That Judith Owen’s new album Ebb & Flow evokes the spirit of the halcyon days of the great 1970s troubadours is neither surprising nor is it accidental. In a set of potent songs about love and loss, pain and joy, dreams and despair, the Welsh singer- fearlessly explores the duality of the human condition – and to do justice to the songs she turned to the legendary musicians who created the seventies troubadour sound. Between them core band of drummer , bassist Lee Sklar and guitarist played on many of the landmark albums from the era, including Carole King’s Tapestry, James Taylor’s Sweet Baby James, Joni Mitchell’s Blue, Jackson Browne’s Running On Empty and countless others, and were recently featured in an article in Rolling Stone magazine celebrating their unsung contribution to musical history.

“The kind of music I write is so influenced by that sound and period that I wanted to go direct to the source,” Owen explains. “When I plucked up the courage to ask them to play on the record, I was amazed they said ‘yes’. But working with them was hand in glove because when I write songs, I’m hearing a sound in my head – and they knew the sound because they originated and defined it. In some ways, the record is almost a love letter to those guys and the classic sound they invented.” The songs on Ebb & Flow touch on the deepest emotions of Owen’s own storied life with an unswerving honesty. But although her songs are highly personal, the emotions are universal. They can be dark; and yet they are also full of wonder, a celebration of the resourcefulness of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

The combination of intimate songs and intuitive ensemble playing has resulted felicitously in the most self-assured and confident album of Owen’s career to date. After emigrating to America in 1993, Ebb & Flow is Judith Owen’s eighth album since her 1996 debut Emotions On A Postcard. Married to the American actor and humorist , in addition to her acclaimed solo work she has for many years been Richard Thompson’s female foil of choice. Both have appeared on each other’s albums and Owen played a leading collaborative part in Thompson’s projects 1000 Years Of and . She also co-created “Losing It” with Ruby Wax, a funny yet devastatingly honest two-woman show chronicling descent into mental illness that was a box-office hit in the West End in 2011.

But it is her role as an unflinching singer-songwriter baring her soul that remains at the core of Owen’s creativity and Ebb & Flow, she says, feels like a homecoming. “It’s the sound I heard as a kid and which made me light up. I’ve been on a journey to getting well with music as my best friend. There will still be struggles because that never stops. But I’ve ended up with the sound that first inspired me. Rubicon Cross, features award winning vocalist CJ Snare (from multi‐Platinum selling, world renowned band, Firehouse) and guitar virtuoso Chris Green (of Pride/Furyon) The advent of the band RUBICON CROSS is rooted in the connection formed between two prolific musicians facing adverse conditions together. The friendship between vocalist CJ Snare and guitarist Chris Green is as solid as the bond that they share as songwriting collaborators and that bond is the creative nucleus for this recording. The two first met backstage while sharing the same stage at a in Madrid. From relationship break‐ups to standing next to each other as best men at each other’s weddings, they have traveled the bumpy road of life as best friends. CJ is godfather to Chris’ toddler son and for over a decade they have experienced heartaches, hangovers and even transcontinental relocations together. With this kind of solidarity, it was inevitable that they would become bandmates.

For the last two decades, both CJ and Chris have been making a bountiful living practicing their craft. Their career achievements would be the envy of any professional : Award winning vocalist, CJ Snare, a native of Tampa, Florida is a founding member, primary songwriter and lead vocalist for the supremely successful, multi‐Platinum‐selling hard rock outfit, Firehouse. Highly respected London‐born guitar virtuoso Chris Green is a founding member of both internationally known metal bands Pride and Furyon. What initially began as a solo project for CJ soon became a collaborative effort between two like‐minded craftsmen. And, as all creative people will attest, the creative process often dictates policy‐‐as opposed to the other way around. Immediately upon the completion of the first song they wrote together, “Moving On,” they knew that it was going to be something completely new and different for them both. Some projects just have to be made. And for this one, they knew that they would need to do it outside of their other pursuits. Together they formed RUBICON CROSS. Only Crime is a combination of 5 veterans of the punk/hardcore scene who have pooled their collective experience to make a truly refreshing musical statement. In September 2013, Melissa became the first female instrumentalist and first South American ever to win the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition. Key Points:

Heinz Holliger’s lifelong fascination with the music of Robert Schumann finds further expression on this newest release: on “Aschenmusik”, a new interpretation of the Swiss oboist‐composer’s “Romancendres” is framed by Schumann’s own works. “Romancendres” refers to the lost “Cello Romances” which Clara Schumann burned on Brahms’s advice, an act of destruction which outraged Holliger and fuelled the composition of this “music from the ashes” in 2003. It’s a portrait of Schumann, and its central movements contain numerous quotations and messages. “Romancendres” is prefaced by Schuman’s “Romances” for oboe and piano, masterpieces which have been part of Holliger’s repertoire for 60 years, and by the rarely‐played “Studies in Canon Form” which find Holliger on the oboe d’amore. The album closes with Schumann’s first sonata for violin and piano, with cello substituting for violin. Strong performances by Holliger himself and by Anita Leuzinger, solo cellist from the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, and by Austrian pianist Anton Kernjak make this album another important addition to Heinz Holliger’s ECM discography. “Aschenmusik” is issued in the wake of Holliger’s 75th birthday. John Dowland’s “Lachrimae Pavans” is considered one of the greatest works in the canon of English chamber music. Based upon his famous song “Flow My Teares”, the seven pavans – “Seaven Teares”, as Dowland called them – present an extraordinary exploration of the contrapuntal and harmonic possibilities offered by the theme. Forever Young features melodically inventive, harmonically sophisticated and rhythmically alert jazz, composed by Norwegian‐American guitarist Jacob Young and played by a spirited team of contemporaries. Young and saxophonist Trygve Seim are friends since school days, and have been heard on the Norwegian jazz scene in numerous combinations and contexts over the years. They are joined on this album by the Polish pianist, bassist and drummer widely known as the Marcin Wasilewski Trio, a group with its own 20 years playing history. This recording marks Jacob Young’s first alliance with the Poles, although Trygve Seim has worked extensively with Wasilewski and bassist Slawomir Kurkiewicz while all three were members of Manu Katché’s touring band.
