Economic Development Strategy Background The 2015-2019 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) is a document prepared for and through the US Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) Department of Commerce and Office of Planning and Development (OPD). The CEDS is paid for through Technical Assistance grant funding made available through the US Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA). The purpose of the CEDS is to develop a comprehensive economic planning document which considers the jurisdictions human, physical and natural assets towards an integrated economic plan for a five (5) year forward looking period. The CEDS document is contemplated through a collaborative effort between the public and private sectors, governed through a CEDS Commission which is intended to consider all aspects of the CNMI’s economic planning. CEDS Commission Mission: The CEDS will serve as a catalyst for positive and sustainable economic development in CNMI by driving market diversification, ensuring resilient infrastructure, and attaining an educated community through effective leadership, planning, community coordination, and partnership with all stakeholders. CEDS Commission Vision: CNMI will leverage its assets of cultural and natural resources to grow a diverse economy grounded

North Field was designed for an entire wing of B-29 Superfortresses, the 313th Bombardment Wing, with hardstands to park 265 B-29s.     Career transitions of professional athletes Review : Sociology and Philosophy A study on professional athlete career transition: an overview of the literature Keiko Jodai* and Haruo Nogawa* *Graduate School,School of Sport and Health Science, Juntendo University 1-1, Hiragagakuendai, Inzai, Chiba, 270-1695 Japan [email protected] [Received February 25, 2011 ; Accepted August 22, 2011] Since the 1990’s, there have been many research studies that focus on career transitions for professional athletes in Japan. The main reason for this is that during that period, amateur sports teams, such as soccer and basketball, were spun off from divisions of companies to become separate professional teams. Consequently, this changed forced how athletes view the transition to a second career because they can no longer count on being employed by the companies that had previously run teams as part of their corporate operations. Research studies primarily covered top athletes but did not distinguish between the amateur and professional athletes. In reviewing the assumptions and results of such previous research with respect to professional status, this study will present the basic themes of such research. For example, early research investigated the actual reasons why and how athletes decide to change career; whereas later research seek to study how athletes specifi cally deal with career changes. Finally, in order to determine the effectiveness of actual support programs, the authors of this study proposes that more thorough investigation is needed to scrutinize how the career transitions of ex-professional football players have changed over time by using a “longitudinal” analysis.     Chapter 8 The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth as a Political Space: Its Unity and Complexity* Satoshi Koyama Introduction The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (Rzeczpospolita) was one of the largest states in early modern Europe. In the second half of the sixteenth century, after the union of Lublin (1569), the Polish-Lithuanian state covered an area of 815,000 square kilometres. It attained its greatest extent (990,000 square kilometres) in the first half of the seventeenth century. On the European continent there were only two larger countries than Poland-Lithuania: the Grand Duchy of Moscow (c.5,400,000 square kilometres) and the European territories of the Ottoman Empire (840,000 square kilometres). Therefore the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was the largest country in Latin-Christian Europe in the early modern period (Wyczański 1973: 17–8). In this paper I discuss the internal diversity of the Commonwealth in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and consider how such a huge territorial complex was politically organised and integrated. * This paper is a part of the results of the research which is grant-aided by the ‘Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research’ program of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science in 2005–2007. - 137 - SATOSHI KOYAMA 1. A study was done testing the components of physical fitness (strength, flexibility, coordination, etc.) of a number of college athletes involved in various sports. When the totals were added up, gymnasts proved to be the most physically fit. Some of the physical attributes that you will find developing in your young gymnast will be: strength, flexibility, kinesthetic awareness, muscular control, muscular endurance, coordination, timing, explosive power, agility, running speed, balance, and grace.

Argued January 13, 2016—Decided June 9, 2016 Respondents Luis Sánchez Valle and Jaime Gómez Vázquez each sold a gun to an undercover police officer. Puerto Rican prosecutors indict­ ed them for illegally selling firearms in violation of the Puerto Rico Arms Act of 2000. While those charges were pending, federal grand juries also indicted them, based on the same transactions, for viola­ tions of analogous U. S. gun trafficking statutes. Both defendants pleaded guilty to the federal charges and moved to dismiss the pend­ ing Commonwealth charges on double jeopardy grounds. The trial court in each case dismissed the charges, rejecting prosecutors’ ar­ guments that Puerto Rico and the United States are separate sover­ eigns for double jeopardy purposes and so could bring successive prosecutions against each defendant. The Puerto Rico Court of Ap­ peals consolidated the cases and reversed. The Supreme Court of Puerto Rico granted review and held, in line with the trial court, that Puerto Rico’s gun sale prosecutions violated the Double Jeopardy Clause.

    Northern Mariana Islands HEALTH SITUATION (Commonwealth of the) The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands is one of five inhabited United States island territories. It comprises of four inhabited islands (Saipan, Tinian, Rota and Pagan) and 10 uninhabited ones. The population was 53 883 in 2010, with 90% of people living in the capital of Saipan. Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) were the leading causes of death in the Northern Mariana Islands from 2011 to 2014. Diseases of the circulatory system accounted for 252 deaths (33%), cancers accounted for 133 (18%), endocrine, nutritional and metabolic disease accounted for 54 (7%), and respiratory system diseases accounted for 52 (7%). Poverty is also a major determinant of health in the Northern Mariana Islands.
