know. We have recently purchased a new projector and speaker system for use at the monthly meetings. We hope this will improve the quality of the presentations and enhance the sound.
