  • Mose Davis Public Relations Information
Mose Davis Public Relations Information “My name is Mose…and you can call me Mose” – Mose Davis That quote from Mose Davis can be heard on Hamilton Bohannon’s hit record “Let’s Start the Dance”. The tune is a smoking-hot club classic. And the quote cuts through the clutter and camouflage of funk wannabes, to reveal a pure fact – Mose is Mose. Before Stevie Wonder, before Bernie Worrell, there was Mose Davis pushing the frontiers of funk with his use of the organ as the source of the bass line, during the late 1960’s. And if imitation is the highest form of flattery, then Mose Davis has been flattered by the best. And some of the biggest names in hip-hop have sampled a sip of Mose’s musical brew, including Snoop, Mary J. Blige and Queen Latifah. Classically trained at the Detroit Conservatory of Music, Mose Davis is an exceptional jazz artist and prominent fixture on the Atlanta music scene. Davis identifies jazz greats, Jimmy Smith and Ahmad Jamal among his musical influences. Davis performs with top acts across the country and internationally. Mose Davis has performed with Candi Staton, The Isley Brothers, Marlena Shaw, David Ruffin, Ray Parker, Jr., The Counts, Funkadelics and Carl Anderson. His festival appearances include The Atlanta Jazz Festival (with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra), The Macon Jazz Festival and the internationally renowned Spoleto Festival. And now comes the new CD, “Sunshine”. “It’s a mix of jazz – the rough and the smooth – blended with some Latin and rock influences,” Davis says.

Transcript: Song & Music in the Movement A Conversation with Candie Carawan, Charles Cobb, Bettie Mae Fikes, Worth Long, Charles Neblett, and Hollis Watkins, September 19 – 20, 2017. Tuesday, September 19, 2017 Song_2017.09.19_01TASCAM Charlie Cobb: [00:41] So the recorders are on and the levels are okay. Okay. This is a fairly simple process here and informal. What I want to get, as you all know, is conversation about music and the Movement. And what I'm going to do—I'm not giving elaborate introductions. I'm going to go around the table and name who's here for the record, for the recorded record. Beyond that, I will depend on each one of you in your first, in this first round of comments to introduce yourselves however you wish. To the extent that I feel it necessary, I will prod you if I feel you've left something out that I think is important, which is one of the prerogatives of the moderator. [Laughs] Other than that, it's pretty loose going around the table—and this will be the order in which we'll also speak—Chuck Neblett, Hollis Watkins, Worth Long, Candie Carawan, Bettie Mae Fikes. I could say things like, from Carbondale, Illinois and Mississippi and Worth Long: Atlanta. Cobb: Durham, North Carolina. Tennessee and Alabama, I'm not gonna do all of that. You all can give whatever geographical description of yourself within the context of discussing the music. What I do want in this first round is, since all of you are important voices in terms of music and culture in the Movement—to talk about how you made your way to the Freedom Singers and freedom singing.

  • SONGCRAFTERS' COLORING BOOK Interpreting Interpretation by Bill Pere
The concepts discussed in this article are a part of the comprehensive analysis of songwriting presented in the complete book "Songcrafters' Coloring Book: The Essential Guide to Effective and Successful Songwriting" , by Bill Pere. For additional information or to order a copy, visit http://www.songcrafterscoloringbook.com (More on this topic in the complete Songcrafters' Coloring Book) SONGCRAFTERS' COLORING BOOK Interpreting Interpretation by Bill Pere You hear it all the time at critique sessions, interviews, panels, or online: songwriters saying "I want to leave my songs open to interpretation" or "I want each person to get their own meaning from my songs", and in the same breath saying "I want to connect with people". In order to have any useful discussion, we have to understand what this really means. Consider three things: (a) Typically, a song represents something that comes from an important part of you that you want to share (b) If you say something in general conversation and someone completely misinterprets you, you’d rarely just let it go without trying at least once to clarify what you meant. (c) "I want to leave my meaning open to interpretation" is the equivalent of saying "It’s perfectly okay with me if someone imposes their own meaning on my words." If we accept these things as generally accurate (of course there are always exceptions), then a songwriter being "okay" with leaving the song 'open to interpretation' can only mean one of the following (and there is nothing "wrong" with any of these – it’s just important that you have your Eyes-Wide-Open when you make your choices) (a) the song isn’t saying anything truly important to you (b) you don’t really know what the song is saying (c) you’re not trying to communicate or connect, just express yourself (See the article on "Expression vs.

Only descendants in a direct line from John Terrell Kirby are shown and the arrangement shows all descendants of each of his children. The second section contains ancestral data as to the Bohannon, Haynie, Lipscomb, Posey, Terrell, and Wilkins families as provided by my grandmother, May Kirby Thomas. A Kirby Family Record – 3 Editor’s Note My grandfather (Terrell Marshall Sr.) spent many hours gathering data, corresponding with relatives, and compiling the genealogical information that his grandmother (hereinafter referred to as MKT) had accumulated over the years. My grandfather, a lawyer, was a very methodical person and my belief is that the information he has gathered about current generations (i.e. current in the 1920s to 1950s) is quite accurate. Some of the ancestry information is suspect (and I have tried to comment on that so as not to have the reader take away any false impressions as to its accuracy). This information may provide no new information to the reader, but I felt I owed it to my grandfather to put this information in the public domain. I have tried to add some dates to persons who may have died since he originally “completed” this information, but was not able to find the information (or the time) to do it for everyone.
