A breakdown of common acronyms and terms used in The Scottish Greens All external material should not use acronyms and instead be as clear as possible. Internally we are trying to shift away from so many acronyms to avoid confusion. However, they are still useful and are explained below. Acronym Stands For Explanation & More Information AGM Annual General Meeting The big annual meeting where the internal voting happens. This usually takes place at our Annual Conference in the autumn. It is open to all members. It makes policies and sets the Party’s rules, on a one-person, one-vote basis, as well as providing a location for seminars, discussions, and social events. For more information contact: [email protected] Co-cos Co-convenor This is the name given to the leaders/chairs of any given representative group or committee. It is usually shared between two or more members. CoC Code of Conduct This is the expected conduct for all members. Breaches of this will be taken up with the Conduct & Complaints Committee (see above). COG Conference Organising Group This is the committee responsible for organising and facilitating the two annual conferences. One in autumn (when we have our AGM) and one in spring. Council The elected group of Gender balance is a constitutional aim of SGP in individuals who work on both committee membership and elected administration, strategy and representatives. Each representative group has planning. their own counil. DG Disabled Greens This is a representative group within the main party for disabled party members. For more information contact: [email protected] EC/E&C Elections and Campaigns This is a committee or Working Group (see below) that helps to facilitate election and campaigns promotion and organisation. The main party has a committee, but repressive groups may also have their own committees to work on internal projects. ECC Elections & Campaigns ECC is responsible for developing the party’s Committee electoral strategy and co-ordinating and running elections and other campaigns to support the electoral and political aims of the Scottish Greens. For more information contact: [email protected] EDI Equality, Diversity and The Scottish Greens are committed to ensuring Inclusion equality, diversity and inclusion in all activities. The party also has an EDI officer who helps to ensure this is maintained and continuously improved. EF/E&F Events and Fundraising This is a committee or Working Group (see below) that helps to organise events and funding campaigns. The main party has a committee, but repressive groups may also have their own committees to work on internal projects. EGM Emergency General Meeting The EGM works the same as the AGM (see above), for internal voting however would only be used when the vote cannot wait until the next AGM. EGP European Green Party The European Green Party, sometimes referred to as European Greens, is the European political party that operates as a federation of political parties across Europe supporting green politics. FFC Finance and Fundraising The committee is responsible for generating Committee finances through fundraising and other projects for the party. FYEG Federation of Young European The Federation of Young European Greens is an Greens umbrella organisation that gathers young green movements and organisations across Europe. GEF Green European Foundation The Green European Foundation is a European-level political foundation whose mission is to foster greater involvement by citizens in Europen politics. GoC Greens of Colour This is a representative group within the main party for party members who are of African, Caribbean, Asian, Latin American and other ethnic descent in Scotland. For more information contact: [email protected] GPEW Green Party of England & This is the green party for the southern United Wales Kingdom countries of England and Wales. We can collaborate with them on various projects but are still separate parties. MSP Member of Scottish Parliament These are elected representatives for Scotland, they operate out of Holyrood (see above). PRD Policy Reference Document This document sets out the policies and values, which the Scottish Green Party believes are necessary to meet the increasingly huge challenges which face us in the transformation to a Green society. RG Rainbow Greens (LGBTQI+) This is a representative group within the main party for LGBTQI+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersexed) party members. For more information contact: [email protected] SGP Scottish Green Party That’s us, that’s the party that all this jargon is used for. SOC Standing Orders Committee This committee is responsible for maintaining and interpreting Party rules and procedures, and its interpretations bind all Party bodies and members unless overruled by a General Meeting. For more information contact: [email protected] SYG Scottish Young Greens This is a representative group within the main party for young people. Anyone below the age of 30, or anyone currently in full-time education. More information can be found by emailing: [email protected] or checking out their website: https://www.younggreens.scot/ TUG Trade Union Group the group for trade unionists, allies and all supporters of the labour movement in the Green Party of Scotland. WCO Welfare & Conduct Officer This is the elected officer who works to ensure the welfare and conduct of members of the Scottish Greens. WG Working Group A temporary committee for certain projects or campaigns, these are not elected positions and maybe long term or short term.
