Art Club Hosts Manicures to Fund

By: Maya Mills Orlando Trip

The Secondary School Art Club trekked to Orlando this fall to attend animation conferences. They raised money by hosting a manicure party to help fund their trip. The trip was a success and helped many stu- dents delve deeper into their passion for art. Adrian said, “I learned how the artists are able to create cartoons for movies and T.V. settings. This benefited me by helping me create movie events. My favorite part were the trips as in Mount Everest, Space Mountain and rocking rollercoaster.”

Aspiring Writers Walk Among Us

“Human Beans of Chicago” “False Love” By: Jasmine Gamboa By: Feliz DeGuzman

And sometimes you realize They ask me where I’m from I say Chicago The whole thing was a dream Their eyes grow wide and as they glow they ask, “Like Oprah?” A simple dream imagined I smirk An alternate life, a fantasy

Like the houses we grew up in on the forgotten streets all the way And you see down south That's what happened to me. Its name now a number because maybe no one could afford it I imagine him to be mine Out hands clasped together They ask me what I love: I say the seasons Because winter, spring, summer, and fall can all happen in one The imagery of the perfect couple week At the perfect time Flashing back and forth But no, that is not why we are the Windy City From his world to mine And just as the seasons differ, as do the people Such a perfect love Because the whispers on the streets are not spoken the same That can not be defined tongue And alas, the dreams Have now taken over We are free to be who we are and maybe that’s why they call us Intoxicated by false love crooked The heart, no longer sober Because their hands spend more time in cuffs than in the arms of the ones they love So I dream, and I dream Because the Deuces threw up peace signs as a way of vengeance And I fall to abyss And the Kings made crowns to give themselves honor Escaping the world But we are raised not to live in fear That I'll never miss

And illusion filled dream Because from the ashes this city grew again Oh, the smiles so real Because we defy logic by reversing the flow of rivers And the cuddles so soft Because I called human-beings human beans at the age of 4 Like the heart had been healed And now what we are known for is the giant mirror of ourselves with our city As I slipped into reality Oh, I fought back so hard That lies in what we call Millennium "I'm not leaving!" I screamed But I'm already too far. And as big as this city may seem I will tell you I know everyone Because we are one and one are we And now I wait, and I wait For the heartbreak to end And as cliché and that all sounds it’s true. Wait for my dreams to come back But I reply “Yes,” Until true love descends. “Like Oprah”
