OSJMUN Special Committee OSJMUN Special Committee Issue : Marvel Universe vs Dc Universe !1 Forum: Special Committee Issue: Marvel vs Dc Student Officer: Teoman Yonar Thanos -a villian whose aim was to balance the universe by erasing half of it- was able to collect and equip all six of the Infinity Stones (Space, Time, Reality, Mind, Soul, Power) and he reached the ultimate power he was craving for. He used the power of the Infinity Stones to reach his goal of balancing the universe. However, The Avengers were not willing to let him do it. They defeated Thanos, but before Iron Man took his life, he had managed to flee to another dimension by using the powers of Infinity Stones. That’s how it all started… Thanos was in Metropolis, the home of Superman and Thanos’ surprise visit made Superman furious. Superman took Thanos as a prisoner but the Avengers were in search of Thanos . Therefore, they used a portal created by Doctor Strange to transport themselves to Metropolis only to see Thanos who had already been captured by Superman. So they wanted to take Thanos to their own universe, but Superman did not want to give him back. Both sides wanted to terminate the problem and decide Thanos’ fate by forming a committee. Injected with an experimental super-serum, Rogers emerged from the treatment with heightened endurance, strength, and reaction time. With extensive training and an indestructible Vibranium shield, Rogers soon became the country's ultimate weapon. He was in ice during a climactic battle towards the end of the war. Rogers was discovered and revived decades later. Now the living legend continues the war against evil in modern times as a member of The Avengers. His powers and abilities are at high level. He has physical condition with heightened strength and he is a skilled military leader and equipped with virtually indestructible Vibranium shield. -Thor: Thor's strength, endurance are greater than his Asgardian brothers. Hulk's powers and abilities which are incredible superhuman strength, durability, and healing factor; become more powerful as anger increases. Banner possesses a genius-level intellect and is an expert in multiple scientific fields, particularly in the studies of physics & radiation. -Black Panther: Monarch of the secluded but technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda, King TChalla is the Black Panther; a sacred title that must be both inherited and gained by the current Wakandan ruler. After losing his beloved Uncle Ben, grief- stricken Peter vowed to use his incredible abilities to protect his city as the Amazing Spider-Man. Peter’s trials taught him an invaluable lesson: with great power, there must also come great responsibility. Spider-Man's powers and abilities: He has superhuman strength, agility, endurance, ability to stick to and climb walls and other surfaces and he uses self-designed web-shooters allowing him to fire and swing from sticky webs. -Scarlet Witch: Notably powerful, Wanda Maximoff has fought both against and with the Avengers, attempting to improve her abilities and do what she believes is right to help the world. -Captain Marvel: Carol is guided by a strong sense of duty and honor. Carol brings the heroes together as an official team and ensures they're prepared for the challenges ahead. TEAM DC -Superman: Superman has everything; strength, speed, flight, invulnerability as well as his renowned X-ray and heat vision. Being the most powerful being on the planet, his amazing abilities are also a melancholic reminder of how different he is from the people he’s dedicated to protect. Superman means different things to many diverse people he inspires: He’s an alien; an immigrant from a faraway land just looking to help; a country boy fighting the never-ending battle for truth and justice. And recent comics have truly spotlighted his role as the people’s hero. -Batman: Millionaire Bruce Wayne was just a kid when he watched his parents get gunned down during a mugging in Gotham City. The crime would define his life, as he dedicated himself to become the world’s greatest weapon against crime—the Batman. Forget his Batarangs, Batmobile, or Utility Belt filled with high-tech weapons! Batman is the most scary superhero of all, because he’s pushed himself to the absolute pinnacle of human achievement. He’s a brilliant detective who’s mastered fighting techniques. An Olympic- caliber athlete