©Peter Lindbergh LE PREMIER FILM DOCUMENTAIRE SUR DAFT PUNK, L'ÉPOPÉE DU DUO LE PLUS SECRET DU MONDE, AVEC LA PARTICIPATION EXCEPTIONNELLE DE LEURS PROCHES COLLABORATEURS ET AMIS. -

Clubbing in Los Angeles Jonny Coleman Tackles the Multi-Farious Scene in One of America's Biggest Cities
Clubbing in Los Angeles Jonny Coleman tackles the multi-farious scene in one of America's biggest cities. Los Angeles has always been a capital of pop culture. Outside of rave, however, it's never had much of a reputation for its dance music culture. Until recently, that is. The efforts of local promoters have given rise to enormous EDM festivals, the Low End Theory-driven beat scene and thriving techno and house crews—and have led to the city finally becoming internationally recognized. Now, it seems, a place that houses four million people inside the city limits and 18 million in the greater Southland area, is finally representing itself on the world stage. True to its geography—a set of suburbs fronting as a megalopolis—Los Angeles doesn't have a dominant sound or theme. Instead, there are many scenes tugging for attention and battling over the few legitimate dance venues the city has to offer. It's enormously difficult to acquire a liquor license in LA, thanks in no small part to club-owning cowboys like Eddie Nash (of Wonderland murder fame), and those that do can't serve all that late anyway. Most nights last from 10 until 2 or 3 AM (a reality that often results in seeing your headlining DJ for two hours). It doesn't help that many of the historical clubs/bars in places like Hollywood and West Hollywood are a tough sell to fans of underground music, as the price points, degree of parking difficulty and douchebaggery quotient are all high. That means that many parties of note take place downtown or in other east side neighborhoods (if not a private estate). -

'Human After All'? Daft Punk E O Culto À Máquina
‘HUMAN AFTER ALL’? -

So let’s start with a band’s name. It is one of the splendid ironies of the music business, where brand and image are all important, that changing a band’s name is such a di¤cult process. According to a 1993 interview with Select magazine,1 grunge-light indie act e Lemonheads needed a legal document to mark their transition from “Lemonheads” to “e Lemonheads”, a change so minute it gets lost in punctuation. At the same time, the actual meaning of a band’s name – however outlandish – tends to be forgotten. No one considers how ridiculous the words “Arctic Monkeys” are when put together; we immediately think of the internationally famous, festival-topping band, their name free from other, more literal, associations. Similarly, Daft Punk are just Daft Punk. You may know how their name came about – from a Melody Maker review of their brief Daft Punk precursor band, Darlin’, that dismissed them as “daft punky thrash” – but you probably don’t think too much about it. -

Understanding Artist Development: How Do Producers Support the Development of Artists Through the Production Process?
Understanding Artist Development: How Do Producers Support the Development of Artists through the Production Process? Jacob Laube BMus, Grad Dip Ed Creative Industries Faculty Queensland University of Technology Submitted in fulfilment of the requirements of the degree of Master of Fine Arts (Research) 2017 Abstract This study seeks to identify how an artist develops through the production process using practice-led and ethnographic methods. I chose to explore artist development as it combines elements of both music and education, my two areas of study and professional experience. Furthermore, there is limited academic literature on artist development and the various aspects that contribute to it through the production process. As such, my research in the history and practice of artist development provides a broad platform for further study in this area. I based this study upon my creation of two separate EP recordings featuring two different artists who vary in age, ensemble size, and levels of recording experience. By situating myself in the project as a record producer, I was able to identify key elements in the emergent themes that relate to artists’ development through the production process. The results of a thematic analysis suggested four key themes: expectation, collaboration, relationship, and experience. The skills, knowledge, and experimentation that were apparent in the studio were categorised according to these themes, which detail how each artist developed through the production process. These results were contrasted with the artists’ experience of the production process, outlining broad notions of development through skills, knowledge, collaboration, and experimentation in the studio. These broad conclusions provide a basis for further study, possibly involving an increased sample size and use of semi-structured interviews alongside questionnaires in order to capture more comprehensive data on artist development.
