About The Apawamis Club: Apawamis’ story demonstrates the richness of the club’s enduring legacy and the origin from which the founding of the Club was inspired dating back to the year 1890.
The origins of squash at Apawamis are historically significant as it can be said that Apawamis played a prominent role in the development of the game, then known as “squash tennis.” It was in 1904 that the first squash house at Apawamis, comprising of two courts was built. It is believed that this was only the third such facility in the country built on club grounds after Tuxedo and the New York Racquet Club. Several years later, with the popularity of this new sport on firm footing, the courts were moved to the area of our current location. Although there have been many renovations and conversions of court size, Apawamis has kept pace with the times and proudly boasts one of the finest squash programs in the country.
The Club’s support of the renowned athletic programs and the ongoing upgrades and renovations to the clubhouse and athletic facilities demonstrates the Apawamis membership’s appreciation of the club, for its history and traditions.

Position Summary: Job Title - Director of Junior Squash He or she will be the second highest ranking professional in the squash department at the Apawamis Club and the “heir apparent” to the Director of Apawamis Squash, Peter Briggs. This individual will be responsible for leading and directing all aspects of our junior squash programs. This includes introductory clinics to elite training programs. You will work closely with the General Manager, Director of Sqaush Peter Briggs, and the Racquets Chair of the Board to ensure that all our programming aligns with the objectives of the club and provides an exceptional experience for our members. There will be increased emphasis on junior tournament planning (Silver, Gold and JCT events). This will include on-court and off-court preparation. Key Responsibilities: • Provide private (individual and group) lessons to all ages and various playing levels • Weekend travel to junior tournaments/tournament coaching • Assist in the supervision and direction of proffesional staff • Event organization (club championships, team events, summer camps) • Financial understanding of running a department • Pro shop management • Creating a positive environment that will attract new players to the game • Collaborate with neighboring country clubs to enhance the membership experience • Be a role model for current and future Apawamis players
Applicant Requirements: • Proven track record as a top PSA player, a top club professional or top college player who enjoys developing junior players to the best of their ability • Established successful teaching and strong oral communication skills • Able to develop/coordinate beginner, advanced and elite level training programs • Experience in playing doubles • 4-year college degree • Passion for the sport
