he Apawamis Club was formed in Rye in 1890. When Apawamis was incorporated in 1891, it became the first men’s social club to be chartered by New TYork State. Laid out over typically rugged and hilly Westchester terrain, the Apawamis course is Founded: extremely tight, demanding accuracy off the tee as 1890 a first prerequisite for scoring well. But the real Course Opened: 1899 challenges at Apawamis are the small greens which Architects: are as fast and slick as those at Augusta National. The hole features a semi-blind drive to a slanting fairway, and a brook crossing in front of the two-tiered green.

Apawamis has hosted a number of national and regional golf championships over the years, including the 1978 and the 1911 U.S. Amateur, as well as being the host course for the Seniors annual championship. The club holds the record for the most times hosting an MGA Championship, with the total being nineteen.

After Tropical Storm Irene pushed back the first playing of the Senior Masters Tournament until 2012, of Fair- field opened its doors to golfers aged 65 and over to play in the first new MGA tournament since the Mid-Amateur started in 2007. Robert Howe of Winged Foot finished four strokes ahead of the field with a 1-over 71 in the inaugural playing of the event to be the first name etched into the Senior Masters trophy.