with a plan for every occasion, Batman’s always five steps ahead of his foes. But in his crusade against injustice, two questions always loom: How far will he go to protect the innocent and will he sacrifice his humanity along the way? -Green Lantern: Being a Green Lantern means facing your fears, and for Hal Jordan, that is something he’s been avoiding throughout his life. When he was a boy, Hal witnessed his greatest nightmare—his pilot father died in a tragic plane crash. Nevertheless, determined to follow his footsteps, Hal repressed his fears, became a reckless, defiant test pilot. But when a dying alien crashed on Earth, the irresponsible Hal was chosen to be that alien’s successor in the Green Lantern Corps. And his life only gets wilder from there. He can fly and create constructions made of pure energy, generating anything from massive green fists to emerald rifles that can snipe from a planet away. But while Hal tends to ignore his fears, he’ll learn the only way to master his ring’s power by confronting and overcoming them. -Aquaman: Being cast out from Atlantis as a baby, Arthur Curry grew up on land, considering himself a normal human. But when he matured, Atlantis returned claiming himself as their rightful king. Aquaman is the king of aqua. He can breathe underwater, swim at tremendous speeds, and telepathically communicate with sea creatures. Being able to withstand ocean depths, he gets bonus points on land with his superhuman strength, enhanced senses, and nearly impenetrable skin. And although his courage and decisive nature have proven him a true heir to Atlantis’ throne, the continual conflict between land and sea makes him a citizen of both. -The Flash: Young Barry Allen’s life stopped the minute his mother was murdered. The true killer was never found, and this mystery made him obsessed, driving him to become a forensic scientist. Consumed by his work, he spent his life chained to his desk, solving every case that flew across it. But when a freak lightning bolt hit a nearby shelf in his lab, Barry received super-speed, becoming the Flash. Then, he would climb up the buildings and travel around the world to get his man—while getting introduced to a world so much bigger than his old life of microscopes and cold cases. He can run up buildings, move so swiftly, create sonic booms with the snap of his fingers. Despite his speed, Barry can become so obsessed with crime-solving.He can still lose track of everything else around him, leaving the fastest man alive constantly running a minute behind.

  • With a Particular Focus on the Saga of Grettir the Strong, Gisfi Surrson's
Volume 3: 2010-2011 ISSN: 2041-6776 School of English Studies With a particular focus on The Saga of Grettir the Strong, Gisfi Surrson’s Saga and Nijar’s Saga, discuss the nature and role of the supernatural in Icelandic saga literature and assess the extent to which it reveals a religious significance. Georgina Georghiou At the end of the Viking Age, the Icelanders developed a literary tradition in the vernacular, Old Icelandic, in which the legendary tales of Iceland’s sogooki (the Saga Age, c. 9E1030 CE) were written.’ Hitherto sustained by the oral tradition (hence the designation saga, from segja, to say, tell’), the tales which constitute the islendrgasogur (Sagas of Icelanders, written between the twelfth and fourteenth centuries) journeyed through phases of Iceland’s cultural evolution, most notably its political movement from the Commonwealth to the Norwegian monarchy in 1262 CE, and its religious conversion from Norse paganism to Christianity under the sovereignty of King Olaf Tryggvason (995-1000 CE). Chronicling events which occurred during and after this cultural whirlwind, the sagas in their present form reflect a mystical synthesis of Norse-pagan and Christian conceptions of the sacred, both of which incited a conviction in the Supernatural’. Despite their differences, they commonly present the Scandinavian world as one which interacts with unworldly beings and forces, and whilst this ‘unworldliness’ has contributed to the modern view that the sagas are ‘pseudo- historical’,5 for the medieval Icelander, they were a record of historical truth. The truth’ invested in the supernatural involves it, inevitably, in sacred matters, and the affiliation between the supernatural and the religious has thus been a highly debated topic among saga scholarship.

