CHITRA NAIK Recipient of the Award for Development and Welfare of Women and Children - 2002 Born: June 15, 1918 Educational Qualification: Bachelor of Arts (Hons.), Bachelor of Education, Doctor of Philosophy, Post- Doctoral Studies at Columbia University, New York. Ever since her academic days Dr. Chitra Naik has shown a commitment to the upliftment of women and children and also in Special Education Services required for delinquent and mentally handicapped children. She joined the Rural Institute (Shri Mouni Vidyapeeth) in the backward Bhudangad Taluka of Kolhapur District in Maharashtra. In 90 villages, she set up rural women informal co-operatives, Mahila Mandal and Balwadi, a Rural Health Clinic and social educational camps in Harijan (Dalit) locations. After her retirement, she took over as Director of Indian Institute of Education which was established to interlink education with development through field-level action and research. During this period, she organised 263 non formal education centres conducted in 110 villages of the drought prone areas of Pune district. 3237 girls were benefited. Similarly, in 70 villages in Shirur and Haveli talukas of Pune district, she established centres for training for women in home nursing, first aid, child and maternal health, home remedies, nutrition, sanitation, clean drinking water and overcoming superstitious health practices. This project covered nearly 2000 women learners, 800 youths and 2000 children. Dr. Naik has provided with the use of science and technology employment opportunities to a large number of household women in making fuel briquettes, tree plantation, provision of soak-pits, nutrition, nursing, analysis and treatment of mental ailments of women like depression, possession by spirits, hysteria and so on.

After graduating from St. Stephen‟s College, Delhi, he joined the Indian Civil Services in 1968 and served in Tamil Nadu till 1985. He served as Secretary to the Vice-President of India (1985-1987) and Joint Secretary to the President of India (1987-1992). Gopalkrishna Gandhi took voluntary retirement from the IAS in 1992. He set up the Nehru Centre in London for Indo-British collaboration in cultural, literary and academic fields and was its Director(1992-1996). He served as High Commissioner of India to South Africa and Lesotho (1996), Secretary to President of India (1997-2000), High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka (2000), Ambassador of India to Norway and Iceland (2002), and Governor of West Bengal (2004- 2009). He was given the additional charge of the Governor of Bihar for a few months in 2006. Gopalkrishna Gandhi was Chairman of the Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla and Kalakshetra Foundation, Chennai (2011-2014). He received the Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Award of the University of Mysore in 2016, the Lal Bahadur Shastri Award in 2016 and the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Award in 2018. He received honorary degrees from the University of Natal, South Africa (1999), University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka (2001), University of North Orissa, India (2012),and University of Calcutta, India (2019).

(Credit Based Semester and Grading System with effect from the academic year 2011-2012) R.8453 ATKT (allowed to keep term) A student shall be allowed to keep term per Semester II irrespective of number of heads of failure of the Semester 1, the result of Semester II shall be kept in abeyance until the student passes each of the courses in Semester I and Semester II. A candidate who has kept 2 semesters of the B.Ed. Degree Examination but who has either not appeared for Part A or failed in Part A, will be permitted at his option to carry forward the grade obtained in ‘Part B’ to six subsequent semester examinations. The candidate will appear only for the paper/s he/she has failed. Candidates exercising this option shall be eligible for the grade. A candidate who has passed in ‘Part A’ but fails in ‘ Part B’ will be permitted at his option to carry forward the marks obtained in ‘Part A’ to six subsequent semester examinations The examination of part A (Theory – External Assessment) will be semester end examination whereas part B (Practicum – Internal Assessment) will be submitted after two consecutive semesters attended by student enrolled for the programme.
