Characterized as a possible “trade” edition, it was bound in illustrated card board covers. A comic book champBy David J. HoganMany creators of comic books from the Silver and Bronze Age have received their due, and now it's the turn of Marie Severin, one of comics' do-anything talents who thrived in the field for decades. Dewey Cassell's Marie Severin: The Mirthful Mistress of Comics rightfully suggests that Marie's gender is the least interesting facet of her life vis-a-vis her career in a boys'- club industry. Rather, via interviews with co-workers (including big brother John Severin) and Marie herself, the book makes clear that Marie's tickets to success have been her skill and versatility. She was a splendid (and very young) colorist at EC in the early 1950s. Later, during a long association with Marvel Comics, she worked in production, as a colorist, and as a sterling pencil artist on key franchises, including Dr. Strange, the Hulk, Sub-Mariner, and Kull.