Darcy Lewis sat in the driver’s seatReview of an old van full of expensive scientic equipment. She was a college student working with scientist Jane Foster. Another scientist, ForDr. Erik Selvig, sat in the passenger seat. In the back of the van, Jane- opened the roof and climbed onto it. Selvig followed her, and they looked up into the darkness. “So what exactly are we looking for?” Selvig asked. He was a friend of Jane’s father and knew her well. “Why did you ask me to join you here in New Mexico?” “I told youSample. Something strange is happening in the night sky and I need your help,” Jane replied. “It’s a little dierent each time. Once it was a pool of stars in a corner of the sky. But last week it was a rainbow—” A noise from her computer stopped her. “Wait for it!” she said excitedly. Nothing happened. The sky above them stayed calm and black. Darcy put her head out of the window and looked up at Jane. “Can I turn on the radio?” she asked. She sounded bored. “No!” Jane replied angrily. She and Selvig climbed back inside the van. “I don’t understand,” she said. She opened a small book and looked at her notes. She always carried this notebook—inside it was her life’s work. A major critique of the genre is that it simply represents an adolescent male power fantasy; and presents a world view that valorises masculinist individualism.

  • Why No Wonder Woman?
Why No Wonder Woman? A REPORT ON THE HISTORY OF WONDER WOMAN AND A CALL TO ACTION!! Created for Wonder Woman Fans Everywhere Introduction by Jacki Zehner with Report Written by Laura Moore April 15th, 2013 Wonder Woman - p. 2 April 15th, 2013 AN INTRODUCTION AND FRAMING “The destiny of the world is determined less by battles that are lost and won than by the stories it loves and believes in” – Harold Goddard. I believe in the story of Wonder Woman. I always have. Not the literal baby being made from clay story, but the metaphorical one. I believe in a story where a woman is the hero and not the victim. I believe in a story where a woman is strong and not weak. Where a woman can fall in love with a man, but she doesnʼt need a man. Where a woman can stand on her own two feet. And above all else, I believe in a story where a woman has superpowers that she uses to help others, and yes, I believe that a woman can help save the world. “Wonder Woman was created as a distinctly feminist role model whose mission was to bring the Amazon ideals of love, peace, and sexual equality to ʻa world torn by the hatred of men.ʼ”1 While the story of Wonder Woman began back in 1941, I did not discover her until much later, and my introduction didnʼt come at the hands of comic books. Instead, when I was a little girl I used to watch the television show starring Lynda Carter, and the animated television series, Super Friends.

  • CAPTAIN MARVEL # History: the History of the Drug Supplier and Cult Leader Known As the Black Talon Is Currently Unrevealed
BLACK TALON Villain Real Name: Unrevealed. Occupation: Cult leader, drug supplier. Identity: Secret. Legal Status: Citizen of the United States (Puerto Rico) with no criminal record. Other Aliases: The Living Loa, "Chicken-head". Place of Birth: Presumably somewhere in Puerto Rico. Marital Status: Single. Known Relatives: None. Group Affiliation: Head of his own voodoo cult. Base of Operations: A sugar/cocaine plantation in Puerto Rico. First Post-Reboot Appearance: CAPTAIN MARVEL # History: The history of the drug supplier and cult leader known as the Black Talon is currently unrevealed. At some point in the past, he learned the art of voodoo and put that talent to work in raising zombies to work a farm – in reality a Colonial-era plantation he either inherited or acquired – where he grew marijuana and coca plants alongside sugar cane (the plantation's legitimate crop). At the same time, he began a cult of voodoo worshippers who revered him as a "living loa" (the "loa" being the spirits or gods – the line between them is often blurred – invoked by voodoo practitioners.). In time, he became one of the largest suppliers of marijuana and cocaine in the Caribbean, with contacts in Miami, Havana, San Juan, and New Orleans. Black Talon's operations first came into conflict with the current generation of superheroes when a rocket launched by NASA carrying a payload of a powerful nerve gas to be disposed of by being sent into the sun was sabotaged and landed off the coast from his plantation. This brought him into conflict with Captain Marvel, who was under orders from his superior, Colonel Yon-Rogg, to release the nerve gas on a human settlement (see Captain Marvel; Yon-Rogg).
