3 Dr. Lee Nelson is Director of the Wartburg Choir Ritterchor/Zahn Chair in Choral Dr. Lee Nelson is the Patricia R. Zahn Chair in Choral Conducting and director of choral activities at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Nelson was recently honored with the John O. Chellevold Award for Excellence in Teaching and Professional Service. He conducts the Wartburg Choir  and Ritterchor and teaches beginning and advanced conducting and literature at Wartburg. He also serves as the artistic director of Christmas with Wartburg, which was nominated for a regional Emmy in 2012. Nelson made his conducting debut at in 2011 and was invited to return in 2012 and 2014 to conduct the National Festival . His national and international tours have earned overwhelmingly positive reviews. On the most recent tour of , , Slovakia, Austria, Italy, , and Turkey, critics lauded Nelson’s innovative programming and the choir’s “rich and colorful” choral tone. Internationally renowned Morten Lauridsen praised Nelson and the Wartburg Choir’s of “O Magnum Mysterium” stating: “It was in the top echelon of any performance of that piece by any choir that I have ever heard.” A highly sought-after conductor, clinician and adjudicator, Nelson has directed all state and honor throughout the and Canada, including Colorado, New York, Alaska, Mississippi, Nevada, Indiana, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, Iowa, , and Manitoba, Canada.In March of 2014, Nelson conducted the Wartburg Choir at the North Central American Choral Director’s Association conference. In December 2011, Nelson and the Wartburg Choir were invited to perform at the White House Holiday Concert Series. While in , D.C., the choir also performed at the Washington National Cathedral for a worldwide simulcast of the Bethlehem Prayer Service. Nelson was a featured conductor at the 2012 North Central ACDA conference, where he conducted ’ Holocaust To Be Certain of the Dawn with more than 360 from six states. A of contemporary music, Nelson regularly commissions and performs new works of choral literature. He has helped to launch careers of promising young and promotes music by established composers in his choral series. ECS Publishing distributes the Lee Nelson Choral Series internationally. Prior to his appointment at Wartburg College, Nelson served on the faculty at St. Cloud State University, where he received the SCSU Professional Achievement Award in 2008. Earlier in his career, Nelson received the Outstanding Young Choral Conductor of the Year, awarded by the Minnesota American Choral Directors Association, and won the 2005 National ACDA Conducting Competition in Los Angeles, Calif. Nelson recently retired as and conductor of the Metropolitan , a 100-voice community choir based in the Cedar Valley. Nelson has led the ensemble in of choral/orchestral masterworks by , Wolfgang Mozart, Leonard Bernstein, , , , Johannes Brahms, Gabriel Faure, Franz Joseph Hayden, and Carl Orff. Dr. Nelson earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. He has done graduate work at Westminster Choir College and is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Arizona, where he earned his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees.

David Hattner is , Musical Director, Philharmonic Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Camerata PYP Conductor David Hattner is the fifth Musical Director of the Portland Philharmonic Association. Mr. Hattner was selected from a pool of 112 candidates  by a search committee comprised of board members, alumni, community representatives, musicians, and teachers. He received positive reviews from both audiences and critics alike after his debut with PYP in November 2008. “The Portland Youth Philharmonic roared like a Maserati on Saturday in its first concert under music director David Hattner. The route was challenging, the execution distinguished and the ride delightful,” wrote David Stabler for The Oregonian. “David is ideal for PYP. He creates the musical and social environment in which young musicians can and want to do their best,” said Murry Sidlin, former Resident Conductor of the Symphony, who worked with Mr. Hattner at the Aspen Music Festival and the Cascade Festival of Music. “He is a brilliant clarinetist, has very high artistic vision, and invites young musicians to join him at that level. He worked ferociously to become the excellent conductor he is. Nobody handed him anything. He worked for it and succeeded. PYP is tremendously fortunate to have persuaded David to join them.” David Hattner’s conducting credits include the Eugene Symphony Orchestra, Oklahoma Chamber Ensemble, the Garden State Philharmonic Orchestra, Camerata Atlantica, and multi-media work with silent film in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, and Sao Paulo, Brazil. “David Hattner conducted a calmly authoritative performance…” wrote Anthony Tommasini in , reviewing a performance of Richard Einhorn’s Voices of Light. He has also guest conducted the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Sospeso, International Contemporary Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and the Massapequa Philharmonic Orchestra. Mr. Hattner received a Bachelor of Music degree with honors from , where he was a student of Robert Marcellus. He has participated in the American Academy of Conducting at Aspen three times, where he studied with David Zinman and Murry Sidlin. He has also held Principal Clarinet positions with Princeton Symphony Orchestra, Cascade Music Festival Orchestra, Theater, and Key West Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. Bobby R. Francis is a Professor and Director of Bands at Texas Christian University. Mr. Francis serves as Conductor of the TCU Wind Symphony, teaches graduate and undergraduate conducting, and is responsible for the supervision of all aspects of the TCU Band and Wind Conducting programs. Mr. Francis is an elected member of the American Association. Mr.  Francis is a former President of the CBDNA Southwest Region and is currently the President of the Big 12 Band Directors Association. His former directors include Norman White, Tom Neugent and James Keene. Guest conducting appearances include U.S. Army Band – “The Pershing’s Own,” Frost School of Music – University of Miami Wind Symphony, The U.S. Coast Guard Band, the Lone Star Youth Wind Orchestra among others. Mr. Francis’ ensembles have been invited to performed at many national, regional, and state conferences. The TCU Wind Symphony has performed with guest artists including the American Brass , Patrick Sheridan, Brian Bowman, Allen Vizzutti, Jon Lewis, Joe Eckert, Gary Whitman, Jesus Castro-Balbi, Brian West, Shauna Thompson, Markus Theinert and Boston Brass. The group has collaborated with many composers including John Mackey, Frank Ticheli, , Michael Colgrass, James Syler, James Stephenson, Eric Ewazen, Michael Daugherty, and . The TCU Wind Symphony has accepted an invitation to perform at the 2018 Convention of The American Bandmasters Association annual convention with guest artists The “Boston Brass”. He has conducted in the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center (Dallas), Performance Hall (Fort Worth), Royal College of Music (London, Lila Cockrell Theater (San Antonio), University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), Normandy Beach (Francis), Pearl Harbor (Hawaii) and several locations in Italy, France, Austria, and Germany. He resides in Colleyville with his wife, Teresa, who is a middle director and performance artist. They have two daughters: 4 Tamysn, 19 a Sophomore French Horn player at TCU and Breelyn, 12, who plays and percussion and is in the 6th grade.
