Bibliografia Canterbury Ridotta

Allan Holdsworth R.I.P. 1946 - 2017
ALLAN HOLDSWORTH R.I.P. 1946 - 2017 Progressive rock and jazz fusion guitar pioneer Allan Holdsworth, who Eddie Van Halen called “the best, in my book,” has died on April 16, 2017 of unknown causes. He was 70. Holdsworth’s daughter Louise confirmed the news on Facebook, saying “it is with heavy hearts that we notify everyone of the passing of our beloved father. We would appreciate privacy and time while we grieve the loss of our dad, grandad, friend and musical genius. We will update close friends and family when service arrangements have been made and will notify the public of an open memorial service, which all would be welcome. We are undeniably still in shock with his unexpected death and cannot begin to put into words the overwhelming sadness we are experiencing. He is missed tremendously.” Holdsworth first appeared on a record in 1969 with the group ‘Igginbottom. After ’70s stints in groundbreaking progressive rock and jazz fusion acts such as Soft Machine, the New Tony Williams Lifetime, Pierre Moerlen’s Gong, Bruford and UK, he released his first official solo album, I.O.U., in 1982. + + + + + Thanks to glasnostrd19 for sharing the show at The Traders’ Den. glasnostrd19 noted: This may be the most widely circulated Holdsworth show out there (other than with UK in 1978)... I don’t know how circulated this is directly from the master tape, and this is probably as good as it’s ever been circulated. I’m pretty sure this is the full show from Reseda. The last song was tacked on the same tape as “filler” (and it is a pretty cool jam and nice audience recording) so I left it in here. -

The Contest Works for Trumpet and Cornet of the Paris Conservatoire, 1835-2000: A Performative and Analytical Study, with a Catalogue Raisonné of the Extant Works Analytical Study: The Contest Works for Trumpet and Cornet of the Paris Conservatoire, 1835-2000: A Study of Instrumental Techniques, Forms and Genres, with a Catalogue Raisonné of the Extant Corpus By Brandon Philip Jones ORCHID ID# 0000-0001-9083-9907 Submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy July 2018 Faculty of Fine Arts and Music The University of Melbourne ABSTRACT The Conservatoire de Paris concours were a consistent source of new literature for the trumpet and cornet from 1835 to 2000. Over this time, professors and composers added over 172 works to the repertoire. Students and professionals have performed many of these pieces, granting long-term popularity to a select group. However, the majority of these works are not well-known. The aim of this study is to provide students, teachers, and performers with a greater ability to access these works. This aim is supported in three ways: performances of under-recorded literature; an analysis of the instrumental techniques, forms and genres used in the corpus; and a catalogue raisonné of all extant contest works. The performative aspect of this project is contained in two compact discs of recordings, as well as a digital video of a live recital. Twenty-six works were recorded; seven are popular works in the genre, and the other nineteen are works that are previously unrecorded. The analytical aspect is in the written thesis; it uses the information obtained in the creation of the catalogue raisonné to provide an overview of the corpus in two vectors. -

Vincent Peirani Vincent Peirani
VINCENT PEIRANI "What this NiceNice----bornborn Parisian teases out of his accordion is somethsomethinging the likes of which world has never heard before. The great French accordion tradition, from Galliano to Matinier, shines through, but he takes it further with a nenenew,ne w, characteristic expressiveness. It is a future vivirtuosortuoso that is playing here!" says the SüddeutscheSüddeutsche Zeitung newspaper. The French accordionist, vocalist and composer Vincent Peirani was born in Nice on 24.4.1980. He started playing the accordion at the age of eleven. One year later he began taking lessons in classical music for clarinet and accordion at the "Conservatoire National de Région" in Nice, and it didn't take long for his gift to start showing. Between 1994 and 1998, as a teenager, he won numenumerorousus international awards and competitions for clasclassisicalcal accordion, including the Klingenthaler Accordion Competition (Germany), the award of the accordion festival in Castelfidardo (Italy), the "Trophée Mondial at Cassino" (Italy) and the international "Reinach" accordion competition (Switzerland). The highlight of these accolades was the first place in the competition for classical accordion at the "Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique" in Paris in 1996. These early successes quickly enabled Vincent Peirani to appear at festivals all around Europe (Bayreuth, Salzburg, Vienna, Rome, Stockholm). At 16 he discovered jazz ––– in particular the music of Bill Evans and the FrencFrenchh jazzjazz----rockrock band "Sixun" ––– and in 2001 he began his formal studies of jazz at tthehe "Conservatoire"Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique" in Paris. Initially he garnered more scepticism than anything else with his instrument, the accordion, and his classical background, but it didn't take long before he won the critics over with a whole new way of looking at the accordion, and made himself a name in France's jazz scene as well. -
