We accommodated the guests in their cabins, set all the gear and made our way to Gili Islands. We picked up 2 of our guests in Gili Trawangan and after diving briefing we started our first dive. We started our first dive of our trip at Sea Fan Coral Garden. During this dive we found 2 cuttle fish, commensal shrimp, tiny crinoid crab and schooling of neon fusiliers. From place to place we saw nice big gorgonian sea fans. During the second part of the dive we stayed at shallow reef and spotted swimming moray eel. Visibility was reaching 15 m. and there was a mild current. Our chef prepared lunch lunch and moved to south of Gili Trawangan where we dove at Trawangan Slope. This time swell raised and we jumped away on 15 m. depth. At the very beginning we spotted a turtle and red mantis shrimp. At the second part of the dive we saw puffer fish, sweet lips fish and many bat fish.

It also covers two flesh-footed shearwater population estimates: Lady Alice Island and Motumahanga Island. During the 2018/19 season we monitored 247 and 264 study burrows on Ohinau and Lady Alice Island respectively. The breeding success on Ohinau Island was 62%, down from 68% in the previous season. Breeding success on Lady Alice Island remained consistently low at 52%. There was no significant difference in breeding success between the two islands. Burrowscope (control) burrows, had a higher measured breeding success on both islands, however, the difference was again not statistically significant. We were able to identify both partners in 81% of burrows on Ohinau Island and 95% of burrows on Lady Alice Island.

SCUBA Diving Training at Marion Military Institute SCUBA Tigers FAQ Document AY 2013-2014 The following information is provided to acquaint MMI cadets with opportunities in SCUBA training at the Institute. This is the second year for SCUBA lessons and open water certification at MMI. Last September the first group of MMI SCUBA Tigers started their training with Instructional Staff of Southern Skin Divers Supply (SSDS), MMI’s partner in SCUBA training and recreational diving. After four weeks of training at MMI facilities 21 Cadets earned their Scuba Schools International (SSI) Open- Water Certification during their check dives at Morrison Springs and St. Andrews Jetties, FL. After that, the newly certified divers went drift diving and swam with the Manatees (picture to the Left) in the Rainbow River and Crystal River, FL. Many took advantage of inshore wreck trips out of Panama City and then learned about the benefits of Enriched Air NITROX and harvested some Flounder in the Winter. Their progression led to diving several wrecks off the coast of Alabama and began the work of helping to eradicate the invasive lionfish population. The MMI Scuba Tigers made their final dives this Spring off the shores of Orange Beach, AL on a sunken Navy Tug followed by the air craft carrier, USS Oriskany (the “Mighty O”) which is the largest man-mad reef in the world. Do I need to be a strong swimmer to take scuba lessons? Not necessarily, but you do need to be comfortable in the water and have moderate – good swim skills. Safety always comes first in SCUBA and safe SCUBA is all about the equipment.

  • Introductory Deco Lessons
Some Introductory “Lessons” About Dissolved Gas Decompression Modeling Presented by Erik C. Baker, P.E. General discussion: First of all, I believe that before someone engages in the actual programming of a decompression model, they need to do quite a bit of research into the fundamentals behind that model. Usually this means the dissolved gas (Haldanian) model as implemented by Bühlmann and/or others. Unfortunately, the relevant information is not conveniently compiled or located in one handy reference. The books by Bühlmann have been the closest thing to an all-in-one reference, but the information is incomplete, especially if you want to program the model. Bühlmann's work has to be taken in the historical context from which it was derived. Bühlmann did not "invent" most of the concepts that he presents in his books. He took the work done by others in the field before him and refined the model (slightly). The major elements of the dissolved gas model were developed by John S. Haldane, Robert D. Workman (U.S. Navy), and Heinz R. Schreiner (American researcher). Bühlmann relied heavily on the work of Robert Workman and communicated frequently with Schreiner as a colleague in the late 60's and early 70's. Bill Hamilton was a co-worker of Schreiner's in the early years. Workman, Schreiner, and Bühlmann are deceased now. Bill Hamilton is still very active in the field and is probably one of the best ongoing sources for information on decompression topics. The key elements of the present day dissolved gas model, however, were laid down in a few research papers many years ago.
