From the Farmer Market Federation “It is now official! New York is adopting the CDC’x guideline on masks. Those who are vaccinated no longer are required to wear a mask, indoors or outdoors. Those who are NOT vaccinated must continue to wear masks in public, but markets are NOT required to request proof of vaccinations. We do not have to be Vaccination Police! Other guidelines may be dropped soon. But as of this moment, all other guidelines are still in place. Keep activities limited to what will not cause people to congregate, i.e. concerts, and other events.” From the Cazenovia Market Manager, Lacey Cashman to the vendors This does not change spacing requirements, sampling, etc as of yet. You might want to wear a mask to make your customers feel more confortable but they are no longer man- datory, and you should not be asking people for proof. I will keep you posted as things are revised.

2 Spotlight on our a few of the Summer Farmers Market Participants

Clean Slate Farm is our little micro-farm where we currently live on and create from in Apulia, NY (in the Southern Hills of Onondaga County). From there we sell flavored balsamic vinegars, curated olive oils, specialized blended spices, our own honey, and an expanding skin care line made from the bees wax from our apiary. We have been selling these products for about 4 years in approximately 25 gourmet retail stores within a 100 mile radius of , several Farmers Markets, and local events. We also have an online store and ship nationwide. So, what possesses two retirees to begin a second or really, fourth or fifth career out here in this beautiful area of the world? In their past lives, Dave and Joanne led an internationally-known graphic design and ad agency specialized in promoting gourmet foods such as artisanal cheeses. After 19 years in the advertising world, the two took on different careers: Joanne, communications and management; and Dave, graduation from the Culinary Institute of America. Dave used the farm to start his first crop of garlic plants. It didn’t take long for him to become a “garlic expert” for the garlic balsamic vinegar; the fig, ginger (both made from fresh ingredients), and the maple (made from the award-winning local, Dutch Hill Maple syrup), to be created. Not satisfied with just handmade gourmet vinegars alone, Dave began to seek out high-quality ol- ive oils to offer made with the same care as our balsamic vinegars. After a year of research, he discovered a small olive vineyard on the West Coast with the same values as Clean Slate Farm. Thus, the olive oils joined the family. We private label these oils and offer rosemary, basil, lemon, and of course, garlic. In the case of the basil, the basil leaves are crushed with the olives to create a fresh taste and a minimum of ingre- dients. As with any good chef, Dave is always thing of new ways to enjoy the food he prepares for our friends and families. One of the winners in Matson Hill Spice Blend. Use it on a grilled steak, fresh scrambled eggs, or chicken strips before you throw them in the air fryer. From a Popcorn seasoning (Nooch) to our newest product—a sweet sprinkle called CinnaMaple, Clean Slate Farm is building a brand, thoughtfully and with great care. And let’s not forget our honey bees and their unique, delicious honey. About 6 years ago, we established our small apiary. We have learned so much every year about bee husbandry and have a loyal following for their/our honey. We also use the bees wax each year to create our healing, natural Skin Care (Mabel’s Mir- acle Hand Cream) and (Don’t Gimme No Lip) Line. Going into our 12th year of discovery on our small patch of land, we are excited to offer a few new items and at the same time, keep it small. It’s a clean slate for us as partners and we want to be a fun and deli- cious journey, year after year!

See you at the Cazenovia Farmers’ Market every Saturday 9 to 2 p.m. Dave and Joanne Lenweaver www.cleanslatefarm.com E-mail: [email protected] Phone: 315-727-9620

We are still providing necessary rides. What does that mean during this time?  CRIS CAT (Cazenovia Area Transportation) provides medical transportation to seniors 55+ that live in Cazenovia, Nelson and Fenner.  Medical transportation can be to an eye doctor, dentist, podiatrist, General Practitioner....  We are not transporting any senior that has symptoms of COVID  You can check out the schedule for who needs a ride and decide if you can help that day for about 2 hours  You are not required to volunteer  You can volunteer every day, every other week or just once in a while  We do not bother you to volunteer but rather put it out to the group until filled  CRIS provides you with extra face masks, hand sanitizer and car sanitizer  We are asking our passengers to sit in the back seat of your car The scheduler will ask all the COVID related questions to the passengers so you do not need to worry about it

Why do we need so much help NOW?  Well- most of our volunteer drivers are seniors themselves and are at a higher risk. These seniors have helped the community by providing all of their medical transportation. We are down to a drastical- ly low number of volunteers at this time and are expecting to have an increase in missed appointments very soon.  An application and screening process is required to be a volunteer because we care about our pas- sengers. Each driver is being provided extra face masks and hand sanitizer. Please reach out today CRIS CAT phone line 315-655-0612

16 Roger’s Notes

Now that you've re-read “Brave New World” (and “1984” and “Animal Farm”) you know that marijuana may be the new 'soma' which was used by the elites to control the populace. Legalizing it is only a scheme to collect more taxes and make big government bigger. Cazenovia of course will Opt Out and maintain its high ethic. I have been suggesting to listeners to our “real jazz” program since 2006 to re-read these very prescient novels written 70 or 80 years ago. I don't join various groups around here is because I usually disagree with so-called 'conventional wisdom' and wish to remain an independent consultant. ('wisdom' is a misnomer if I ever heard one). Again, please listen to Charlotte Thomson Iserbyt on you tube and read some of her works, including “The Deliberate Dumbing-Down of America”. Most of the corporate so called 'jazz' you run into on college radio, and pay for from some service like Sirius is pretty bad. Syracuse's, New Orleans', and Cazenovia's Jack Maheu (The General) said there were only two kinds of jazz – good and bad. Sirius calls Bop guys 'real jazz'. Don't be fooled. I met many of the Bop guys through David X. Young and had nice times but I don't air any of them, simply because most people don't like Bop (Bop players play for themselves). Our radio program is geared to all of CNY , with an emphasis on Caz. All we play is real jazz. I theorize that people are driven to Country & Western because the contemporary pop and rock is so bad – with 4 letter words etc.. However, as a cellist friend says: “If you could play C&W backwards you would get your girl back, get your dog back, get your house back, wife, job, friends, sobriety, etc. etc., back. It is basically downer music, and the people who really understand what is now happening out there know that to demoralize people is a key part of taking them over. As said before about why all the bad jazz comes from colleges because of Payola (again check NY AG/Payola – 2006), it also comes from things like Sirius who put Bop players in the category of 'real jazz' while they seem to ignore all the 40 or 50 styles of jazz that happened before Bop. I've talked about control of what you hear on the radio since I got on the civilian airwaves at Cazenovia College 15 years ago. (I was on the air in the Army doing Morse Code & Voice long ago) The big tech companies are fighting like mad to keep radio out of cars, where 90% of radio listening occurs. If that were to occur, then you would have 6 or 8 big tech companies shaping how you think. Big Tech has more money than the entire broadcasting industry. (Remember the Golden Rule – he has the gold makes the rule.) We get nice emails and one listener put on “Roger's List” on facebook the kind of words we get. He said: “Best show on the radio.”Fun Music”best two hours of music I hear all week”. Support Cazenovia's “captive” radio program. No other town has one that reaches so far. Thanks.
